Yummy
I just made something pretty darned good! Cut a cabbage head into quarters. Place a quarter on foil. Spread 1 tsp bacon grease on cabbage. Wrap 3 sides of cabbage tight with foil. Pour 1 tbsp picante sauce and 2 tbsp water in open corner and then close last corner tightly. Bake for 1 hr at 350. 87 calories in ******.

I checked on ************ and it came to 124 calories. Not a huge difference, but significant on a DD. I sure wish all these sites would agree!

I just had some of that already shredded cabbage, some cooked cold chicken I made from home and for the dressing some rice vinegar and a small amount of olive oil with red pepper flakes thrown in. It was really good and tangy!! I thought it would be a good cold type of salad, kind of like that top ramen noodle/cabbage salad that probably has way more calories! It was filling too! Cabbage is pretty versatile!!

Kierasmom....I checked again and ****** still said 87 cal...I did use the small head of cabbage option....it was very small...out of my garden. You can also do this with just chicken broth....not use the bacon grease to lower numbers. It's still quite good!

It sounds wonderful. I love cooked cabbage, and the bacon grease sounds divine with it!
I didn't mean to sound like I didn't believe your numbers. It's just frustrating how they all say something different. I tend to weigh everything, but sometimes you just want to choose the "1/4 head" option in your calorie counter and trust it. ![]() |

Don't worry....I didn't think you didn't believe my numbers! You could probably use 1/2 tsp grease....when I dumped my cabbage into a bowl to eat there was grease at the bottom of my bowl....the cabbage was very flavorful, so I think cutting it back would still be plenty. I really really liked it baked/steamed in the foil packet. Just a different consistency. I like my cabbage to be NOT mushy or overcooked...still somewhat crispy and not too limp lol. It was perfect cooked that way for one hour!
