Stupid Question

Ok, so this isn't JUDDD related per se, but it's 3am and I can't sleep! I'm so agitated that I feel like doing laps around the neighborhood. Yes, this says A LOT as I don't think I have an athletic bone in my body!

So here's my stupid question.

Why does EVERYONE say that carbs such as white rice, potatoes, etc are just as bad as sugar?!? Eating potatoes doesn't make me want to do laps around the neighborhood at 3am!! And before you say that it must be that I had a lot of sugar...well, not really. One piece of pie?...Sometimes I eat carbs with my carbs...a side of one type of potato with another type of potato. And other carby foods, too. Hmmm....not all carbs make me feel the same.

After tonight, you can keep your sugar, but please leave me some potatoes! Or is the secret to eat so much sugar that you go into a sugar coma? Lol

I hate those wakeful nights. I fear mine are not food induced but wine may play its part. As a rule though, I sleep much better on JUDDD.

Hope you get some rest.

WOE: JUDDD/PHD, LC now that my BG is getting weird
Start Date: JUDDD 1/1/12 + LCHF 12/1/13 (controlling diabetes)
From a broken-carb-mechanism, this could escalate to diabetes, POV starchy carbs (rice, potatoes, bread, sugar) all have the same effect on the body: flood of blood glucose, flood of insulin, cells unable to store the excess, sugar rush, sugar crash-and-burn.

Many people find over time that the broken part of the process improves. Insulin receptors on cells seem to get healthier and able to store the excess glucose until it is burned as fuel.

I did LC at first because it was very, very clear my carb processing plant was broken. A few weeks after I started JUDDD, I tried potatoes - no sugar rush/crash, bread - sugar rush/crash big time. Waited two more weeks and tried bread again - no rush/crash.

I guess it depends on the volume in the flood of blood glucose? These days I still have to really think about stopping when I eat dessert...but no rush/crash.

YOU stay away from sweets for awhile as you plan. Then in weeks or months if you want to, test it again. Just, for heaven's sake, test early enough that if you still get a rush it does not keep you up all night!!!

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

This happens to me on DD nights sometimes. I feel so full of energy and cant sleep a wink. It comes and goes but its always on the night of a DD, not an UD for some reason. If i have a really really good DD and havent eaten much at all and feel skinnier it happens. If that makes any sense at all...lol last night was one of those nights. I couldnt sleep at all and ended up getting up at 4am and having some hot chocolate and reading on my Kindle then finally fell asleep on the sofa. You would think i would be really tired after these nights too but im usually not at all. I got up after sleeping an hour or so on the couch and lifted weights, then made breakfast, mcdys for the SO and DS and made myself a big almond meal and flax muffin with cottage cheese on the side. Then i went for a jog! I feel great today and the scale was down 2 lbs, I just knew it was gonna more with the way i felt but ill take it.

I was a lousy sleeper for years and years. If it was related to diet, I could never pinpoint what was causing it.

After starting JUDDD I had a little bit of the *too much energy and exuberance of spirit to sleep well* occasionally, but these days I sleep like a baby. I fall asleep quickly and easily and remain asleep until morning.
