Making the move tommorrow

Hello. You all have convinced me. I did Atkins in2003and lost 50+ lbs, but then over the next 3years, I maintained , gaining only10 back. Then in2006 I went thru a divorce and found new love in2007. I gained it all back and then some. So, I have tried to redraft many times, only to be frustrated with the progress. It seemed to just fall off in2003, but now, such difficulty losing1to 2 lbs in a wk, many time going weeks bouncing the same 5 lbs I started back this time in January, the first day of 2012 at 216, getting down to only 203 last week, but gained back to 208 this week. I didn't do anything different. No cheating. So, I got discouraged and I ate what I wanted this weekend. I'm sure I am up to 211 by now with all the immediate water weight you gain with cheating on lc. I am also training to do a half marathon in July, so I am running a lot. I average about 12 to 16 miles a week. Maybe more if I join a group run. Still, nothing. The scale didn't budge. Honestly, I'm pissed. I'm so mad! I hate that my dh lost 85 lbs doing lc and maintained in. I hate that he knows all the answers and tries to tell me why I'm not losing. The truth is, I've followed plan, and it's not working. I've done ww and got down to 195 only for me to get sick of it and quit. I know my body responds to low fat/low cal, but I like the benefits of lc. So, I have visited this site. Read up on juddd and here I go. Tomorrow is 500 calories for my dd. I hope this works, I'm at the point of trying every diet pill on the market, and I know that isn't healthy. I'm just done. I'm sick of being sick of. Being fat.

Welcome to the group and the JUDDD woe! Keep us up to date on how things go for you. It may take a couple/few weeks for JUDDD to kick in but many who have stalled on lc seem to pick back up on this plan.

It can take up to 4 weeks to kick in so be prepared to ignore what the scale does for a while. Be sure to measure! Fat was melting off me before the scale showed anything useful. Make sure to check out Down Days recipes ONLY if you haven't already. There are lots of DD meals to choose from.

from another newbie-- I'm on DD #5 tomorrow, and it's great. I did as all the experienced folks here recommended, and I took measurements, and have avoided the scale.

there's tons of great people here to ask questions to, and lots of recipes and good ideas and advice-- you've come to the right place!

and btw, minus the jogging we're sharing a similar experience-- I too started LC in 2003, lost successfully at first, and then have had issues since.
DH does well on LC, but I need to try something new, so I'm trying JUDDD.
So far, I think, so good. Hope you like it too!

You are going to love this WOE. Like everyone said, come here often, ask questions and enjoy the ride!

The first few DD are a little hard but now it is a breeze. I don't even think about it anymore.

Our stats are similar starting out. I am still amazed that I have lost weight in this short amount of time eating anything I want. Just stick with it and don't get discouraged by the scale roller coaster and you will be at goal before you know it.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. You all are very sweet. Sophiecat, those are my precious boys=Abbot and Costello. Costello is the white one.

Janet TN-I saw your location=we live in the same place. What city are you in?

I am doing well so far. I have only had coke zero cherry, and a low call starbucks bottled frap at 100 cals. I read the website and my cals are 413 dd and 2063 ud.

But, it also said to simplify, just do 500 cals for the first 2 weeks. I am trying to do the 413 cals, but thought if it was just too much and I was dying tonight, i would allow my self the extra 87 cals. What do you think?

Absolutely, if you need them, add 87 calories.

Even add 187 if your first DD is stressful. It is for some people, it is no problem for others. If you go over a bit on the first few DDs, you will still have activated the sirtuin enzymes, that ol' JUDDD magic will begin, and very soon you will be used to DDs and able to reduce calories.

Welcome! Glad to hear the first DD is going well. And absolutely use those cals if you need them. Many start around 700 and work down as they are able in the first couple weeks. If you don't, great, but better to use them and keep going, than to quit because it's too hard.

Men just don't get it. They lose so easily. I think you will love JUDDD as much as the rest of us do.

Dawn did the same thing you did--spent the weekend before starting JUDDD simply eating whatever, took the bump in water weight from carbing up, and used that weight as her start weight. Whether you lc or not is up to you and how your body handles them. If they increase cravings and hunger, you may need to limit them at first.

Def take measurements, and avoid the scale if the bounces are going to mess with your head. Also plan to give it a full 2-4 weeks before passing judgement on whether it will work for you or not.

Looking forward to celebrating your success!

Yay!!we are neighbors. Hope your down day went well today. A lot of people have started their DD with a little higher calories if they need it and have done ok with that.

Before long you won't need them and your DD will be a breeze.

I went back and reread your story and it sounds a lot like mine (except for the marathon training ) You will be amazed at how easy this is. I haven't once considered stopping and you can't get bored with eating the things that you love. Good luck in your journey and I will be looking for your WOO HOOS soon

I'm very new at this JUDD thing also but what really helps me on DD is to make a broth (about 5 or 6 cups) and add: cabbage, Kale, parsley, tomatoes, carrots. I measure out the veggies and if I were ever able to eat the whole thing - it comes in about 240 calories. I haven't finished it yet but it keeps the edge off having a hot beverage. HTH! It does get better.

So, dd 1 down at 711 Cals. I dreamt of pasta, big macs, etc. last night looking forward to my UD. I got up this morning and I wasn't even hungry. I rode in to work thinking of all the wonderful choices I had and what would I eat for breakfast; still not hungry but knowing I needed something. I settled for a jr. bfast burrito and small tots from sonic. With my condiments, I am at 415 cals. (2063 today). Not exaclty low carb, but only 41. ;P
you know, I was thinking about what somebody said on this board. It was an older post about 'are you comfortable with having to count calories your whole life?'. I was thinking how you HAVE to count something; points, calories, carbs, etc. So, really aren't you picking your poison of choice? Plus, with JUDD, if you fast on your DD to little to nothing, you automatically fall into your dd range and the calories are so high on your UD, do you really need to count? Maybe in the beginning, but I could see how someone whose been doing this for a very long time isn't counting and doesn't have to.

Just some thoughts I was pondering..

Absolutely right about if you fast on DD then there are no calories to count. Warning: some of us do need to eat something on DD (stall or get dizzy/ill when fasting). You will learn how you react to low cal days over time. But, even if you need to eat, a lot of us eat the same thing every DD - just to keep it simple.

UDs can be . As you are seeing, some of us have to count cals on UD or we do not even come close to the number needed to make the magic work.

I got a big laugh when I told on myself - almost bedtime on UD, I was full satiated content, realized I had missed dinner and was at 600 cals for the day (not even at MD level) - 1000 to go and NO desire to get there.

OH, slightly over 700 cals on your first DD is great! You are off to a great start!!

Glad you're enjoying your UD, Wormie! Yes, many of us here experience the weirdness that is going to bed dreaming of food on DD only to wake up on UD and not feel hungry or not nearly as hungry as we thought we would be. And yes - choices, choices! The world is your oyster on JUDDD. You can choose anything.

I am one who can't fast on DDs, even after being on JUDDD for months, my system is not set up for fasting. I can go until 6 or 7 p.m. max on little to no calories if I'm really in the groove, but I start feeling "DD Glow Overload", if you can imagine that. The good feeling gets too strong and I feel like my system is overly stressed so I believe in my case it is wise to have food. I think some people are just built that way, and other can breeze through a fast like it's nothing.

Counting calories isn't too hard on DDs once you get used to your basic foods. Even if you're eating on DDs, there are relatively little calories by the very nature of DD, so counting then is a breeze. And like I said, once you get used to the calories in your "go-to" DD foods, you don't really have to count hard, you just know or estimate.

Counting on UDs.... yes on maintenance I do FDs - free days, where I do not count or restrict calories. Well, I sort of do a mental estimate at first just to make sure I'm not going to fall short of my basic calorie need (around 1700 min.) and then I forget it and don't think of it. On occasion I track loosely, and I seem to fall between 1800 - 2500 on my FDs
