Craving healthy food on UDs!!

Yesterday was an UD and I had lots of yummy selections around to choose from. But what did I want and crave?? Low fat cottage cheese with big juicy strawberries sliced on it. I had that with lunch and was amazed at how yummy and decadent it tasted. :D

Do healthier foods just taste better when we are doing JUDD??:dunno:

mid afternoon I wanted a snack. I heated up my crockpot oatmeal with sliced apples, stirred in a bit of Davinci syrup and squirted SF HWC on it. Yummers!:yummy:

Dinner was turkey breast simmered in a gravy I made from low sodium, fat free chicken broth. I had it with artichoke hearts and whole grain egg noodles, green beans and a side salad with no dressing.

One piece of double fiber toast and a glass of fat free milk was my snack before bed. I felt so full at the end of the day! And I ate zero junk. You would think with all this freedom on an UD, I would want junk.

I'm amazed at how I am now craving healthier foods and that they taste so awesome, when I could have less healthy stuff if I wanted it. This is so cool!:jumpjoy:

I have found the same thing happening! Cooking vegetables without oil or butter is amazing, they taste GREAT! I wonder if our palette changes as we rid the toxins ou. Glad im not the only one!t of our bodies. Or just by not putting so much food in our mouths on DDs. Who knows why, but i love it and crave fresh foods now!

You are definitely not the only one! With the exception of certain times of the month, I almost always crave what I consider healthy food now, and I think for me it's because my body is starting to instinctively seek out the food that will satiate me. JUDDD has made this so much easier for me, because now that I have a limited amount of calories to spend everyday, so to speak, I don't like to waste them.

It's not that I don't like my share of junky food because I do, but I'm usually in the mood for those after I've already had something to eat that really satisfies my hunger and am not quite so hungry anymore. When I'm starving and experiencing true hunger, junk food just doesn't sound good to me. So if there's extra room for junk food after I've had the stuff I really crave, I'll indulge if I'm in the mood. If not, no big deal. I've found that my craving for junk has seriously diminished since being on this woe. There are plenty of other days to indulge in that stuff anyway.

I agree, guys. :jumpjoy:

I mean, yeah I have my fair share of the occasional junk, but it's more occasional than it used to be. I know I can have it, so it's no longer this big craving going on (barring certain times of month or whatever). I was even thinking yesterday, "hey, I could go get a Big Mac Value Meal", but nope, just wasn't feeling it. :dunno: Now wait, a couple weeks and big hormone surge, and I probably won't be able to get myself to McDs fast enough.

But yes, I totally get this, what you're saying. My "staples" seem to be things like whole milk plain yogurt, berries, red grapefruit, apples, protein shake, salad or cooked veggies, tea or coffee, etc. Most every day whether DD or UD. And then other stuff fit in around that.

ME TOO!!! What happened to my tequeno I promised myself when I hit goal? (For those that don't know, this is a cigar-shaped pastry filled with guava paste and cream cheese, or queso blanco. They are served warm, and the insides are all gooey and yummy. Living in the culture here sure has some great advantages :yummy: )

I have always been healthy-ish when it comes to food, but JUDDD has really magnified my desire to eat the best I can (most of the time) and exercise/move more.

What more could we want? WE LOVE JUDDD!!!!!

Same here. I've been craving salads a lot lately and adding any raw veggies I can get (and I am not a veggie eater normally). Also been craving good protein like salmon and even sardines. And smoothies with yogurt or keifer and fruit. By the time I get done eating the good stuff I'm craving there usually isn't room for junk. Maybe that's why I overdid the junk this past weekend.....I'd been eating so good I just had to try some of that stuff again. And honestly....it wasn't so good (well, except for the ice cream LOL).

Your body is talking to you and you are listening :jumpjoy:

I think it also has to do with self love that may come with the whole awakening of JUDDD, we want to take better care of ourselves and our bodies.

Kathy-
If you like sardines, here is a recipe from a blog that I love. I have not yet made this one, but the tutorial is great!

Looks good! I have never eaten them any way but whole on toast. I like the smaller ones in marinara sauce but those are really hard to find in my neck of the woods for some reason so when I do find them I stock up. :)

I notice the same thing. I do have the occasional bad item but its not much at all. For instance breakfast this morning. 2 egg omelet with mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli and zucchini inside, 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 2 sliced strawberries, 5 red grapes, 5 green grapes and about 1/4 small apple sliced small. wonderful breakfast!!!
I'm addicted to oatmeal, either steel cut oats or whole oats, with peanut flour, flax, almond milk, small pieces of cut up apple, some walden farms syrup, yummy!!!
I eat yogurt every single day. Love it!! either mixed with some cottage cheese or with cocoa and peanut flour, or some kind of extract, maybe a little Kind granola. I lvoe eating healthy!!!
When i do have something bad, i dont want that much of it, maybe half a cookie or 1 piece of a mini chocolate, a bite of something. Its really all i want or need.
I love JUDDD!!!!

Well, I have not reached that point yet. After three months I will still choose the glazed doughnut (if sitting on the table) over something else. BUT I have quit drinking carbonated beverages without really trying. It just happened so that is a start.

Now I do love my Dannon plain fullfat yogurt with fruit for lunch every day and there is a bunch of healthy stuff in that meal. So there is still hope for me.

Omg I'm stealing this idea. :yummy: I have fresh tomatillo salsa verde often and I can whip up some fresh hot tomato salsa with habanero to mix in with avocados on my next UD!
Isn't it crazy that we frequently crave stuff like this over junky stuff now? I love it!

On DD, it helps me get through by using it as my spice to protein! Our cook whips up the best homemade Salsa Verde and any time she is making a Mexican dish, I ask her to set aside a jar for me. I could literally eat it on top of every single protein that I eat! :yummy:

Kimberly, You are AMAZING! I have yet to have a DD where I fasted the entire day. I always have to breakdown & have protein!

I find I eat many more vegetable at the moment, I thought it was because the spring was here, but maybe it is just another JUDDD bonus.

gotsomeold 04-07-2012 05:43 AM

In the book Dr J says this happens to many people.

I think BabyKinz is on point. As we learn to survive the rotating eating schedule, we have the opportunity to learn to listen to our own bodies. (Personally, my bod has always shouted for fresh avocado so loudly people in near-by counties heard it.)

The other thing I noticed while reading is, we don't just want 'healthy' food. We want healthy food prepared with interesting, deeelish flavors. I am cooking more and more, and my spice collection is increasing steadily. Perhaps as we throw away daily junk food we clear our palates and begin to really taste real, good food?

Well, maybe there is hope for me. I ate my Dannon yogurt and fruit yesterday without adding Splenda (as I usually do) and it was fine. I have always found yogurt to be too tart for my tastes. Guess the sweetness of the fruit was finally coming through for me. :jumpjoy: Less AS for me.

Yes! Been LOVING my veggies! But I've never been one to pass up a chocolate chip cookie
