Hi! My 2nd DD today. I felt a little sickly before lunch but it quickly went away. For some odd reason the DD isn't as hard as I thought it would be. Now I can imagine that going out to eat or watching someone else you may be eating with, eat regularly could be taunting! Anyway for now I've found what I think works for me on DD so far.

Protein, Protein, Protein! Eggs, Chicken Soup, Protein Bar and/or Protein Shake! I may venture into other things but it's so easy and filling for now this is the plan!

Today is DD #5 at my house, and although it's early, I'm off to a better start. The last two DDs were gnarly and anxious, thinking about food all day and about how to get the most volume bang for my caloric buck. I was aware of RESTRICTION all day long, and that isn't how I want to do this. Lousy feeling. So last night I changed tack a bit and decided to focus on the quiet time I'm giving my GI tract on DDs. Repair time, rest time. Feels better so far.

I'm trying to hit a groove with my UDs and DDs before I take this on the road next week. Too early to muck with MDs, etc., so I'm going to keep the rotation going while I travel for a couple of weeks. Wish me luck. I may need it then.
Thanks again for all of these threads. I had no idea how important the support part of this was going to be (and I'm only in week 2!).

Hey Kristin! Agree with Cindy-- you sound like you're in the right "space" for this and for traveling. I'm currently on a trip, and have another one in 2 weeks. For me, I find using the planning tools helps, and I don't feel like I'm out of control or really any different than when I'm doing the rotations at home.

I also agree with the initial "restriction" feeling, and how you have to mentally work through that or this whole thing might not work for you. I thought it would be insurmountable, but it really wasn't. I guess that was step 1 in the "healing" that so many report in JUDDD, for me.

This week I sort of went up and down and didn't go anywhere. I noticed that on the UD I was eating when I wasn't hungry to get all the calories in 2600. So yesterday, I focused on eating a good breakfast in the morning then eating only when I got hungry throughout the day. I ended up eating a little over 1900 calories. I also didn't go to the gym yesterday (but I did pack/move some boxes for about 40 minutes after work).

May I call you Denise? I get exhausted typing all the complex names here sometimes.

Aren't I write in thinking you got off to an amazing start with a 10 lb loss?

At this stage in your journey just do your best to follow the numbers but don't force food down. A week is nothing in the long term but I know it's hard to hear that when others are still losing.

This is not a race, just keep on keeping on. And packing boxes etc is definitely a work out!

Hello newbies. Sounds like you are all doing well. And NoWeigh, you changed your button again! Congrats on more pounds gone!!!

Denise--in case you haven't' read it, there's a thread about why our bodies need to rest after a big drop in weight. Puts a whole new spin on 'stalls' and makes them easier to deal with. I wouldn't force food in either, but you also want to make sure you are eating enough to take your body out of the stress response. For you, you might want to shoot for at least 2100 or so, which is just a handful of nuts more than what you managed this last UD.

Part of it is, you just want your body's metabolism to burn as hot as you can get it to, and reducing calories early in the game just means it gets used to running on less. There are some here in maintenance, at goal, who can eat upwards of 2000 cals on UD's and not gain (I'm not one of them yet). Now that's a fired up metabolism!

So while faster losses are nice, in the long run, and especially as you age, that hot furnace is going to stand you in good stead for keeping the weight off and being able to enjoy a freer maintenance.

Thanks NoWeigh, that is my 12 year old Norwegian Forest Cat. Kissa Cottontail is her name, this was taken a year or so back and I had forgotten what a great photo it was. I had to share it for a while.

Is that a pug in your avatar?

Yes, a pug, however not mine....but this one seemed interested in the scale, so he's helping me out!

Love dogs and cats!

AND...mykidsteacher, yes, changed again. It's magic....

Okay so went out of town this weekend and I knew it would be a challenge to do my DD Saturday. So today is my 3rd UD in a row. I didn't want to change the rotation b/c I need next Saturday to be a UD for sure. So will get back on track tomorrow w/ DD and see what happens. I don't have any plans on going off or not being able to stick to the DD until my vacation on May 16th. So prayers that I can keep it together until then!

I can't believe it's almost a month! I started on April 1st (I think) and tomorrow is the 30th! wow!

I'm back from CA, and working on getting into east coast time... did some gardening today.

Had a DD yesterday-- I was pretty hungry, so I probably went to 650 cal or so. I also think I'm in PMS, so if that's as bad as the hunger gets on a DD during PMS, I can handle it (well, handle it by having a bit more food)... but I've mentally allowed myself up to 700 on a DD if I need it, and I'm really working on the mental aspect, the no guilt, just do or don't do (my re-take on the Yoda thing).

I was actually happy to have a DD after a MD and a UD... makes me feel like I'm "doing" something. hard to believe I"m "dieting" on the UDs, ya know?

My next trip to CA is starts May 12th-- I've already worked out my rotations, based on the social/work commitments I know I'll have, as well as the travel days. Then I come back to a long-weekend away with foodie friends at their cottage-- so planning some MD/UDs to account for that, and back to DDs starting with the drive home

Anyhoo--that's in a couple weeks, but for now, got a roast in the oven, taking the dog to the vet tomorrow (which makes me lose my appetite, b/c we don't know what's going on with his paw).

Happy weekend folks!
S.

Hello all you lovely April Newbies.

I have seen so many wonderful reports all over the board in the past few days. There are some amazing successes her.

Some are struggling I know, but where else would you get the support you find here and still only diet half of the time?

It is about time to wind up this thread. Any of you who are still real Newbies, having joined in the past 10 days or so, please come over to the new thread I am about to start. "May Newbies Please Post Here." I will post a link to it here.

Can I ask a favour of you experienced April Newbies? Please, if you feel able, will you come over and post your first month losses? I know the Newbies would love that.

Then, off you go, you are JUDDD BUDDDs now, Newbies no more. It has been wonderful reading here. I know you are all ready to become advisors yourselves now.

Here is the May thread. http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/ju...t15621275.html
