The Bikini Thread

It's time to bikini shop.

The thought of it is scaring me, but I know I need to find "the one" and I better start looking. I've had good luck finding nice suits at JCPenny the last several years, so I'm going to start there on Friday.

I'm not really in the mood to do this, but I know me... if I don't get my butt in gear and find something, I'll be looking last minute before the beach trip this June or July. PLUS, I figure if I get the suit now, I will be more motivated to get toned up and look my best in it if it's there hanging where I can see it everyday... how little material it is *gulp*...

I may just talk myself out of this if I'm not careful, lol.

I've worn bikinis before, but it takes a lot for me to shed my inhibition and not feel too self conscious in one. Usually I can manage this at the beach, when we are so far from home and I loosen up and find I don't really care what strangers are thinking, lol.

In fact, the last time I wore a bikini, it was summer 2009 and I was at least 15# heavier than I am now (was coming off SSRI weight gain AND one of the most stressful jobs I'd ever had). It was the most baring swimsuit I'd ever worn and I bought it at one of those shops along the beach when we got there. I was happy though - had just quit that job, was through the withdrawals of the SSRI, and on my way down the scale, and at the BEACH!! I didn't care so much what anybody thought, I just wanted to cut loose some and have fun, and I did. :)

Gradually over the rest of the summer, I went down to my normal "set-point" range from then on, which was the 140s.

But fast forward to last summer - 2011, the summer where I weighed the most ever!! :( In June last year, I snapped back to reality when I saw pics of myself from a trip to TX... those pics were my wake-up call about how big I'd really become. I started trying to lose weight with LC, but it wasn't going anywhere near as fast as I'd hoped.

Then my DH announced one day soon after my weight loss efforts had started, that he got vacation time and we were going to the beach! I was happy because I LOVE the beach, but scared too, because I was so big and I didn't have a suit. I found one at JCPenny that would work. A one-piece, of course. But I was so disheartened... I'd never had to shop in the "bigger" sizes before, and this suit was a Women's size 20! It was slightly big on me actually, but I got it anyway because it was so comfortable, the most covering, and good quality.

*Sigh* I felt so "old" and "big" in that suit at the beach. :( (It was a huge size *to me* since I'd never been that big, you understand.)

I still had a great time, but I only took a pic of myself from the shoulders up, lol. And a pic of my feet in the sand.

:jumpjoy: Well, that's in the past, and now on JUDDD and other IF, I'm maintaining below my old "set-point" of the 140s! :jumpjoy: Living here between 135 - 140, I'm at the lowest yet most consistent and healthy-looking weight range of my adult life. I used to weigh this back when I was 16 or 17 years old... but of course my body has changed since then (for one thing, I seem to have kept stacking it up on top over the years, though thankfully I'm back down a little, lol.)

What's left to do is buy the suit and tone up. Ugh. I don't do any exercise now except a couple minutes of gentle bouncing on the rebounder 1 to 3x per day. Thank goodness for JUDDD/IF's fat-burning, muscle-sparing effect or I'd be a blob, lol.

Oh, just wanted to add "WHY" re: The Bikini. It's kinda "a thing" to me to wear one at least one time this summer... I guess mentally because of several reasons. Just wanna look hot, is one. And look good in a bikini before I hit 4-0. And it's kind of a visual reminder to me that I am maintaining at a great weight for me, and I do not ever want to get big again.. so there will never be another struggle to lose and scramble to look good at the beach (or anywhere!), or dismay at shopping for swimwear or clothes. Well, you get the idea....

Anyway, sorry this became a novella. :) I guess I'll use the thread to update how "the search" goes, and include pics of what I find.

If anyone else wants to use this thread as a journal of their own swimsuit search (doesn't have to be a bikini!), feel free! :) Or post pics of suits you find and like. Or talk about summer and bathing suits and the beach and all manner of summer-happy things. :)

Oh ---- before I posted this, I just had an idea and went and found that black "beach-shop" bikini and fearfully tried it on...

....then found an old pic of me from the summer I wore it on the beach. Posted below.

Summer 2009. Weight probably in the low to mid 150s. Notice the pose - that's me trying to hide my belly, lol. As mentioned above, this photo below was not my highest weight, but was taken over a year before I really started packing on the pounds and got up to at least 170# in winter 2010/spring 2011... (don't know how much higher I got than that because I refused to weigh myself).

April 4, 2012 The same suit as in 2009.

Back of suit (I cropped it so you won't be disturbed by cheeks hanging out, lol)

In case anybody wonders, I just don't think I can pull off this suit. Too much to deal with up top, as well as the amount of "rear work" I'd need to work on before I could wear it. And well, I'm lazy.

I do want something that's a true bikini though - no skirt bottom or tank top - but not too revealing on the top or bottom.

I love the black bikini, at the rate I'm losing right now I may be in shape for a bikini this year (-8lbs in 9 days!!), have 20 to go before I would look "acceptable" for a bikini, heck, I never even wore a bikini pre kids and when I weighed 106!! I just bought a nice 1 piece that is a bit too tight so that one will probably be what I wear this year.

You know the funny part about the fear that everyone on the beach is looking at you...everyone else has the same fear, and no one is looking at anyone else. Well unless they are 18 year olds, then they are scouting out the other "hot" 18 year olds.

lynnjp 04-04-2012 10:41 AM

WOW look at you looking amazing in that tiny suit!!! Pretty inspiring to see the changes you have made in the past three years, such a tiny waist and flat belly!! Best of luck in the search for the perfect suit-I am guessing you will look amazing in pretty much anything you try on!!! No bikinis for me at 61 but I am hopeful to make it into the water without wearing shorts like I have been the past few years LOL!!

OhioGuy 04-04-2012 10:46 AM

Man, the weather outside is really nice today....

Stitch 04-04-2012 10:48 AM

I was a chubby kid and chubbier teenager so I've never worn a bikini. I love swimming but because I'm not brave enough to wear even a swimsuit,I didn't swim between the ages of 14 and 20 when I finally got the courage to wear a tankini on a short holiday but I felt awful in it.I'm 22 now and to be able to wear a bikini and feel OK about it is my absolute dream. Maybe this year but I don't know. I got down to 114lbs a couple of years ago and even though I exercised I still looked awful so I just don't know.

carla70 04-04-2012 10:48 AM

You look great in that suit!

northandcold23 04-04-2012 10:54 AM

It looks great on you! I always buy the full cut bottoms - those bottoms you have scare me lol, but you look awesome in them

PixieKGirl 04-04-2012 10:57 AM

AWESOME!!! Have you tried on the black bikini? If it fits, wear it!! You look like a teen-ager or early 20's! Hmmmm.............I'm 48 but not sure if I'd wear any of my bikini's, got a drawer full. I'm just too darn WHITE and FLABBY. JUDD is making me re-think working out.

I like the black suit! I think you should wear it! It looks fantastic!

I don't like wearing bathing suits. In my pilates/barre classes, they always remind us that it's bathing suit season and we need to get ready for it. I  because even when I was "thin" I've always thought I was too fat to be seen in a bikini. I'm also the palest of the pale, so white fat is even uglier! I'll be surprised if I wear a bikini this year...and if I do, I'll be surprised if I don't wear clothes over it for most of the time. :0

Kissa 04-04-2012 10:59 AM

OMG, your skin fits! I had forgotten how that looks.

Seriously I love it but we will all enjoy commenting on any others....

vilanteira 04-04-2012 11:26 AM

Wow, Sophie look at you!!! I think you're rocking that suit and then some! Seriously, you look great in it, and I think you can be the poster child for the positive body composition rearranging that JUDDD often blesses us with!

gotitnow 04-04-2012 11:45 AM

Sophie...Sophie....Sophie....if I looked that good, I wouldn't worry bout buying another bikini!! You look gorgeous!!

Nice try Jamie!!!:hyst:  (couldn't resist)

LOVE it! You are looking great!!! I can only dream about that size right now!!! If I had your figure, I would have one bikini for each day!

Eieio 04-04-2012 11:48 AM

omg,omg,omg!
u look great!
U MUST KNOW THAT?!
OMG!
IM really turning green.
Save ur knew swim suite money.
U look like a fashion model in this one.
I also bought knew bathing suite last year. One pieces of course, from famous bar.
I liked it, I was ten pounds heavier then. So it will hopefully not be to baggy. Hey I 'll take baggy over tight any day.
UR a knock out! Green Ei signing off. Smile

mykidsteacher 04-04-2012 12:15 PM

Wow! You will rock whatever suit you wish to wear I'm sure. I'm not brave enough for a bikini, but I do need a new suit. My old one is black, and way matronish to hide my bigger belly and thighs of the last few years.

I think I may want a tankini this year. And something bright, rather than something black and blah.

alibaba 04-04-2012 12:27 PM

I was just complianing about my need to get motivated for my own bikini - and your pics are the kick in the a$$ I need!! You look AWESOME!

KeirasMom 04-04-2012 12:30 PM

You look fabulous, and I agree, you should save your swim suit money and wear the one you have. Spend that money on drinks at the beach!

heyjupiter 04-04-2012 12:33 PM

You look FABULOUS!!

I don't do the bikini thing... I've got waaay too many stretch marks due to rapid weight gain at the hands of medication over the years. But, I do love wearing tankinis. I hope I look half as good in my tankini as you do in your bikini!

KathyL 04-04-2012 12:34 PM

Wow....you look fantastic in it!!!! If I looked that good I'd be really tempted (though my dh might not approve LOL!). As it is, even at my ideal weight my tummy will never look that good without surgery. LOL!!!

Showcats 04-04-2012 12:47 PM

Sophie - you look fantastic!

arkie1 04-04-2012 04:20 PM

I am jealous! I feel like I've wasted my whole life and never been in bathing suit shape, let alone bikini shape! I really doubt I would have worn one had I been in shape, but it would have been nice to have that choice! :dunno:
You are :sing: it, tho. Congratulations!

Carole

KeirasMom 04-04-2012 04:25 PM

Ha! When I had a bikini bod, I wouldn't be caught dead in something so revealing. Now I wish I had flaunted it while I had it! :hyst:

Lianora Mosswood 04-04-2012 05:43 PM

Holy cow! You have the tiniest waist and look stunning in that suit!

Same here, except I was always too self conscious to even learn how to swim. :o Still don't know how. I would be happy if I looked good in a one piece! I already have one picked out, I like the retro 50s style suits.

You look amazing Sophie! I would never believe that you don't really work out like you always say. Definitely keep us posted on the new suit search! :jumpjoy:

sazzie 04-04-2012 07:06 PM

Wowzers, Sophie!

I agree, save your money! You've got it going with this bikini!!!

mttemple4 04-04-2012 07:31 PM

You look amazing, Sophie! I know you want a new suit (and you've earned it!) but this looks fantastic as well.

Add me to the never worn a bikini club. lol

Beeb 04-04-2012 07:39 PM

Oh, to be 38 again! I am below the weight I was at 38 but my body does not look anywhere near what it did then! :stars::eek::p I would be laughing so hard in the dressing room if I tried on a bikini that they would probably call security to see what was wrong and then security would be :eek: and I would laugh even harder! :hyst::lol::rofl:

Enjoy that wonderful, youthful body you have and I say buy several bikinis, all in different colors, shapes and sizes and show off that wonderful YOU!! :high5:

Low Carb Librarian 04-04-2012 07:46 PM

You look great! If my belly looked anything like that I would be wearing that EVERYWHERE!
:)

Hatewashingup 04-05-2012 12:44 AM

Wow, you really look fantastic, congrats on your hard work getting and maintaining that figure!
