newbie with a couple of questions

Hi you all!
I am waiting for my book to arrive, and I have some questions that are burning under my fingernails:
- So the first phase should be 2 weeks, that when every other day is a down day with the calculated cals?
- What if I don't get all the cals in on an up day? Will I screw the whole thing? Well I guess after a dd it might be easy to eat a lot....
- what are you doing when going on vacation? Just watch every other day not to eat too much? Same when you are eating out on a dd, and you can't weigh your food.
-what if you indulge and suddenly have to ud's in a row, are you supposed to do two dd's?
- when you have reached goal you calculate the cals for dd again, how are you doing this? Going up to 35% for a week, then 50% and so on? Why are there so many % for maintenance? When our body is working properly again, are we supposed to eat 100% all he time? No dd's anymore?

Thank you! Rebi

I'm pretty new to juddd so I can't possibly answer all your questions. But the one for sure that I can answer is that you are never to go back to eating 100% of the time everyday. There will always be up days and down days whether you are wanting to lose weight or maintain your weight. That is the basis for all the positives of this woe. The only thing that changes are the percentages, or in other words, the amount of food you eat on a given day. For your other questions I will leave that to the pros who I'm sure will come along sooner or later with expert advice much better than mine. Until then, good luck on your new woe.

I'm a JUDDD newbie, too, so I'll only comment on one of your questions.

You don't have to eat all of your UD calories. It is very hard for me to do so, but I try to get close. TBH, eating my recommended UD calories makes me feel stuffed! But, the next day, on a DD, I am thankful I ate over what my body would feel satisfied with, as these extra calories propel me through my DD. And so far, I've been losing quite well, about 7 lbs in 9 days. Of course, every BODY is different, so you need to find what works for you. I'm just thankful that this WOE has kicked my weight loss back into gear.

More seasoned JUDDDers will be able to answer all of your questions, but I wanted to comment on my experience during my first week.

Good luck!

- So the first phase should be 2 weeks, that when every other day is a down day with the calculated cals?
Many of us stay around the induction 500 cal/DD level and lose just fine. You have between 0 (fasting) and your calculated DD calories (if they are more than 500) or 500 calories, or a bit above 500 calories. It depends on your metabolism and, after you are used to eating low cal on DDs, you should experiment some. I eat between 200 and 600 calories on DDs.

- What if I don't get all the cals in on an up day? Will I screw the whole thing? Well I guess after a dd it might be easy to eat a lot....
If you eat way too little on UD you will not come out of caloric stress response and risk both stalling and feeling yucky. Chuckle, when some of us realize our UD has become a DD (late in the UD) we grab a drink, eat a few spoons of PB, or otherwise take in a lot of calories in a hurry. If I truly ate almost nothing on an UD, I change my rotation and make the next day an UD. With practice, you will learn how much you have to eat to break stress response.

- what are you doing when going on vacation? Just watch every other day not to eat too much? Same when you are eating out on a dd, and you can't weigh your food.
On vacation if I can continue the rotation I do. If I decide to stop the rotation, I watch what I eat every day and try not to overeat. First day back is a DD. Usually any weight gained is gone after two or three DDs.
If I go to a restaurant, I try to prepare and investigate calories before I go. If that info is not available, I get a salad with dressing on the side. Frankly, I almost never eat out on DD.

-what if you indulge and suddenly have to ud's in a row, are you supposed to do two dd's?
Two DDs in a row put you at risk of falling into starvation mode and stalling. If a DD becomes an UD, your response depends on how you need the rotation to go. Either do two UDs in a row and return to your planned rotation, or (after a DD becomes an UD) make the planned UD into a DD and change the rotation. Dealer's choice.

- when you have reached goal you calculate the cals for dd again, how are you doing this? Going up to 35% for a week, then 50% and so on? Why are there so many % for maintenance? When our body is working properly again, are we supposed to eat 100% all he time? No dd's anymore?
DDs continue at an increased caloric rate. You raise them until you find your maintenance level. I have no idea why Dr J felt he had to put in so many maintenance percentages.

I hope this was not too . I am sure others will join in today.

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

Brilliantly answered Nancy, I was delighted to see that you had done the work for us.

Don't over stress Rebecca, it isn't hard. As you are a vegan it is probably harder for your to get in those extra UD calories, I doubt you enjoy a glass of wine like I do. Perhaps fruit juice? Coconut oil? Those calories add up fast.

Rebecca, I was looking at the JUDDD calorie calculators sticky thread. If you scroll down there is one I think called Swole ? It has an option where you can enter a Vegan option and it will give you meal suggestions which give you all the nutrients you need.

Well worth a look.
