Thinking of JUDDD, need advice!
Hi everyone, I've been on Atkins since the end of January. My weight loss has been fairly steady (27 lbs gone), but I'm considering JUDDD because it seems like a more realistic WOE. My husband and I are both getting bored with Atkins. My question is, if I start with the JUDDD WOE, should I continue to restrict my carbs on UDs? Should I merge Phase 2 of Atkins (gradual increase carbs through veggies and other 'healthier' carbs) on the UDs in JUDDD? If I don't, and I eat considerably more healthy carbs on UDs (not fries and pies! :-)) should I expect a temporary plateau or weight gain as my body transitions? I've been at or below 20 net grams of carbs per day for so long, I'm afraid of gaining when I make the switch. Any advice is appreciated!

That is completely and totally up to you if you want to keep restricting your carbs or not. You don't have to but you can. If you do add in carbs you will gain some water back. This is not you putting on weight in the sense that your body is rebelling or that you're stalling, but when you restrict carbs your body retains less water. Carbohydrate attaches to water so if you're eating 20 grams of carbs or 200 grams of carbs, there's a big difference in the amount of water that your body will hold on to. But that's considered lean body mass and is really unimportant other than the psychological issues when facing a rising number on the scale.

to JUDDD!! Nice to have you!I agree that it's up to you how you introduce carbs. Most people on here recommed that you start slowly if you've been on low carb for awhile because that initial water weight gain can freak people out. Either way, my opinion is that if you decide to do JUDDD, then make a commitment to stick with it for awhile. The scale bounces, but there are so many people on here that "would have given up" if they relied on the scale and then went on to drop 30 lbs after that. Let your body adjust to this WOE! I can't wait to hear about your progress!

Thanks! My family is going on a cruise this Saturday
Going to be surrounded by food. I think I will wait until I get home to begin JUDDD... either way it's going to be a jolt to my system as I'm sure not going to be able to resist some things. I look forward to joining the JUDDD family! |

CartersMommyI totally agree a cruise is probably not the most advantageous place to begin JUDDDing. Have a wonderful time and come to the dark side when you get back. ![]() |

Because it's like we're the Evil Empire of weight loss. We tempt low-carbers with promises of cookies AND losing weight. We use our Jedi-like powers to lose weight despite eating all kinds of carbs and formerly forbidden foods.

Enjoy your cruise, and then come home and start JUDDD. If you have carbs on the cruise (and really, how can you not?), you'll have the water weight regain already taken care of and you can just start your rotations eating how you want. Of course, for daily consumption, the healthy carbs are better to focus on, rather than lots of refined sugars/starches. But it's nice to be able to have the treats occasionally as well.
Welcome! |

I just wanted to add another question on this if someone could answer? I am also thinking of trying JUDD but wondered what to do if I had family get togethers/dinners over the next month or so. The days just don't coincide with 1 up and 1 down based on when the dinners are. Did any of you experience this and how did you manage it when you first started?

Who knew that upping my overall calorie level and allowing myself to eat whatever I want would push me through a weight loss "pause" and bring me to my lowest weight in years? Sometimes I wonder at what point my family is going to wonder what's going on as I'm losing weight and appear to eat a lot (well, at least in front of them!) |

It's not recommended to use these very often, especially within the first 2 weeks to a month, when you're building up SIRT1. |

I use MDs to rearrange my rotation if family/friend things pop up with some lead time. But I find MDs do slow my weight loss. So, at some family events that fall on DDs, I eat a salad and just-say-no.

I agree on the slow losses, I threw in 3 MD in the last 3 weeks and my losses slowed down quite a bit. On every MD, it was a surprise get together or dinner that I really had no more than a day's notice. The idea that I can do this, when something arises makes JUDDD so much more easy to stay with than previous WLP.
