Question about DD's
Is it better to eat up to your alloted calories, or eat little to nothing on DD's?
Depending on what % I chose I can have from 435-870 calories. I've been eating less than 300... is that OK? |

I think it's better to fast if you can but I'd like to see what someone with experience has to say. I also want to throw in another question.
If you fast on your DD's, does that have any effect on your UP cals? |

No expert here but from what I read on these boards ( my book still hasnt gotten here ) being below on your DD is okay, its your UD that you should really try and get as close to that number as possible, or alittle more.
I would shoot for the lower of your DD and use the 20% from the calculator. |

As less food is eaten, most bodies produce more sirtuin enzymes - which is what we want.
Some people can fast, feel great, and lose weight. However, some people lose better eating their DD calories (or below or even a bit above) than they lose when fasting. Each metabolism is different. And - joy of joys - this is an opportunity to learn what is best for YOU. |

Yeah, I am not going to completely fast on my DD (though I understand that those who do are just fine and it might work for you, too). My DD 's are when I know that every calorie I eat has plenty of nutrition, because I'm not gonna waste a single calorie on a DD.
On UD's I can be found eating a lot of things that aren't necessarily all that great for me, though I am getting WAY better at that, and I still have an eye for nutrition. So, in answer to your question, I would start with making sure my UD calories were on target, and THEN eat between zero and your DD allotment on alternate days. See how your body handles that, and go from there. There's just nothing about this that is super-restrictive, and you learn as you go along. |

I always eat my UD calories. It's usually a struggle as the "magic" kicked in and I'm not very hungry. I'm also doing JUDDD low-carb, so I always eat "clean". I was just wondering if I ate no calories or sum calories, if it would hurt or help my progress.

Juddd is just a recommendation for intermittent fasting.if I recall the number correctly Dr Johnson is referencing the discovery that on fast days we can eat up to 35% of up day (normal eating) and still get the benefit of sirt1 gene activation for health benefits. The lower you are the closer you are to true fasting but that shouldn't matter once the gene is on and sirtuin enzymes continue to get produced. So if you are feeling a true fast day go ahead but don't stress to get there.
It is the combo of a full normal up day plus a fast/down day that makes it work.

If you can eat no calories on DDs it will HELP. Dr. J only gave the percentages because he knew most people are not able to fast completely. But fasting is best on DDs. I can do it every now and then, but only if I've had a really nutritious UD the day before where I ate all of my UD calories. Then I'm fine. HTH! ![]() |
