If you are losing some fat, estrogen is stored in fat, so often, on any diet where there's fat burning/loss, you might see some breakthrough bleeding mid-cycle, or other weird things.

If you're not fully through menopause, or haven't started it, or are in perimenopause, then just chalk it up to extra hormones and don't fret too much, it's pretty common.

p.s. I've had it before, years ago when I first started LC and I lost 15 lbs in the first 6 weeks... and then again last month after having a good LC restart in January. But not when I'm not really losing.

Yes, and we've also had a couple folks who had symptoms they felt were toxins being released from the fat stores in their bodies as they lost weight. So the fat is apparently quite the storehouse of chemicals, and for some, a sign of weight loss are these chemicals and hormones being re-circulated through the bloodstream.

i'm on a continuous non period birth control pill and when i'm in weight loss mode...i hope anyway...i spot the whole time....i did the same on atkins when i was losing quite well and on a different pill, when i eat on vacation and obviously NOT in wlm the spotting stops completely....i asked my gyn for concern, he said it's the estrogen in the fat and to keep on losing the weight, if i EVER get into maintainence then it will stop...but for now, i'll take a sure sign that im losing even if the scale will NOT BUDGE!

Can I add just a little word of caution? My mother's doctor told her that if she had **any** bleeding after a year without periods (she was early 50's) to get herself into the office immediately.

Good thing she did, too, at the first sign of trouble. She had cervical cancer and that one little precaution allowed her to live an additional forty years.

This is not intended to scare anyone, but please keep it in mind, because it DOES happen.

I had two cycles first month judding and extended spotting. Usually have long/erratic/skip cycles (thank you pcos) I figured combo fat loss and perimenopause. Blech
