I'm thinking of the way a filter works: it's a solid piece, doesn't move, and substances are forced through it; I can't imagine that DE could do that in your body in any way.
However, I just read that DE is very porous and is used for cleaning up industrial spills. Not sure if it's the kind we're taking, though.
I used to take charcoal and bentonite clay for acid reflux; they are both renowned for their absorbent qualities, so I was careful not to take vitamins or medications for an hour before or after, and to take them on an empty stomach in case they absorbed nutrients from food. You could take the DE that way to be on the safe side.
What I'm wondering is even if the DE does absorb nutrients, do they bind together? If not, as it goes through the digestive system, the body might be able to take those nutrients right back out. In comparison, I think charcoal binds with particles and that's why it can be used as a poison antidote. Any scientists around to help us out?!
