I think that's why I quit taking it too, Dawn. It's kind of a pain to mix it and drink it, even though it takes, what, about 30 seconds? I'm trying to get it back into my routine. We'll see....

I've been adding it to my protein shakes and my hot cocoa. I t per item, so if I have two protein shakes and a cocoa, that could be 3t that day or more.
But I just started back about half a month ago or so, maybe three weeks, so no way to tell of benefits. My finger nails are super brittle, so I'll notice if they stop breaking off every few days.

I just ordered some and it arrived. I have been using it to brush my teeth and that is WONDERFUL! I can't believe how clean they get.

I need to start drinking some, though. I need to reread to see about portions.

I always wonder about Pirate Jenny as I take my ptero.... And now DE. Hope she is OK as she is a wealth of knowledge.

I need to start taking it again. I agree, I have a hard time remembering to take it. I take so many other supplements that it really it hard to get it in. But I want great hair, just like Cindy! I have noticed my hair is starting to thin around my face. Oh the joys of getting older.......not I have started on the liquid magnesium bandwagon (there is a huge thread in the playground on that one) and have great nails from taking that. But I could use a little help with my hair now.

I've been drinking the DE every day for about a month again - I stopped for a few weeks for no good reason. I use the DE/water mixture to swallow my ptero - keep them together in the closet - first thing each morning.

I didn't think my nails were improving prior, but in this frigid weather - by this time they would have snapped off from the dry/cold - not this year. I think I'll actually get a nice manicure on pretty nails for the holiday!

Who JUST drinks it as saturated water and has seen positive benefits? someone on here said that is the beneficial way for absorption but I cannot find much about other people who only drink it that way so I don't know if I should drink it like that or just take it by the spoonful.

I have started taking it again but I was taking it at night and for some reason I suddenly am waking up every hour. So I am going to try taking it in the morning and see if it is what is causing my sudden sleep issue which I never have. My hair benefited before and I just kept forgetting but I am back on the wagon.

Just curious - those of you who say it helps with your hair (Cindy, Adi), exactly what improvements have you seen? Is it faster growth, increased thickness, less breakage, softer, shinier?

I'm wondering. My hair is long and I think fairly healthy, but I have noticed what seems like a lot of hair falling out. It may just be that the longer strands make it seem like more is falling out than it did when it was shorter. I'm hoping. It doesn't seem to be getting any thinner except at the very ends, so maybe it's breakage and not falling out.

Mine grows faster I am certain and I feel it is far better than it used to be around my hairline. And yes it feels nice and soft except when I spray it too much :0

I have always drunk it all MSN08.

My hair is long and I wear it up a lot and drinking the DE made the little short new growth not so fly away and I felt the rest was thicker also. Not meaning more hairs per inch but the individual hairs being thicker. I have a lot that falls out but I think I notice it more due to the length.

By the spoonful? I'm confused - I can't image not choking on it as it is like chalk dust. My understanding is that although it is not fiberous and does not need additional water - that extra water would help it do its job. The makeup - jagged edges, for lack of a more technical term - help scrape out gunk, but does not work like fiber would - absorbing along the way out.

I do brush my teeth with it a few times a week, and again, usually get my toothbrush wet first - and then dip into the DE.

I have been blessed with thick hair, so even at 62 - my hair has not thinned much. I really don't know if the DE is helping with my hair now - but it DOES grow faster than it use to - my five week haircuts barely contain it. My stylist has commented these last few months on how fast it grows haircut to haircut.

Yes, I don't know how you'd get it down by the spoonful either - YUCK! I have tried it two ways:

*1 T in 8 oz of water, every morning

*2 T in a gallon pitcher of iced tea, changing it every couple of weeks. I read somewhere that just letting it settle in the bottom of a water or tea pitcher and drinking out of it and refilling it, you get the same benefits as if you actually mix it into a cup of water. I don't know which is better, but I stopped doing both, and I'm not drinking hardly any iced tea now that it's cold, so taking it by the cupful is my only way right now.

I mean by the glassful not dry on a spoon. So either 1 tbs in a pitcher of water and let it settle to the bottom and then drink from the pitcher over a period of time or just spoon in into a glass every day and drink it down. Someone on here said the most beneficial way is to drink it in the container as "saturated water" and I want to see how many of you drink it that way. Hope I am being clear enough I just want to make sure I will get the benefits.

I just measure one T in a small glass and add enough water to mix it up enough to drink in two swallows. Then follow with a glass or plain water.

Okay nothing short of amazing is happening to me! A little history...I would get "drunk" anytime I ate rolls from Texas roundhouse no exaggeration here just a couple bites in to a roll I would start feeling difficulty forming words, extremely giddy and loopy and have to be escorted out of the restaurant on my DHs arm because I was falling over and couldn't walk straight. I don't react well to gluten so I always just assumed it was another manifestation of the gluten intolerance in extreme forms and once home I would be up all night with debilitating leg and arm cramps as well but most bothersome was the loss of motor skills I got every single time I ate those rolls. Last night I downed a glass of D.E water and Apple cider vinegar right before going to Texas roadhouse and since it was already decided that I wasn't going to be the driver for the ride home I decided to eat a roll and long story shortened I was able to eat five rolls,a onion blossom, salad with croutons, and the sauce on the ribs all of which I normally have strong reactions from and I did not have a single problem! I normally am bloated and gassy as well and its the morning after and I never had a cramp or any of the usual things I suffered from. I told DH if I am dreaming please don't wake me up! Unreal! I don't know if it is the de or the combo of acv and de but I have been taking acv for three months and have still reacted to foods until last night so I don't know how or why but I am amazed if this continues!

Hi y'all!
I still take DE almost every night...what I do is keep a container of it (a coffee can, with a spoon in it), a bottle of water, a jelly jar, and another spoon to stir with on my dresser in my bedroom and take it before bed. Or an hour before bed, if I remember, because it helps me fall asleep.
That way everything is handy. I don't wash out the jar I drink from very often but if I keep it in the kitchen my son makes fun of me.
Another place to keep it could be the bathroom...drink your DE & brush your teeth with it, and rinse to get rid of any grit. It just so happens that I moved recently and the sink in the bathroom doesn't work.

Mostly I've noticed that my hair doesn't fall out as much when I take DE regularly.

A lot of people on another DE thread I started a few years ago (on a hair care site) noticed that their food allergies and sensitivities went away or the symptoms were milder, so MSN08 maybe you are not dreaming!

I've started adding a bit of boron (in the form of borax...yes, the stuff you can add to your laundry ) to the DE because a few years ago I was taking it and it also helped me sleep. What I've noticed is that I wake up with no back or joint pain when I take it! I don't usually have a LOT of joint pain, but have to move a bit slowly when I wake up til I "warm up" a little, you know? And I often have some sort of back pain--either sciatica, or a "grinding" feeling & stiffness in my sacroiliac joints. I also get lower back pain when I stand for too long...it's very deep & severe & sometimes even makes me feel like throwing up. But I can stand for longer periods of time without pain on the days after I take boron! This is especially nice because I've been babysitting and the little boy likes me to hold him so he can see what's going on.

The boron tastes a little flat & sweet, like baking soda (without the fizzies) or water with electrolytes. I think it has an alkalizing effect and that may be why it helps me with pain & insomnia.

Gotta get to the post office before it closes but just thought I'd say hi real quick!

thanks Seabreezes!

Just borax.

Actually I just double-checked and borax is a "compound" of boron...I don't know enough about chemistry to understand or explain the difference but borax is a mineral found in dry lake beds.

I only take 1/8-1/4 tsp per day.

Some people use it externally; it's anti-fungal and supposed to be great for acne & many other skin conditions.

I read a lot of testimonials (on a site called earthclinic) before I decided to try it.

I'm really happy because I hate when my back hurts! It makes everything so difficult!

PJ, how great to see you. Missed you lots, though I know you are busy. Still knitting?

I get virtually no joint pain nowadays. But I don't know if it is the DE or the Glucosamine. So I keep taking both.

MSN I love the result, whatever caused it.

I looked at the Borax at the store and it said to go to the doctor if you ingest it! There was some additive. I will try to find some boron to try.

Kissa, not knitting so much but babysitting...almost 8 months now!
Baby was just under 3 months when I started and it's been so fun to watch him grow and hit new developmental milestones almost every week. In the last couple of weeks he's actually started squirming out of his mom's arms & reaching for me when he sees me!

I went back and did some more reading about borax, and decided to try it on my hair. I have had a very itchy/flaky/inflamed/scabby/yucky scalp for about 25 years...I have tried many remedies but they can be inconvenient or expensive. I dissolved a little borax in warm water and poured it over my scalp when I washed it 3 days ago. Not only has my scalp felt & looked wonderful, but my hair is SMOOTH! I have straight hair down to my elbows but it always looks messy because the short hairs just curl and stick up & out every which way! I've tried hair products & straightening it, and nothing ever works for more than a few hours--especially in winter, with static cling. But my hair is still smooth & I love it!

I also gently washed my face with borax and my skin was super-soft for 2 days.

Seabreezes, I have often found that "alkalizing" helps me a lot with pain. I take a little baking soda in water whenever I have back pain, headaches, menstrual cramps, etc. Some people also do alkalizing diets or add mineral drops to their water. Sorry to hear you are still in pain from your accident.

Happy New Year!
