I make my own tooth powder with it in the magic bullet. Organic coconut oil, DE, baking soda, Natural Calm magnesium with calcium, organic peppermint oil. Stir it up, put in a tub to resolidify (I sit the oil either near a heat vent or in a warm spot for a while before making to liquify), once solid I break it up with a butter knife and pulverize with more DE to a nice tooth powder consistency. Just wet toothbrush and dip in, then brush.
Makes a lot at once and the whole family uses it. We fill cheap flip top jars with it. No nasty fluoride to kill your metabolism or glycerine to keep teeth from remineralizing.

I was leery of taking DE, but once again am considering it. If I bought it from a feed store, how could I be sure it was food grade? Probably a silly question lol. I have bought so many things that people recommended...and quit using. L-glut comes to mind. I have a tub of it virtually un-touched.

I put mine in a pitcher and drink water from it. BF does too, cause he has no choice, Haha. I use it to brush my teeth. Sometimes I use it straight on the brush, and sometimes I use it after brushing with my bakingsoda/coconut oil/salt/peppermint paste.
Using DE alone to brush is tricky cause it's so fine and yet chalky. but it is really effective at cleaning so I like it. You have to rinse really well to get all of it out and you know when it's all washed away.

I didn't know that about glycerine and remineralizing! I haven't used regular toothpaste in years. I just never felt good and clean afterward. I felt better using plain water and a soft bristle brush, how crazy is that.

I don't know if drinking the DE is helping my nails or hair. Recently my nails have been breaking a lot more, it's a coincidence that I'm now taking DE and I know it's not the cause, but I will surely notice once my nails STOP breaking every other day like crazy!!!

I haven't been taking it as teaspoon doses though, I did a couple of times then kept forgetting. maybe I set a reminder to restart and that may make a difference.

As far as I know, the only other kind of DE sold in stores is pool grade, so as long as you're not buying that, you should be okay.

Had my dental checkup yesterday. I had X-rays a quick exam by the dentist and my teeth cleaned in just under 30 minutes thanks to the tooth soap and DE. Last time was quick but did not include the yearly X-rays and exam. I will certainly continue brushing with DE along with my tooth soap.

Just a little sidestep from DE: in addition to brushing with DE or tooth soap or homemade tooth powder, I highly recommend oil pulling if you can stand it, it really helps keep gums healthy, which in turn helps keep teeth healthy!

I brush my teeth with DE about once or twice a week, and I also do the oil pulling about as often. I think both are really helping! And my teeth are so nice and white and shiny!

Great report Adi! I'll be interested to hear what my hygienist says when I see her in July.

I am familiar with oil pulling and have tried it but I absolutely hate the process so I just stick with DE and tooth soap. Am really glad the teeth cleaning only takes 15 minutes now. Fast, faster and fastest. In and out. YES!!

I found some "food grade DE" at the pet store of all places. I got some, but it's just in a plain clear plastic bag with no instructions. Is this safe to consume?

if it has no other ingredients, and it's food grade it's probably okay.

Ok, I just bought some food grade DE from a reputable supplier on Amazon. I'm going to start it on July 1st and see how it goes. I'll report back after a month or so with my results.

I started with 1tsp for 2 days, increased to 2tsp for 2 days, and am currently having 1 T this morning (day 5). I haven't noticed much, except I'm much more regular (sorry if that's TMI). It's normally every few days, but I've been visited by Bernice each of the last 3 days, so that's good.

I can't quite remember what happened with my turmeric paste. I think I ended up throwing about half of it out because it got contaminated or something. Anyway, I just made a new batch of paste. with a twist.

I took 1/2 cup of water with an extra splash and added about 2-3 Tablespoons of chopped ginger, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. I brought it to a boil, turned the heat off and then let it steep for 5 minutes. After that, I strained off the ginger solids and used the ginger/pepper liquid to hydrate the turmeric powder, to which I added 2T of sweetener. I returned the heat long enough to dissolve the turmeric and make a smooth paste.

It's now cooling in my glass container but I'm sure it's gonna stain the lid. Anyhow, I took 1/2 teaspoon of the paste, 2 cups of almond/coconut milk, and 1 teaspoon of ghee and heated that together on the stove and whisked it to make it a smooth solution. It was not sweet despite the sweetener I added so I put a tiny scoop of stevia in the individual 8oz I was drinking and it was an interesting warm beverage. I'm letting the other cup cool in the fridge to try it cold. I want to add cinnamon, but I cannot find my jar.
I'm gonna work my way up to adding cinnamon and cayenne to it also, as they are both supposed to be good for various things: blood sugar balance, weight loss, hunger reduction, antioxidant, etc.

I have been using DE as a gentle abrasive mixed with a lotion type cleanser to wah my face. It feels pretty good, about the same effect as the microdermabrasion cleansers.

Very interesting. I may try this, although my skin has gone from being able to withstand almost anything in my 20s and 30s to super-sensitive in my 40s. I wonder if that would be too much. I'll try it on a small area first.

By the way, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your pup! Beautiful! I just love shephards of all kinds. My little sheltie was my love.

How interesting ! I was looking for a way of integrating more silica in my diet and googled and it brought me right back here to this forum. Thank you for sharing your experience.
A bit of info. Silica from food source is only 4% bioavailable as it occurs in high carb foods mainly which makes absorption difficult . So supplementing with this is ideal for us who want to lose without being left with loose skin,hopefully...

Just wanted to pop in and say that I'm still taking DE.
My hair and nails are growing faster and stronger than before DE, so that's a great thing!

This weekend I had some horrible trapped air in my intestine, it really hurt. I took a good probiotic and some extra DE, and that cured the problem!

I feed it to the dog as well, we use it to support her deworming cure. Not sure if it's doing anything great, but it's definitely not doing anything bad.

Also, this weekend I discovered a huge amount of ants and lice on my flowers, so I'm going to use some DE to see if I can naturally get rid of them!

Thank you so much. I took this pic of Becky for a photography class & I have an 8" X 10" close up of her face which we put in the photo exhibit after completion of the class. She was 13, almost 14 when I took the picture. She passed a few months later & this picture is a very special. Losing her was hard but she had a very nice life.

I've been drinking my dirtied water since finding this thread.

Does de interfere with the absorption of other supplements?

I began drinking dirt a few weeks ago. For me, the energy it gives me is wonderful! I skipped a few days, because I felt it was slowing down my digestive system - but started up again last night when I realized I was not waking with the same energy. I can feel the difference in one day as to my energy level - today I was more awake and this after a day off work, where normally I crawl back into my normal routine.

I know it was mentioned that you need to drink a lot of water with it - but wonder if others do? I was trying, but I like to have the dirt at bedtime - and an extra 16 oz. of water with it just means many wake ups to pee thru the night. I could try drinking the dirt in the AM and see how it affects me - but was just wondering if anyone drinks extra water with it?

I haven't been taking it lately, but when I did, I took it first thing in the morning with a lot of water. Then for awhile I put a tablespoon or so in the bottom of my iced tea pitcher (gallon) and just left the DE "sludge" at the bottom for a few re-makings of tea. Supposedly you can get as much good out of doing that. I don't know. I really didn't feel much different either way. I wish I got the energy you get from it!
