I don't actually know much about nails; I just Googled to get that other info I posted.

But a little more Googling, just for you...

Horizontal ridges can indicate illness or malnutrition, but vertical ones are said to be "harmless".

One remedy I came across is to soak your nails in olive oil.

Some people think the ridges are caused by fungus. So, for that...coconut oil, ACV, & borax are commonly used.

i think the vertical ridges are often a normal sign of aging. However, I have Sjogren's Syndrome, an autoimmune condition that dehydrates all mucous membranes. The vertical ridges in nails are very characteristic of SS.

The ridges do get worse as you get older. They are a nuisance as the nail edges then catch on things and split. I buff the worst ones out.

I'm in good health and supplement everything so I don't think they are a sign of anything wrong. Just one of those glitches that we are prone to. Some things seem to be hard wired to age at set times like your eyesight, quite separate from other more malleable bio markers for age. The new hairs in my hairline are annoying me as they keep tickling my face. Nice to see them growing out though.

Oh Good. Since vertical ridges are a sign of aging and I don't have any ridges in my nails I must not be aging. Love good news.

I have been reading with great interest about DE and have now ordered some, look forward to seeing the results. Im sure my hair is thinning so if it could help with that that would be fab.

How much do you generally take in a day?

Golden Kefir

Well, I just made some Turmeric Paste on the stove with about 1/4-1/2t ground black pepper from my pepper mill.

I've left it on the counter to cool. The pan had a lot of residue so I poured some kefir into the pan and stirred it about to "clean out" the residue, than I added a half teaspoon of paste to it.

I forgot I was supposed to add an oil, but I'm drinking the turmeric kefir and honestly I can't taste any difference. Maybe my kefir is just really strong ( how I like it) but with no change in taste I can see how this would be easy for me to take in my kefir.

Okay, since we've already established that I'm forgetful, do you think it would be okay to premix in the healthy oil of my choice with the paste so that I just have to scoop it out and go? I'm thinking if I have to pull out two or three additional containers each time I'll just either forget something or quit doing it. The lady in the video said to take a milk, add the tumeric paste and a healthy oil. I'm not sure if the oil is necessary to make the turmeric/piperin absorb better or not. I have coconut oil, MCT oil, and cod Liver Oil ( lemon flavored ) Video lady suggested sesame oil or Udo's . What do you all do?

Yes, I think that would be fine. Having it sit with the oil for several days might even enhance the properties of turmeric, like an herbal extract or tincture.

Mixing it with coconut oil might make it solidify in the fridge...I think I'd use sesame or MCT.

Usually I just try to eat it before a meal or snack that contains some fat. But mixing oil into the jar sounds like a good idea to me.

Groovy, groovy. I'll just figure out how many servings of paste I have and add that many servings of MCT Oil, so it doesn't get solid.

I just spent money on Cod liver Oil, so I'm not ready to spend more for Udo's or special sesame. I've got plain sesame oil in the cabinet. I dunno. I think I'll use MCT.

Thanks for the Reply!! I'm on my Way! Yay!
(still need to get the DE)

So I bought some DE....had a tsp every day for 2 weeks. then 2 tsp for the next 2 weeks. then tbs the following two weeks....then I started to gag every time I had it....I even lowered the dose back to 1 tsp. So I stopped taking it.

Anyone else experience this? While I was taking it, it was great. notices less acne. more energy. Years ago I also gagged taking my vitamins every morning (so I stopped that too).

nanc--what are you mixing it with?

Have you tried drinking it with a straw?

(Personally, no; DE hasn't made me gag.)

I've tried mixing it with everything from water to tea to hot cocoa. I have not tried a straw. I'll give that a shot!

Now to go purchase straws....

The straw is good because you can kind of bypass your tongue, if you swallow quickly, so you skip the flavor and the texture. And if the smell is setting you off, your nose is farther away from the drink! A cup with a lid + the straw might be even better.

I read somewhere that someone was mixing into their yogurt. But it would work in anything, soup, gluc pudding... anything really...

Yogurt! What a great Idea. Honestly some of the fat free yogurts taste like they are made of dirt, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch! Add a bit of MCToil to help smooth it out...

I just got a new delivery of 2 kilos DE. It was leaking white powder. Funny looks from the delivery man.

I don't mind the taste of it but I mix it with a large glass of water. It's when I get near the bottom and it's grittier. I just chug it down but I won't say I like it. Is there an optimum time of day to take this stuff? I usually drink it in the evening about an hour before bed.

I finally finished steroids and anti vial meds, starting back on my dirt and other supplements today. The easiest way for me to drink it, is mixing some MIO with it. The grit doesn't gag me.

That's why I like drinking it with a straw; drinking it from the bottom, basically, prevents getting the grit at the end.

That's the time I take it, too.
I've tried taking it earlier in the day but it made me sleepy...that was a long time ago, though!

Calling all dirt sisters:
The only thing I can find (except for a 50lb bag of DE!) is Red Lake Earth, which contains both DE and Montmorillonite (which sounds like bentonite).
Is this stuff safe to ingest? It says it's safe for dogs.
PJ? Anyone? I'm excited about getting on the dirt bandwagon.

I started with the Red Lake Earth and I am still alive. I will tell you that the white kind is easier for me to get down though. I figured if my chickens could consume it and live, it was safe for me.

Yes, I've taken RLE. Had good results with it, but, as adi says, it's not as easy to get down as the Permaguard type. It's not bad, though; just a little grittier.

Can you get stuff from Amazon--do they ship to Canada? There are much smaller amounts available there!

Some people take montmorillonite as a supplement (like bentonite clay, as you mention), so you could look at it as getting a 2-for-1 deal!

Thanks Adi and PJ. I'm okay with grit. And the American amazon ships some things but not others our way. The Canadian amazon is a pared down version of yours and is unlikely to be in the dirt business.
I'll make my way through this little bag. So excited.
Thanks.

Been eating dirt for a month now. I put a small shot of v-8 fusion in a glass, then add some water and put the dirt in that. I can't drink it just in water. I keep mixing as I drink to keep from getting all the grit in the last sip (sip, mix, sip, mix, etc).

Sleeping good, hair seems a bit healthier, lots of little wispies growing around my hairline. Regular every morning. Haven't really noticed any fading of the few age spots I have.

I suppose to really know what it's done I should stop taking it for a month. But I'm not going to.

I have done the dirt for over a year now so I am absolutely one of the dirt sisters! I still brush my teeth with it too. I don't mind the grit one little bit. I just mix it in a little water and chug it down.

I started taking it for vanity purposes. I read that it helps avoid liver spots, age spot, sun spots, whatever you want to call those ugly old brown spots. I also started taking it due to the claims of lowering cholesterol so dramatically. I haven't had my lipid panels done since then, so I don't know the results, but knock on wood-- so far no liver spots!

My girlfriend, who is 5 years younger than me, went to lunch with me yesterday and then we stopped at the mall for her to get her Clinique bonus. She was talking about using their product to work on two large brown spots she has on her face. She said the product faded them in color, but did not eradicate them. I so so so so so hope the dirt keeps me from getting any, especially on my face!!

Beverly, I've got them on my face, so I'm crossing my fingers. Just brushed my teeth with dirt for the first time. Loved the feeling. And, man, did it ever make me laugh when I spit it out afterwards. We'll never see that on a tv commercial.
