Okay, so I bet I missed a new thread, I thought I'd post anyway just because I wanted to say thanks for the really good postings, straight no-guff-matter-of-fact information . . . l looked for the JUDDD WOE info and found myself back here again . . . LCF is just so informative that no matter how hard I try to find information elsewhere, it's always here!

Historically I'm no stranger to LCF I lost 50lbs with Atkins '72 but gained it all back through lifestyle and a brush with cancer (I thought I'd eat what I want when I wanted - I ate my way through continents based on national dishes! lol) I'm in remission now and think that life is deffo worth living but a little lighter . . . I have read a little on this WOE and trust enough of you to know that this can work, I love these recipes and the photos, although this 'food porn' description is new to me and will take some getting used to!

I have a question, do I need to buy the book? So far everything here seems to make sense, the 'pirate' lady had some simple modifications to meet her needs. Is it really as simple as 2000/500 (ave)?

Please forgive me,, but i just need to
Loving Judd & I'm really trying hard to be good & eat healthy especially on DDs, but i'm no baker (need to learn I guess), likes convenience food as I live alone, on a budget & a confessed carboholic...(does a cookie monster impression)

Today is a DD for me, Im doing induction & like to have the odd shake..I usually have a Slimfast choccie shake when i'm dieting,
1~ It satisfies my choccie urge (can almost pretend its a McD shake..sad I know)
2 when I dont feel like eating I can usually get one down
3~ its cheaaaap bought last 5 or so tins half price @ various supermarket offers, but its 35g carbs mostly sugar tho sigh & although they sell a LC version in the US.. you just cant get it here.
As I'm trying to keep my DD carbs under 30g & 100 on UD.. slimfast is out, so I bought a couple of RTD atkins shakes.. I'd forgotten how horribly chemical they tasted, I'm not keen on the sweeteners they use either & @ £2 each kinda expected more.. messed up a good DD (sigh).
Why is it so hard to get reasonably priced LC products in the UK or even a nice range at all.. is it the same in the rest of Europe & Australia etc? Why is the fat in low fat products just replaced with sugar? even trying to find a decent LC yogurt is hard. Online low carb stores are so expensive.. understandably so as they import a lot from the US
With diabetes on the increase you would think they would make it easier to find low carb products to improve your health.
Maybe its just too much to ask to get reasonably priced low carb versions of my favourite foods

Unfortunately for me.. even though there are lots of wonderful recipes on here most I cant try, I have a bag load of allergies so I'm a bit wary of trying new stuff like flaxseed & gluc.. possible nut allergy, coconut is suspect too so leaving them all out till I get tested

Dee it is tough when you are watching carbs and have allergies too.

I no longer count carbs and happily I don't have any serious health issues. I so agree about the increase in diabetes, there is a horribly casual attitude to the causes of that.

Making your own yogurt is a great idea. I did that for years when I lived overseas. Fresh fruit and the sweetener of your choice, and you're on to a winner.

I think the Gluc and CO are likely to be fine but if in doubt get tested first.

None of us can know what the others are experiencing, or exactly why they choose the foods they do. Hope you can make this work for you. Good luck combining LC and JUDDD. I did that for around 3 weeks then introduced carbs, for me it worked. But I am me and you are you. Hang in there. You'll do fine.

Lou, I enjoyed the book, although many of us don't agree with all he says. I would say use real foods not shakes to get you going. Look at the DD stickies here for ideas. And always start with an UD, preferably one where eat your favourite foods. This should start you off well nourished and remind you of the joys of UDs to come.

Of course the US foks use lots of stuff hard to get here. The only thing I buy that is hard to find are the Shiritake Noodles. Living in London I don't have to get them on the net. But I don't use them that often, and these days, I prefer to use cabbage or spring greens in their place.

I never really got on with vlcd & tried it a few times & lose weigh but never for long. It sounds good but having dieted most of my life & failed the low fat concept is still tattoed across my brain.
I'm eating twice the protein & fat than normal on UD while trying to eat moderate carbs to get my cals in & I'm really trying to break my junk carb habit. I think i was born a carb junkie, cant cope without bread.. I'm sure my first words were toast & biccies.. might have been those farleys rusks hehe I do intend to add more carbs slowly after my july induction, But want to get the cravings under control first.
I have to be realistic if i want to do Juddd on a long term basis.. better carbs rather than no carbs & the ability to stop at 1 or 2 biccies or 1 muffin etc while keeping good nutrition.
Once my tests are done I should be able to broaden my food choices (fingers crossed)
