I'm jumping on the popcorn bandwagon-- probably just on the occasional UD, and Sunday is going to be one, AND I'm going to see the new MIB movie (and sneak in my own popped corn, buahahahahaha!)

I just bought some organic newman's own popcorn (light butter flavor) and it says 3.5 cups is about 120 cal, so I popped a bag to measure-- I think a full bag with as much popped as possible without burning is 7 cups or so... so that's 240 cal (about 30g net carbs) for a full bag of lightly salty popcorn.

Not bad for a sometimes treat (as cookie monster now says about cookies...).

And I was reading in another thread, I might find some 100cal bags of kettlecorn, b/c I do like that salty/sweet thing too...

did I mention that since today is an UD, and I needed to figure all this out (in the name of accuracy and science of course) I made (and burned) and ate a bag?

the mildly burned kernels tasted a wee bit like roasted marshmellows

You know, I've been adding a tablespoon of coconut oil to my smoothies lately....I could just as easily use that to pop corn with. I'm starting to shy away from the microwave and already prefer organic whenever possible so it's the old stove top method for me. Organic *should not* be GMO.

I make popcorn in the microwave, but not like most do!

Take a brown paper "lunch bag" , put in 1/4 cup popocorn, fold about 1/2 inch down from top of bag, staple in 2 places, micro about 3 - 4 minutes until popping is done! Great popcorn!! Add salt and anything else you like!

I usually melt some butter for it

Will never buy the micro popcorn again as this is so much better!

Doesn't the metal in the staples make your microwave freak out?

You don't even need the staples, one fold over and it stays just fine without the fear of staples.

I eat popcorn on DDs and UDs...I love it. Sometimes I just measure out 2 cups of smart food (white cheddar) which is 140 calories.

My kids love popcorn so much that I buy the micro kind even tho I think it's probably not that good for them. I think I'll have to find some brown bags, that seems healthier.

The Newman's one I bought at whole foods was organic... the jolly time 100 cal bag ones I bought at a local supermarket aren't... one is light butter and the other is kettle corn (which I promptly burned when I tried it-- stupid smaller bags ).

I'm not eating this every day, and for me, on DDs, I want to eat my calories in meat (usually) and veggies, but on UD's, it's nice to know I can have some, and how much is in a bag, etc.

I have an air popper, b/c when I send homemade cookies etc in the mail, I like to pack them in plain air-popped corn as packing! Works great, and I don't feel bad about the environment (eat the packing, throw it out, feed it to the birds, whatever...).

I have some orville reddenbocker kernels that don't seem to be made for the air popper though! they come FLYING out when I use them, it's like I'm under attack! Can't wait to use them up and get some NORMAL kernels
