Newbie here with a question
Well, I haven't started yet...am on my 4th round of hhcg and my goal is 140. I was reading the JUDD site last night and had a question about the two-week induction period:
"The two-week induction phase is the most restrictive part of the Johnson UpDayDownDay Diet™ but is necessary to activate the body's genetic response to alternate-day calorie restriction. To begin experiencing the many benefits from "turning on" your SIRT1 gene, it is important to limit yourself to no more than 500 calories on Down Days during this period. Prepackaged diet shakes and bars from Slim Fast®, Atkins®, and other companies can help make sure that you don't go above 500 calories on Down Days during these two weeks." It would be a breeze for me to eat 500 calories every other day considering I've been eating 500 calories every day on hhcg. When I transition to JUDD and doing the 500 calories on alternate days, will I continue to lose weight? I don't want to wither away to noting! Also, what did you eat on your UP days during the induction phase? I was thinking of keeping it mainly which is why I'm asking about weight loss. When I eat LC, the pounds always fly off. Additionally, I am doing an interruption day this Saturday so we can go to our favorite sushi place, or I can make today my last day on hhcg. I realize it will set me back a few pounds, but I think I'll do it this way so I can move on and get to goal. TIA! This is a wonderful board and I'll be joining you all very soon...I'm on a mission.

Most of us start with real food, not shakes and bars, but it's up to you how you want to reach your 500 calories. The great thing about JUDDD is that it doesn't matter what food choices you make as long as you follow your calorie limits. If you feel well eating LC, by all means, keep it LC! Or eat your favorite sushi every other day!
![]() It's entirely possible for you to continue losing. If you want to maintain, make sure you check out the JUDDD calculator to figure out what your maintenance numbers look like, try them out, and you can always adjust higher or lower depending on how it goes. And most of all, . . . . !

Welcome Violet! Congrats on the great weight loss!
![]() I am another low carber that switched to JUDDD and I think the main thing to know is it doesn't matter what foods you eat, but if you are transitioning from low carb and start adding in carbs you will gain. Even if you are doing the JUDDD to the "t". I have lost well on JUDDD and steady until I upped my carbs! It set me back a bit. Just thought I would warn you because my average carb intake on 1700 cals is about 75-85 gr. I was enjoying my steady losses and raised my carbs this week to 120ish and blam blew my losses to bits. HOWEVER, I will never go back to any other WOE, because JUDDD is the real deal! ![]()

I did real food too. If you start JUDDD now, a few pounds from goal, plan on doing the 500 cal DD's and whatever numbers you get for UD's. You can handle carbs a few different ways--just stay lc forever, stay lc until sirt-1 kicks in, then gradually begin adding them back a little at a time, add them back all at once, expect the gain as your muscles and tissues refill with water, and go from there.
You will find all levels of carb consumption here, from vlc to sort of low, to moderate, to high. My body does best around 100-120g with very little from grains or sugar. When I first started I was more around 40-70g (that's for an UD). I follow a paleo woe, because it fits with what I've learned about food and my body likes it. I tried experimenting by adding more grains/sugars and found it increased cravings, stopped my weight loss, and played havoc with my blood sugar readings. Welcome! Maintenance on JUDDD is WONDERFUL! I'm currently trying to lose a couple more pounds so went back to 500 cal DDs, but in maintenance, I have 850-900 cal DD's and 1500-1600 UD's. That is VERY livable for the long term.

also of note, you don't have to have non fat on your down days like you do with hcg, and a little fat is a blessing on those days. easy to stick to down days with real food once you have done hcg.

This is great info-- I'm a low-carber since 2003, and the first time around I lost 60lbs, but in the time since, with cheats and carb creep and you know all the regular excuses, I gained it back.
I've been sticking to 20g or less and 1500-1700 calories, but I still have trouble with the occaisional meal out, etc. So I'm wondering if trying JUDDD would work for me. I get itchy if I eat too much HC food for too long (i.e. a 2 week vacation where I eat whatever I want just makes me into a total mess). All this to say-- I'm going to get the book and keep reading about this, but it's good to know that you can LC and JUDDD at the same time. Does anyone get migraines? any positive/negative effects on the DD's from that? Thanks! Soren |

I get horrible migraines, but they've been a bit better the last couple of years. I haven't really noticed any increase or decrease in the number or severity of my migraines while on JUDDD.

As for coming here after HCG, there are a few here that are doing p3 and I don't want to speak for them, but I know at least one had not noticed a gain (which is common during p3). I hope more of them answer your question! I have done hcg and I really encourage you to try this WOE. I think you will like it a lot! |

Thank you all so much! Do any of you know if the 500 calories every other day will produce weight loss? I love fat and will get started soon.
