Going out to dinner tonight...
Having a great up day so far...but a little scared of dinner tonight. Going to a Chinese buffet with family and Im afraid I might go over in my calories. I think that's where I'll have my biggest problems...going to a non chain restaurant and not knowing how to count the calories. Anyone have any suggestions? I know JUDD is forgiving, but I'm trying to do this by the book since Im just in week 3 and seeing good results.

I always fill up on salad and veggies, then estimate portions on the other stuff and add it up as I go. I have ************ on my phone, so I'm sure I look weird sitting at the table tallying up my food before I eat it, but it's better than finding out later that I went way over.

And its probally best if you can save your days calories for that meal.. so durring the day today only eat what you must so ya dont fall over
Then you can eat with confidence later tonight.. chosing veggys, fruit and proteins.. IMO thats how i would do a UD with unknow caloire in a meal on being at it for 3 weeks!!! PLUS remember ..JUDDD is forgiving!! THIS one meal wont ruin 3 great weeks you have put in... Enjoy life.. food.. family and special time out..The task of weight loss will continue with your next DD rotation!!

Yes, I usually try to eat little during the day and then just make the best choices I can at the Chinese buffet, sort of estimating calories as I go along. For example, so many calories for a portion of meat and veggies, and throw in extra calories for the sauce clinging to it. Not everyone would want to be so casual as that and I'm in maintenance too, but that's how I tend to do it.
I fill up on lots of the veggies (I could eat my weight in those crisp green beans! lol) and some leaner meats and have a treat or two like some of the lo mein noodles and the fortune cookie. If you do have any of the carby stuff there, expect some water gain on the scale, but it may or may not happen. Hope you have a good time! ![]()

Started JUDDD 10/12/11 after LC. MAINTENANCE since 11/12/11, & have lost more weight. I shake things up all the time with my version of Pirate Jenny's MUDDD, my "Fast 5" & other IF. ...low-moderate fat....and eating "healthy" foods 75+% of the time which lets me have real life and indulgences too |

Can you order a meal? Or is it only buffet? I've been to both kinds... I've also gotten the mongolian BBQ if they have that, since I can load up on veggies and lean meats and choose my own cooking sauce.
I just hate wasting money on a buffet, only to eat a normal portion...seems like a rip off. I'd also hate to pay mucho $$$ for a plate of salad. If you have to eat buffet, I'd get what you want and limit yourself to one plate and a salad or grilled veggies. I think that makes the most sense. |

my daughter and i go to a chinese buffet often. heres a few tricks. order a water with your normal. Drink as much as u can (atleast half the glass) before going up to the food. Start out with a soup and something light looking like veggies, oysters, etc. Your next trip up do samples one of this one of that. You will start feeling full before you will finish your sample plate! Daughter and I do this for any buffet really, they are so easy to get carried away with!

Like the others, I save my calories for that meal. Also I drink lots of water before I go to feel full and I have sparkling water with dinner. The little bubbles make you feel full. I concentrate on loading more with vegetables than anything else. Closely limit the fried things like egg rolls. I am sure you will do great. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the great advice
I've been pretty stingy with my calories today, and I burned off quite a few at Curves this afternoon. I'll load up on the veggies and then try a lil of this and a lil of that! And I wont forget to drink my water ![]() |

Veggies, fruits and stay away from the heavy brown sauces or things in cream like sauces.

Thanks for asking Sterlinggirl! Dinner was great, had a nice big glass of water, loaded up on the yummy green beans, had a lil bit of rice and some chicken with broccoli. Sampled alot of other things...was great because even if I did go over my calories a lil bit, I didnt feel the guilt I used to when I overdid my carbs. Letting go of all that and just enjoying my food more while paying more attention to my portion sizes.
