It doesn't taste as good as I remember...

I call bull

We always see "oh it just doesn't taste as good as I remember" when someone eats something they used to love.
(Blame Beeb - her easter candy thread made me think about this )

What DOES taste as good as you remember, since nothing is off limits on juddd?

Fast food fries; strawberry ice cream; jamocha almond fudge ice cream (baskin robbins); dense artisan breads.

Funny though, since I can have them, I don't do the "crave and cave" thing and binge on them

Oh, My.. I haven't had Jamocha Almond Fudge for so long. That is my absolute favorite ice cream IN THE WORLD!!!!! Our BR ice cream shoppes around here all closed. I'm so sad. I tried to eat enough to keep them in business. So now I only get an ice cream from there when we travel.

But the artisan breads? Yes. Those also taste as fabulous, fabulous, fabulous as they always did. I never, ever don't have several breads in my kitchen. And since they don't have any preservatives, they don't *stay* as long, not long enough for us to finish all the loaves, but the birds and squirrels and deer, etc. around here like the chunks I toss along the back garden.

And it is a very strange thing that on JUDDD, those cravings that used to plague us go away, and we can eat in moderation, enjoy anything in the world, and not go overboard. Yay! We're eating like real, regular, normal people always used to eat. For me I think a lot of it is eating quality foods and going awfully light on crap foods. Regardless of the carb count, and regardless of whether there is grains or sugars in it.

But, I do have to admit, I now have a little longing for a Jamocha Almond Fudge cone.

Yeah, I totally call bull on anyone who said cadbury eggs didn't taste great anymore. Say Whhhhaaaaat?!?

There are a few things though that I think have gone down hill since my childhood...but they are probably the same, I just didn't have such discerning tastebuds.

One that comes to mind is Baskin Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Used to be one of my favorites, but the last few quarts I've gotten have been weird - like full of air and icy...not creamy and rich. Sad. Doesn't melt the way it used to either (I like it kinda melty....)

I'll think of more...there are a few out there that have saddened me.

Thought of more: Rice-a-roni broccoli au gratin rice (still good, but not like eat the whole box good), kraft mac and cheese (i'll make real mac and cheese...just as easy and much better), and Mcdonald's hamburgers (I still like them, but they are kinda meh...and I usually end up with a tummy ache after eating one).

NOW I am super hungry.
I've been holding off on baguette with fig butter for the outdoor Shakespeare under the stars season to start. That is my fave picnic food. With two or three bottles of wine. And some assorted cheeses. And some quinoa pasta with anchovy onion butter sauce. And blackberry trifle drunk on infused vodka.
I always take enough food for six, even though there are two of us. Needless to say, play nights will be on UD!

I loved my cadbury egg last week, in spite of it being US not UK. the difference is huge.

Start Date: April 25, 2011
It has been over a year since I've eaten whatever I wanted with the exception of my 6 load days, 2 before each round of hcg and even then I didn't eat whatever I wanted. Anyway... since JUDDDing I've had chili WITH beans and og sweet corn in it, and my FAVORITE Easter candy.... Cadbury caramel egg AND Cadbury cream egg... YUMMY!

OH.... and popcorn!!! I know that might sound weird but I did LC between each of my hcg rounds so popcorn was not eaten... it still tastes YUMMY when made in coconut oil, slathered with butter and sprinkled with sea salt!!

Plaster of Paris in the bun? What? Are you serious?

As for the C. egg...I've asked for the UK people here to send me some. No one took me up on it!

I remember when Creme Eggs first came out. I wanted to try one so bad - the commercials with the bunny making the chicken sounds! lol. Anyway, I was in first grade and our class was having an Easter party. While we had our treats, I remember watching the teacher and her aid share a Creme Egg. Despite seeing the cool commercials on TV, it was the first time I'd see one in real life. I remember the gooey filling as they divided the egg in half and pulled it apart.

I still think the creme eggs were bigger back then, and that Cadbury may have changed the recipe for the US since the early days (made it of lesser quality now). Guess I'll have to buy some to try again and see what I think!

They were bigger! Wikipedia says so too...so it must be true. The UK ones are supposedly still a bit bigger than ours at 180 cals per pop instead of 150. Either way. I STILL LOVE THEM!

People say that when they see it, but I have fed it to dozens of dinner guests over the years (who claim to hate anchovies) without disclosure and every single one thinks its the best pasta they have ever eaten. It is seriously addicting.

Bagels!! I love Bagels! I get the Carb Krunchers so they fit in my day pretty well.

There are many things I have found that I just don't "want" anymore. They truly DON'T taste as good as I remember!!

However, I have found that many things taste BETTER to me now!! Like fresh berries, sauteed zucchini without any butter! I truly enjoy a lot of the more healthy foods more now! Packaged salmon on a cracker! YUM! Love the freshness of it.

Awesome thread!

I'd love the recipe for the anchovy/onion/butter pasta!! I love caesar salad w/ lots of anchovy and garlic.

BREAD. Bread is the best thing ever. Thick and chewy fresh bread with, like a, slab of Kerrygold butter.

I love that someone mentioned Rice-a-roni. I haven't had that in at least 10 years. I might make some coming up to share with my kids, I think they'd like it. Rice-a-roni, thick grilled pork chops, and broccoli. I think I know what's for dinner tomorrow,

Kroger had the 3-pack on sale, and I bought 1 of the original and one of the chocolate, which I've never had. I think I will reserve 1 egg of each flavor for myself and give the rest to the boys. Yeah, that's the plan.

I love all of that stuff too!!!!! PLUS, all of the other stuff as well.

Today I decided to give us our big meal at midday, so sauteed cabbage with butter and herb/garlic cheese, roasted cauliflower w/olive oil & garlic, buttered sweet potato, buttered corn, roasted chicken, raisin pecan artisan bread, and we even had - for the first time in over a year - a baby chocolate soft serve cone when we ran errands.

Since JUDDD I've been able to eat everything. I sure do enjoy it. But I haven't had a Cadbury Egg yet. I will hold off on that treat until a little closer to Easter.
