Put on a big pot of salted water to boil for the pasta
In a deep skillet Heat together: 3 tablespoons each butter and evoo Cook over medium/low: 2 large onions chopped fairly small 2 cloves garlic minced until the onions almost dissolve Stir in and cook for another minute or two: 1 tsp raw or brown sugar Add in: 1 x 1.76oz can anchovy fillets in olive oil (don’t drain, chop finely) Stir in until the anchovies sort of dissolve (not long) Then stir in until combined: 1-2 tablespoons cut up cold butter and pinch of ground mace or allspice(don’t overdo it) same of freshly grated nutmeg Add in: half cup plain almond milk or if feeling decadent quarter cup each heavy cream and water Cook to al dente once water boils: one pound of choice of pasta (I love big fat quinoa elbows) reserving a cup of the pasta water when draining – you will need some to loosen the sauce Add hot pasta into sauce, adding pasta water as needed to loosen up the sauce so the noodles fill with sauce (not runny) Stir in 1 large handful parsley chopped Probably doesn’t need salt at all, you may want a grind of fresh cracked pepper on top

Well, I was one of the ones who said that the Speckled Malted Milk Eggs don't taste as good as I remembered, and I'll stand by it, lol. I actually threw the rest of the bag away when I realized I was forcing myself to eat them!
Now, as far as the stuff that DOES taste as good as I remembered, I can probably say "all of the above and then some". ![]() |

I have really been wanting a Whataburger which I used to love and haven't had in YEARS. I can work the calories into my menu tomorrow. I could justify it by saying I am doing research to see if they still taste as good. Might as well add a small fry. Total calories would be 940 for lunch. A light breakfast and light dinner would be worth it. I will report back on the whataburger.

I have discovered a passionate love for Ovaltine!
(The plain malt, not the chocolate.) Yesterday I made a low carb DD cereal by breaking up fiber crackers into milk, with Ovaltine mixed in! So good! And only 20 calories in a tablespoon, which was plenty of flavor & sweetness. Today I put it my coffee w/cream. ![]() ETA: But, honestly, the title of this thread made me want to complain: I occasionally buy a cake or donuts for my son & his friends, and they taste terrible to me. Not fresh, moist, or buttery enough, ever. I only like my own baking--lol--but I don't have an oven in my tiny "house"! ![]()

White Layer Cake with Coconut Cream Icing!!
OMG, I love this and always wanted to eat it while LCing. When I started JUDDD it was the first thing I made for an UD dessert and it tasted just like I remembered!! ![]() Everything taste just as good as I remembered and anyone who says (in my opinion and what I use to say also ) that it doesn't is only trying to fool themselves!! What really tempts me are the candies - the JELLY BEANS. Darn it all to heck! I never really paid any attention to any of the pastel boxes and bags lining the grocer's shelves this time of year, but this time I looked. Almost all the old candy companies are making jelly beans in flavors of their regular candies. They got Smarties jelly beans, Hot Tamales jelly beans, Starburst jelly beans... I resisted. For now. ![]() |

Yesterday on UD, I bought a whole bag of black jelly beans. Normally I would eat the whole bag. I counted out 16, and was quite satisfied. I gave the bad to DH and told him they were all his. He said to me "You should have bought me my own bag". I told him the bag was his, because that was all I was going to eat. This is a huge thing for me to give those away. I am satisfied now until next year.
I have not really tried other things yet. I did buy the grand kids Easter candy and really don't care about that. I think things are changing already. Dawn |

can't read this today
OK!!! I know on DDs we say I cannot eat this today but I can eat it tomorrow when faced with something tempting.
Today is a DD for me and I'm doing really, really well and it's 8 p.m. I never thought I would be saying "I cannot READ this today but I can read it tomorrow." ![]() ![]() ![]() Started reading this great thread and got to about the 4th post or so when I noticed my mouth filled with saliva (something like pizza on top of all the others already mentioned) and drool was about to run out of the side of my moutn!! ![]() So, just wanted you to know I will read this thread tomorrow. I had to stop myself from thinking of all the things that taste even better than I remember!...going to go drink more water and suck on a lemon..... ![]() ![]() ![]()

I want recipes for everything b_lou posted.....all sounds incredible!!!! And a nice sounding event as well.
I'm one of those that some things just don't taste as good. I don't enjoy french fries like I used to. Or bread (except for really *good* bread). Even some ice creams. I think it's more like I'm more particular. Before I would eat any and all kinds of ice cream. Now, it has to be *good* ice cream or I can easily pass it up. Same with pancakes. No mediocre cakes for me, but something cooked right and tasty, bring 'em on! LOL If I'm going to use up the calories it needs to be good and what I want and will truly enjoy. |
