Cool whip?
As a little topping for a down day oat fiber muffin or Beep's pumpkin pie.
I usually only use whole foods but my husband wants a topping for these deserts and whipped heavy cream is too high cal for dd's. I tried fat free cream cheese mixed with sugar free chocolate syrup for the muffin but he didn't like it.He's not a Greek yogurt fan either so that won't work as a topping. I know cool whip has high fructose corn syrup but I do know he'll like it. Tryng to weigh up the value of making the deserts more palatable for my husband keeping cals lower using some non whole foods vs staying pure and staying fatter. Or will the HFCS halt weight loss despite allowing for a low cal topping? What say all you Judders? |

I use it occasionally and only a couple of tablespoons at a time. I haven't noticed it being a problem but I did notice the fat free gave me cravings and the low-fat did not. Probably and individual thing.

Yikes! I don't eat hydrogenated stuff either but honestly NEVER thought to look at cool whip! We don't have it often (maybe 4 times a year) but I just never knew. Only the real thing from now on. LOL
But hey.....if your dh doesn't mind, go for it! Mine eats all sorts of stuff I wouldn't touch saying once he gets the weight off he'll look for healthier options. Right now, he's just looking at what tastes good and fills him up without too many calories. |

I'm looking at it like the healthiest thing I can do for him right now is help him get these last ten or so pounds off so his BP can hopefully normalize. If that involves a tablespoon or two of cool whip in an otherwise natural diet, I consider it a good trade off to keep him happy.
I ended up buying some today and fat free redi whip. Surprisingly, he really liked the redi whip and only 5 cals per serving. Last edited by fixin; 03-25-2012 at 07:46 PM.. |

My dh prefers the canned stuff too. And it keeps longer than an open tub of cool whip, esp. if you don't use much very often, so there's less temptation to use it up before it goes bad.

I adore Cool Whip, but I did switch to Redi-Whip because of the hydrogenated oils. Now I adore Redi-Whip.
