All this talk about CO makes me want to add it back into my diet. I cut it almost completely when I started counting calories (except for when I need oil for cooking). I think I'll start adding it to my smoothies.
Cindy....my mother was British (war bride) and we were fortunate to be able to visit her family every few years as I was growing up. We'd go and stay for a month at a time. Loved it. Clotted cream, scones, lemon curd, crumpets, and Digestive Biscuits are just some of my favorite foods. Yum. I tried for years to make my own crumpets and could never get them right. I'd find them now and then at some import shops but not often. Then last year I found a local store carrying them (Trader Joe's if anyone is interested....they are authentic! LOL) and now my children are loving them. The digestive biscuits I have to hoard for myself though.....they are hard to come by. LOL |

I use coconut strictly for my skin. I use it as a moisturizer, face wash and primer. I like to whip it and then add a little bit of essential oils to it for the bathroom when I shower. It is nice when it is whipped and so much easier to use when it is at room temperature.
I no longer use neosporin and use it strictly on cuts. It will clear up any redness within a few hours. I have my DD19 using it on her face and skin. It worked clear up her acne so much better than using Proactive. I also tan when I am using it. My face gets a nice tan color not red like usual. My rosacea is under control since I use it. I no longer have blotchy skin. I am sure that has something to do with no sugar in my diet. My dogs love it and if they hear me opening the container to it they come running. I have a hard time eating it because the taste and consistency gags me. It was ok in coffee but I had a hard time with the oil slick on the top of the coffee. My lips, however, loved it.

I like to use it for oil pulling too. My teeth have been feeling sensitive lately so thanks for the reminder!
I actually don't think I've ever cooked with it. Eggs and coconut sounds but that's because I wouldn't want eggs tainting the taste of the coconut. I love coconut and think it's really healthy, not just in oil form.I do like CO for skin, but I tried it on my face one day and it seeped into my hair and I was greasy the whole day. too much maybe? It's great on cuticles!I've also read very good things about red palm oil. It has lots of vitamin a and e (good for the skin). I've seen really good results with it. The only thing is, it's not as yummy as the coconut oil. ![]()

Oh, but the magic of standing on the Acropolis wondering 'Who stood here so long ago? What words of wisdom or wit, words I grew up hearing, were first spoken right here where I am standing now?' My descendants may think the same things while standing in Bull Dog country, but I fear I am a Georgia Tech fan myself.
A strong fleshed fish, dusted with flour, salt, and pepper then quickly sauteed in EVCO tastes wonderful! |

I cook my eggs in coconut oil and have never noticed them tasting or smelling like coconut. Been doing that for years now.

unless I'm doing a facial, I get just the right amount of coconut oil for my face by spreading it on other parts of my body and what's left clinging to my hands/fingers is just enough for my face without being too much. I just rub my hands on my face at the end to put a nice fine layer on. up to half an hour later it's all soaked in.

You can also use it as a face wash in the shower before you wash your hair so if any gets in your hair it gets washed out. If you use it as a face wash it works really nice to get makeup off and once you are done you can splash your face with some cold water to close the pores.

about this because I love this in my coffee and have been avoiding it because of the calorie usage. Also, will 1 teaspoon still give us the benefit of coconut oil or do we need to use at least 1 TBS, as I have read? Thanks for the info! ![]() |

It is beneficial whether you choose to use 1 tsp or 3 TBLSP. Dr. Dukan would call that a 78% SDA, by the way. In Dukan's book, he lists the Specific Dynamic Action of different food groups. For instance, lean protein has an SDA of 30%. What that means in, protein is such a high energy producer and sustainer and it is so complicated for the body to process and extract all the nutrients from it, that for every 100 calories of lean protein you eat it "costs" your body 30 calories to process it. That's why I think protein is such a great buy food wise. I count the calories! All of them! But I know when I'm choosing something like fat free, plain Greek yogurt, I have an automatic calorie deficit of 30% built right in. !! Wooooo-Hooooo! Dr. Oz says that if you have up to 3 TBLSP of EVCO in a day, all of it will be used as energy and none of it will be stored as fat. Yes, it has calories. But because of how quickly it is sent right to the liver and the fact that it raises energy levels within the body and then rushes through the blood stream to get to the brain and other organs for nourishment, those calories get used up very quickly. I still count the calories! And, there are not that many in only 1 teaspoon. There are 120 in a tablespoon. There are 3 teaspoons in a Tablsp. So, 40 calories for a good healthy fat (oh, and some of it is sent to the intestines to assist in keeping them clean and shiny!) Then, if you want to consider that it has an SDA of 78%, well, not many left to count!

I started oil pulling with coconut oil this morning. My teeth did feel cleaner! I'll try doing this for a while and see if it agrees with me.

I just did the oil pulling for the first time today. I lasted all of 20 mins!!! I am so happy and it was sooo easy. I can do this. My gums are receeding pretty badly, so this should help with the sensitivity. I used my expeller pressed coconut oil--hope that doesn't make a difference in how it works. Still has the benefits of the virgin coconut oil.
