Thank you all! I learned long ago I'm a better walker than runner. I've walked 5k races, 10k races and I was almost last coming in on the Bay to Breakers but I didn't care because I was so happy to finish. I'll just keep strolling along JUDDD Lane. I don't need to win, just to finish. I'm glad you're all here to share your journeys.

With all of our rains, I see a lot of turtles crossing the roads (or trying to) on my way to work and back home. Now everyone I see reminds me that I am not in a weight loss race. Slow and steady gets the best results. (in my opinion of course)

So you're not really *dieting*. You're just following the normal rhythm of how you eat now, higher days, lower days, one following the other around the days and weeks of the year. And while you're doing your thing on the outside by how you eat now, your body is doing its thing on the inside and returning to normal.

Easy Peasy!
I think the thing that really helped me see this as just fluctuations in a normal eating plan, rather than a diet, somebody's post about how our UDs are our days for eating normally. It's not feasting and then fasting... rather it's eating normally, and then eating less. That really helped me get out of the "I can eat as much as I want; it's an UD!" mindset that had me binging in my second month of JUDDD.

I also remember reading about change management that if you said things like "On Mondays and Wednesdays I work out" it would have more impact than saying "I want to work out twice a week". I've tried to incorporate that into JUDDD: "On Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, I eat a normal amount. On Tuesdays Thursdays and Sundays, I restrict calories. On Friday, I can have a couple drinks." It's been very helpful.

Considering how quickly the health improvements often appear - the way sometimes weight loss seems to stand in the wings waiting for healing to happen first - I would say this is a race we each win when we begin.

And we win again every day thereafter.

This has really stuck with me. I smiled when I got on the scale today. After an UD and MD it's not up too much from my new low. I'm really losing weight and keeping it off. Long term. I'm really doing this! Not fast. But, "this is not a race."

Wouldn't it be horrible to be in a group like the Biggest Loser show and have to constantly compare yourself to others?? I would hate that.

I'm getting healthy. Since yesterday was a MD, I was tempted to make this a DD to try and "speed things up." Then I remembered the last time I tried it. I didn't have enough nourishment to get me through a DD and I failed miserably and went way over.

And, why would I want to "speed things up?" This is not a race! I'm doing this for me. I'm getting healthy and thinner for me. Because I want to. I don't have an ominous "get skinny by...." date on the calendar. At the end of each month, I just would like to weigh less than I did the month before.

Without suffering.

Yes, I'm too old to suffer. That's why I no longer wear high, high heels.

So glad I finally got a brain and abandoned the quick fix mentality. I read on another forum a while back where someone said her mom told her that in her 20's she went on this fad diet that was popular and she lost 20 pounds in one day. Uh, duh, I'm not sure I believe that?

Anyway, gone are the days when I long for a quick fix. I want to be healthy. I want to lose weight without suffering. And, thank the good Lord, this is not a race.

Any other happy Turtles out there?
Great post! I'm excited about the weight I've lost so far, but not stressing over the weight I still have to lose. I had a personal goal at the start to be at my goal weight by the day we put our sailboat in the water for the next season, which is Memorial Day 2013 That's 6.5 months to lose around 24 lbs-plenty of time to figure out JUDDD and get comfortable with it. And I'm feeling great! I love the JUDDD rotation and the freedom that comes with it
