Down day obstacle - wanting to snack while gaming

I'm a pretty hardcore gamer, just without the time I'd like to devote to it between school & parenting & life in general. I'm discovering that I associate snacking with playing. It's a pretty difficult urge to fight I'm finding. Has anyone else experienced similar, and what do you do to fight it?

I used to be the same way, and I found that having a glass of water next to me reallllly helped. Snacking while gaming was always a fairly mindless experience for me so drinking water satisfied that, "grab it and put it down while I'm in a killing monsters over and over zone" need. Sounds very boring and obvious, but it worked for me.

Make a small veggie dish and munch on that... Cut up baby carrots or jicama with some paprika and garlic salt... Tastes like potatos to me.

It actually sounds like a good opportunity to begin to DISASSOCIATE snacking from gaming...

However, to be honest, I have had a problem with habitually eating when on the computer, and I tend to drink a lot of hot beverages (tea, sugar free hot chocolate, etc) nowadays instead

Ah, the joys of learned habits.

Look for low- and zero-cal substitutes if you want to continue noshing while you play.

Or, I am reading Brain Over Binge right now. Although it's focus is on bulimia and binge eating, I find it applies to any learned habit that has proven to be less than optimal over time.

We're related? lol raids are the toughest for me. I started drinking more decaf coffee to take the edge off. But I keep some celery sticks and cucumber slices ready, too.
I also try to leave some calories for almonds (even if I go over a little, they're a healthy snack).

Blue Diamond wasabi soy ones in the 100 calorie packs are my "go to" now. I love them and I'm glad they're pre-portioned.

OH I love those Wasabi ones.

I used to have the same problem, but with smoking. I'd get on the computer (way back in the dial up AOL chat rooms) and suddenly several hours would go bye and I'd have smoked at least a half of a pack. So I started changing the rules.

If I wanted a smoke, I had to go to the kitchen (and then eventually outside).

You can do the same with food. Food is only eaten at the kitchen table.

Summer, I completely understand and can relate. I used to snack nonstop while marathoning favorite tv shows or watching movies. It was so hard to stop. Every time I sit down to watch favorite shows, I'd be tempted to reach for the food. The wonderful thing about JUDDD is that it cured me of that type of mindless eating and eating that was associated with certain activities. It didn't happen overnight though, so I think the suggestions to replace that food you normally snacked on with water or tea or at least low cal veggies would help as well.

As an ex-smoker (7+ years smoke-free!), I've been through the exact same thing, which is why I realized the connection with my snacking and mindless eating. I had to put an end to it, and JUDDD gave me the means to do so.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm hoping to make the disassociation, it's just obviously going to take some time. The snacking was born from the fact you can't eat a meal & play like you can eat a meal & watch a movie/tv show, and who the heck wants to stop to eat?

I bought some hot tea, I just haven't tried it yet (completely forgot about it) so I'll give that a try. I actually measured out an ounce of chips last night at 160 cal, because I was going crazy. I still came in under 500 because I don't really feel the need to eat normally on a DD.

Hi Summer! What game is it you play?
I am a wow-head and used to snack continuously while trotting around which made it hard to control the mouse with greasy fingers.

Now I drink chicken or beef broth from a cup...it really hits the spot for me and on UP days I add a big ole splash of HWC.
