Advice please - back to back events in first 14 days...

So here I was, congratulating myself for EXCELLENT planning of my first two weeks of JUDDD. I have an event Saturday that is centered around food and wine. Pre-paid tickets and everything. I had scheduled DDs M/W/F this week so I thought I was set.

Well... I looked at my calendar and realized that I also have an event FRIDAY, also food and wine related. DD calories are running in the neighborhood of 550 but I have gone up to as much as 850 and am still doing ok (I am 44, 5'9", and exercise daily). Friday will be day 11 on JUDDD. So here is what I am thinking... Do my normal DD on Friday and try to stay as light on calories as I possibly can during the day--probably 200 or fewer. Friday night is a wine and oyster pairing. Eat light on the oysters (each is 20-40 calories) and drink VERY light on the wine. I expect I will come in somewhere in the neighborhood of 800-900 calories but I don't want to drink anything, even just a little wine on a completely empty stomach. Then I would have a regular UD on Saturday, maybe keeping the calories a little lower, and a regular DD Sunday.

Thoughts? I am really upset that I forgot and booked these two things back to back.

You know what? Life happens. And if you're considering JUDDD as a lifetime WOE to not only lose, but maintain your loss and stay healthy, these things are going to happen. I think your plan sounds good. Do you notice that being on JUDDD makes us accountable, though, so we're less likely to just say, "to heck with it?" And that's how we'll need to be FOR LIFE if we want to keep healthy. Your events sound fun. Lucky you!

There a couple of great threads w/ just your question. One is about MDs and another one is something like "what to do what DD turns into UD?"

Anyway, I learned something new from them. If you need to change your rotation, stick a MD (Medium Day) in. AND here is what I learned: The correct order is 1.DD 2.MD 3.UP

A MD is calculated by averaging your DD and UD together. So, add the 2 and divide by 2 and that would be your MD goal.

I've had to use MDs but didn't know there was a proper order. I always thought I should follow a MD w/ a DD but no, I learned that you NEED the UD to nourish you.

Anyway, I think you said Thursday will be a DD, right? So, just make Friday a MD and Saturday an UD and you are good!

Go have a great time at both events and when your DDs come around next week just do them well and you will be fine! Make Friday a MD and Saturday an UD and don't stress!

JUDDD forgives and it's made for how we live, every single day and every single event that makes life worth living!

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!!

Today and Friday are DDs, tomorrrow and Saturday, scheduled to be UDs. I woul have certainly done a MD if today had been an UD--Thursday DD, Friday MD, Saturday UD. But since today was a DD, tomorrow MUST be an UD, as I understand it. I read about medium days but had heard that you shouldn't do them if at all possible in the first two weeks. Are there any consequences to doing a medium day before 2 weeks in activating the gene? Does the two week count to activate SIRT1 start over? As it is, I'll probably end up with a UD (2000)/MD (900)/UD (2000) pattern. Probably not the worst thing. Open to suggestions if anyone has any. And really hoping for a nice loss tomorrow!

The gene will build up a little slower on MD; but it does not stop. Dr. J. says it actually becomes activated the very first time you skip a meal and that's when it starts to build.

Some people take longer than 2 weeks to have it operating at max. Some less. The worst that a MD will do is slow down loss a tad bit. However, you are at or almost at maintaining level, right?

You will be fine!! Don't over think this, Sweetie. As Beeb said, enjoy your life! That is what this WOE is about. And, a couple of DD rotations next week will cover a multitude of sins so to speak! Not that enjoying your Fri and Sat events would be any kind of a mis step. that's what JUDD is for! Living and enjoying life...and FOOD!

For Oysters and Wine - I'd just have a sensible day during the day - as you say a couple of hundred cals - and then enjoy dinner. I would then do the same the next day. Almost Intermittent Fasting style. You are maintaining - or very near to it - according to your stats - JUDDD can be truly forgiving. Enjoy!

What Vicky said.

The sirtuin genes that are activated on DD squwoosh enzymes into your body that hang around for days. Dr J speculates, after you are fully saturated it takes between 10 and 14 days for all the enzymes to go bye-bye.

Even after less than two weeks of rotation, you have a goodly amount of those enzymes. Enjoy heck out of your two special events then have a nice, normal DD. Any water weight that slips on will vanish very quickly.

Life happens. JUDDD makes handling that life SO much easier. I wish a wine and oyster pairing type life would happen to ME!!

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

I also find that two UDs in a row don't slow me down that much. But then, I have a lot to lose to begin with. If I do my normal DD-UD-DD-UD-DD-UD-MD rotation, my weekly average calories are around 1300/day. If those last three end up being DD-UD-UD, the weekly average is around 1400/day. Still within "losing" territory for me.

Someone once posted about how UDs are our "maintenance" days. They're the days when we're not dieting -- we're practicing maintenance calories and choices. That really helped me put UDs into perspective. It's not so much famine and then feast, but rather restrict and then "normal". It helped me overcome the urge to overeat so much on UDs (not completely, but it sure helped!)

Ok, so I had to come back and tell everyone how it went. I had a rough rough week and then there was this wine event after work on a Friday with all my favorite wine peeps.. So, I measured out my calories very carefully, with eating a dozen oysters and having two glasss of white wine (5oz). When I got to the restaurant, I had a moment of doubt but said to the waiter, "Pour me the smallest taste of that as you can" for the first bottle of wine. I also had a glass of club soda and a diet coke. Well he poured me LESS than 1/2 an ounce of wine. But I smelled it and tasted it and it was lovely. I stuck with that until they came around with the champagne. At a table of 10, they pour a small amount then go around a second time to top off. Again, I ended up with less than a 1/2 ounce in my glass and I refused more the second round. Also, lovely. Then they started ordering food for the table. The waiter tried to talk me into NOT ordering a dozen for myself (I LOVE oysters) and just eating with the table but it was oysters I was craving and what I had put on the menu I stuck to my guns and got the the mixed dozen. While wasn't looking, the waiter started to top me off with a third wine and I stopped him at about 2 ounces. Which was the perfect amount to have with my dozen oysters. I had 3 more oysters for a total of 15 and a taste of the sea urchin (meh) but no bread, no crab, no scallops, really not a whole lot that wasn't in my plan, and significantly less wine! I also scampered out of there early before I ordered 2 dozen more oysters and/or threw myself into the wine with abandon! When I came home and logged it, even with oysters that have a lot of calories each, I ended up at just over 600 calories for the day.

I'm sure you're riveted by my adventures in oyster/wine pairing but I am uber proud of myself! I accomplished event number 1, eating out, on a DD AND stayed in range.

I am the perpetual designated driver in my crowd. I have come to truly relish having literally a sip or two of wine, then passing the glass to DH. And, I am in 135% agreement: oysters over any other choice!

CONGRATULATIONS on having a gourmet, luscious DD!!!!!

Thank you for telling us what happened AND sharing the joys of a wonderful meal. I love the idea of you telling the waiter, "I am serious. I. Want. Oysters!"
