Down Day Up Day Calories?

Try as I might I cannot find an answer for me. So, I am considering trying JUDDD, having gained back gradually over the last year or so, 40lbs from my initial weight loss lost on LC, and now it seems LC isn't working, but it may be that I am not working it. Anyways, the whole concept fascinates me, and I think I could do it but............When I use the calculator to find my down day calories I get that my dd should be 375 at 20% and normal 1876. I just read the book last night and it says 500 calories for down days for induction.......I just wondered, is this correct do I really only do 375? I just haven't, in my lurking in the forum, seen that. And I keep seeing up day calories should be unlimited............but this is not really true correct. I really shouldn't go over 1876 calories on my up days? That doesn't seem like that much to me, but maybe my perception is skewed (I've been eating low carb a long time) and that's why I am having problems in the first place. I realize that some people eat different percentages, but if I am going to try it, I guess I want to do it "by the book" so to speak at first before I start tweaking and experimenting. Am I interpreting the calorie allowance wrong?

Induction should be 500 calories or less, but some need more to start. It's fine to try for 500 and then give yourself some wiggle room. You can always work your way down to 500, then down to your recommended calories. Some never have to go below 600-700 or so.

UD calories are not unlimited. It's okay to go a little below what the calculator gives you, but many of the experienced JUDDDers here will tell you to try to stick as close to your UD numbers as possible to help heal or increase your metabolism.

Thanks for replying. : )
I think I could stick to 375 but I imagine up to 500 claories for down days wouldn't make that much difference..........I guess maybe it's my perception. In reading other threads here, I don't see anyone else's up days at 1870 calories or so...........but I guess everyone is different.

We have some very low, under 1500 due to metabolic issues, and others much higher, up to about 2700 I believe. There are so many variables. Age, height, current weight, etc., all affect what your numbers will be.

My UDs are at 1800 some times, but mostly around 1700 and I eat a LOT of food on those calories!!

These should help:

Don't Let Those DD Calories Scare You Into NOT Trying JUDDD!

YOU GOTTA EAT!!

I think the first 2 weeks is 500 to help get your used to DDs. For some people (like me) 375 days are too difficult and 500 is a good starting point and will start the JUDDD "magic." Do what is confortable to you. If 375 works, then use that.

My UDs are 2050 or so and I try to eat as close to that as possible, but I know I tend to go over a little. I'm also 5'10" and I work out a lot so I get some more calories than most people. I also have higher DDs because I can't stand to go that low...I'm HUNGRY!

Definitely see what works and tweek as needed. I weight everyday for this reason. I like to see how different foods affect me.

Good luck!

Hi SkinnyPanda and to JUDDD!

Start at about what the calculator gave you for UDs and see how you lose with it, so maybe try to stick between 1800 and 1900 calories, max. Give it a couple weeks and see how it goes, you can always adjust later.
