Down days and juicing
Has anyone tried juicing on their down days?
I recently saw Fat Sick and Nearly Dead on Netflix and was interested in juicing. Not a juice fast per se, which is usually 10-60 days of nothing but juice, but I think it could be an intriguing experiment to juice fast on down days. DH has dropped a good chunk of weight recently and had some toxins floating about in his system, blocking a bile duct and causing him some pretty intense pain. Thinking he was out of alignment, he visited the chiropractor who told him it was his bile duct and nothing else. He had mentioned to her that we were thinking of juicing and she recommended lemon juice to keep the bile ducts clear. So anyway, just wondering if anyone else has ever tried this?

I wouldn't be able to do it on DDs. Juice is pretty calorie dense without the added benefit of making me feel full.

I need to find a calorie count.
I'm thinking mostly veggies on down days, not so much on the fruits, which would make the juice much lower in calories. Like, remember V8? Like that, only with fresh veggies instead of something that's sat on who knows what shelf for who knows how long. ![]() |

I bought a juicer last year and have not used it once!
The thing I would worry about for me is not feeling full. Honestly, I need, need, need protein to control my appetite. If I drink something like low sodium veggie juice, which is not too often, it triggers my appetite. ![]() That said, everyone is different. You may find it very satisfying and refreshing. And, if you could actually do it, I would imagine some pounds will fall off. Juicing takes the fiber, the "bulk" out of the veggies or fruits. Not sure how that works to clean out the intestines? What do you think?![]()

Good points and questions, Yam-Yam. I've heard that about "cleaning you out" too..not sure the why or the how, but I have a very sluggish digestive system, so that would be a welcome side-effect.
I haven't tried any kind of juice on my down days, so don't have any frame of reference for how it'll affect my appetite. But. It sure seems like it'd be a really healthy way to eat (so to speak, haha) on down days. We're buying a juicer this weekend, so I'll report back on this soon. Even if it doesn't work out for down day fasting, I plan to add fresh juice to my diet, it's so healthy. |

Giggle, I chop up fresh broccoli, spinach, whatever. Dump it into low sodium V8. Throw it in the blender and whizzz it around real fine. Add some hot sauce and call it a smoothie. VERY filling.

Okay, Mean Green juice (kale, cucumber, celery, ginger, apple and lemon) was very good.
Looking online, 16 ounces comes it at about 140 calories. We'll see how it does with appetite. I'm not hungry now, and I was before I had the juice. |

I like the name!!! Love the idea of adding ginger and apple - that is a wicked flavor combo!
