What motivates YOU to lose weight (other than health reasons?)

I want to be able to stay active for my 13yr. old granddaughter who has lived with us since she was 5mos.old. She has kept us young at heart!!

And.....of course.......there's......Vanity-much????.......MAYBE!!!!!.........
liking getting into those single digit sizes again!! Can't wait to shop for a new outfit for a friends upcoming wedding. AND....If I am reaaaaaaaaaaaly honest.......I am secretly (until now) a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle competitive with my sisters and bff

Last but not least, I want to prove to MYSELF that I have inner strength and willpower and can accomplish my goals in life. No better WOL to make this happen either!!SooooooooooooooJUDDD BUDS.....GIMME ALL YA GOT!!!!!!!

My biggest motivator was being able to wear all the wonderful smaller sized clothes that were just hanging in my closet and going out of style.

The side benefit is how wonderful I feel at a thinner weight!!

Health is a big part of the equation, but vanity? Absolutely! I was to the point that I would rarely socialize because I didn't want my friends to see how fat I'd gotten. It's horrible feeling that way. And it was a vicious cycle. If I wasn't getting out much anyway, what was the motivation to get thinner? Might as well just have another helping of self pity. Oh and pass the potatoes while you're at it!

My 20 year high school reunion was last summer and I did not go. I'd like to go to the next one.

Next spring, DH and I will have been married for 10 years. We've discussed renewing our vows, and I'd like to be pretty in whatever I decide to wear.

I'd like to go on a cruise and not be self-conscious about how I look in a swim suit.

I will be 40 this year! 'Nuff said!

Vanity for sure. I certainly don't like the way I look when I see myself in the mirror! Plus, the style of clothing I like to wear is more readily available in smaller sizes.

1. I have a closet full of size 8 clothes and I refuse to buy anything new.
2. My only child graduates from a military academy May 26th in NY and I will have to wear formal attire for the banquet. I have the dress, just have to lose enough to wear it. Plus I want him to be proud of his parents. Plus traveling is so much easier when you are thinner than I currently am.
3. I show dairy goats and we wear white in the showring. I have plenty of whites in various sizes but since white makes you look bigger than you already are, I do not want to look like a giant white blob. Looking forward to wearing the smaller white pants I have.
4. A lighter weight also helps me to be able to do my exercise program.

Similar reasons as the OP.

- To be more active for my DS (he's 2).
- To look better in clothes - I want to get some super stylish suits and improve my work attire.
- To not be the fat sister - I hate weighing so much more than my healthy, athletic sis.

Oh, I did not think of that one. But it sounds like fun. My sister gained weight during menopause - she is up to a size 6 now.

Health - YES! It's better for my back/neck and other health issues.

But, I'm terribly vain. I accept it. I hate when I hate what I see in the mirror. I like to be healthy and trim and, dare I say, pretty. I like to fit into cute clothes.

Lastly, and probably most importantly, being able to lose and then maintain weight would be life changing for me. It would be a control over my body and my actions that I've never had before.

Vanity definitely helps keep me motivated!

Thought I'd expand some on my earlier thoughts, and will probably do so again...

I don't want to look like I did in pictures last summer - some of my clothes looked like they were straining to hold me, and probably were since I hardly bought new bigger ones - just kept trying to wear my stretchier old stuff around the house.

The bathing suit I bought last summer to go to the beach was also a blow to my self-esteem. It is a nice suit, but it was so much bigger than anything I've ever bought before.

I'd like to be able to wear a real bikini and look good in it. (I add that because a few years ago I bought a bikini at the beach and wore it, despite not looking so great in it, lol. I wasn't overweight but I was not toned up and I looked too skinny-fat for how little the suit was. Mistake on my part, but I had just gotten out of a very stressful situation and had managed to "escape" from the stress with that beach trip. So I just wanted to cut loose a little and not care what strangers thought of me, lol. Folks can probably understand... So while I won't look like a hard-bodied model on the beach this summer (don't plan to exercise that hard, lol, but I will tone up some), I'd like to feel confident and good about how I look and enjoy it and have fun.

Well, health reasons aside (and those are important to me!), VANITY!

I have been singing with a country band for over 30 years. I stand on stage, occasionally in front of thousands of people, and sing. I was so embarrassed during those "fat" years. I couldn't find clothes that looked good on me, or fit properly, or were stylish. I wanted to be that "hot" girl singer, and not embarass the boys in the band, either (including my piano-playing husband!). Last week, we played Billy Bob's (the "World's Largest Honky Tonk") four nights, and it felt so great to wear my size 4 black slacks, and my size 4 Levi's. As a bonus, I was able to eat in their BBQ restaurant two nights and ended up the week at my lowest weight. THAT'S never happened before, lol.

One more thing that has been motivating is that my youngest DD has always been very thin. We're similar in height, and I've secretly always wished I could be as small as her. I've made it! In fact, she's put on a few pounds since she got married two years ago, and while she's still quite thin, I think I actually weigh a little less than she does. I NEVER, in a million years, thought that would happen.

Can you tell I love JUDDD?

For me: The mirror, the scale, too tight size 18 jeans!!!

One day, I was watching a show on tv and a skinny talk show host was just moving with such ease. All of a sudden I remembered how I used to feel, 45 pounds lighter, moving around without feeling like I was clumping around.

I wanted to feel light again. Wanted to chase my grand kids all over the place and just love how I feel doing it. 34 pounds lighter now and feeling the feeling! And, it's gonna get even better!

Of course, my good health is primary!

But, vanity is right up there on top!

I'm so grateful that I can finally go to the gym in my workout clothes and look good! There was a time not so very long ago that I would wear the baggiest of pants and the longest of tops to cover everything up.

Now, I go and feel proud and yes, almost sexy in my smaller shorts and t's.

Being able to go into my closet and pick anything and know it will fit. No more trying this or that on to see how it looks or if it looks too tight!

I'm sure I echo a lot of others about this, but yes, vanity is right up there along with my good feelings.

Yep, definitely vanity is a huge part of my motivation over here.

For me, I was 250+ for about 20 years. When you're that big (and I'm short, too!), you're invisible. People look right through you.

When I started to lose weight, people started to notice me. Strange men have whistled at me from their cars. Maybe it's annoying to some, but after 20 years of invisibility, I'm soaking it up.

I love going out with DH and he tells me he's proud of me. He says he wants to go out and "show me off". He likes that I'm cute and I'm with him. And I definitely am with him and only him. I like the attention, but am emphatically not interested in anyone but DH.

But I do enjoy the attention.

Vanity for sure. Also, I am a distance walker/jogger, and I'd really like to improve my time so losing some of this weight I have to drag along a half marathon would help that a lot!!

Lol. How to keep my other reasons PG... Let's just say my husband of 4 years pays a lot more attention to me now when I wear a dress. he can't keep his hands of me... When I am cooking food in a dress with a sharp knife, it is a catastrophe waiting to happen.
