Cooking is fun once more

I always enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, especially Eastern foods.

It is so great being able to revisit recipes I haven't cooked for years because of my lifestyle. I would occasionally adapt them and try to prepare them, but more often than not they were pale imitations of the real thing.

I love that none of my recipe books is off limits any more. Thank you JUDDD.

I love that too! I've always experimented in the kitchen a LOT (Beeb can tell
you about my adventures in LC before I came to the "dark side"), but I love
that I can use regular grocery-store ingredients now. Yup, it's a whole new
way of life now.

Boy, you two ladies have certainly pointed out another really, really nice thing about JUDDD. Since we are free to eat the foods we want to include in our diets, the world of foods is available to us. Recipes galore. Move over Julia Child!

This was something that struck me after some time being on LC. I have a large collection of Southern Living cookbooks, plus some vintage ones. I even have the one that the lady who owned the original Pepperidge Farms (Margaret Rudkin) published years ago. Sorry, no decent LC subs there!

I can really relate to this post. I adore cooking, and I make some killer homemade bread-all by hand, no mixers. Just me, my vintage Pyrex bowls, and a wooden spoon.

Sorry to go on, but I found a new appreciation for good ol' homemade eats ever since my life (and my family's life) returned to NORMAL on JUDDD..

Raises hand to enjoying cooking again.

On lc I went looking for vintage cookbooks - the kind that included butter, cream, and real cheese. But, of course, those recipes did tend to include a LOT of carbs.

This is so much better.

ME, TOO!! I am making recipes I have not made in a very long time and using all the ingredients listed without subs! It's so much nicer and easier to do a recipe without having to think and re-think to make it OK for my WOE!

And DF is the happiest because now I'm making all of his favorite things again, exactly are printed!!

This was one of those amazing things about JUDDD that made me so happy when I started, and still makes me sooo happy!! I can make my homemade pizza crusts, I can coat my fried chicken in flour, I can take any recipe in my books or online and make it as written!

I didn't do a lot of LC experimenting for substitute foods/ingredients, but when I did it was often costly, time-consuming, and then rarely turned out well, which meant trying again and again. My family didn't like the LC desserts I tried to make, for example. Now I can make "the real thing" all the time!

JUDDD is freeing in more ways than one!

I didn't love cooking while my children were growing up, because I got tired of trying to please them. However, when my DH and I went low carb and the kids were old enough to cook for themselves, I discovered that I actually like to cook and to try new recipes. I've built up a nice collection of favorite low carb recipes and I still enjoy them.

BUT, it was so nice at Christmas this year when I decided to make my fabulous sour dough bread. It was SOOO good to serve it to my family again for the first time in many, many years. I even gave some loaves as gifts. It's too good, though, and I wisely threw out the starter after the holidays. That's a bread I can sit down and eat a whole loaf of, lol.
