A lot of exercise on a DD

Hi everyone!

So, I wore my heart rate monitor to try and get exact calorie expenditure and

I ran and attended a body jam class so I exercised for over 2 hours and burned 1024 calories.

Should I be eating any of those extra calories?

TIA

There are varied thoughts on this. I don't eat mine back even on a DD, but several do. The most I've burned on a DD is right around 700, and I usually average more around 500. I end up with negative "net" calories on those days, and it doesn't seem to have hurt my loss.

I don't think it would hurt you to eat some of them back, with such a high burn, you may even need to. My best advice is to see how you feel, go based off of that, and then monitor to see if it increases your loss, slows it, or keeps it the same. Then you can decide what your body needs.

I am always wondering about this too. I usually burn more than I eat on my DDs. I was wondering if it would be better to not exercise and eat only around 300 calories or burn my 600 calories running and eat 500 calories. I feel terrible when I don't exercise.

Dawn is the pro here, and one of our weight loss stars. I agree that, if you can keep calories negative...well, that is usually positive. But you do not want to feel shaky/weak/drained. So maybe keep small amounts of DD food around in case you start feeling bad. Try eating a little at a time, then see how your body reacts.

Listen to your body. I don't eat my 'exercise' calories, but I never work that hard. 1 hour max.

Great work by the way. Body Jam is such a fun class.

I agree. Listen to your body. You will definitely know if you need more calories. I exercise at least 5 days a week, burning anywhere from 350-500 calories. I personally don't eat back my calories, but I have also found that some days 500 cals just doesn't cut it, so a eat a few more, usually capping out at 600.

I think Kel's the pro here. She exercises way more consistently than I do!
