Trader Joe's Wines

I'm taking the kiddo to dinner since DH is out of town, and thought I'd amble in to Trader Joe's afterward. I am out of wine (not quite sure how THAT happened!) and I haven't really perused their selection.

I usually drink Chardonnay, but am thinking about picking up a Merlot or Syrah, or maybe a Zinfandel.

I only drink a couple of glasses of wine a week. I like reds best. My new favorite right now is Malbec. I bought a "box wine" that contains 1.5 liters last week at Target. I'm hoping the box will keep the wine fresher, since I drink infrequently.

Confession: I am not such a moderate drinker as this post makes it seem. My other favorite is Bushmill's Irish Whiskey. Enjoyed a couple of times a week.

I'm a Jameson's gal myself, but don't have it very often because I don't know when to stop.

Two Buck Chuck! Do they still call it that? Although I'm sure it costs more than $2 now...

We can't buy wine or liquor at grocery stores here in CT, but my daughter in chicago used to serve it to us....

Well, the question at hand.. I like all of them-nothing fancy, though. I love a heavy red like a syrah...

I don't know what "they" call it, but I still call it two-buck Chuck, FWIW

It's $1.99 a bottle in San Diego county. We usually buy the cab by the case

Two buck chuck is nasty! Our local Trader Joes has a great selection of decent merlots and pinot noirs in the $6 to $9 a bottle group. They vary every week, so it's worth asking one of the wine specialists in the store for a recommendation. I usually like what they recommend (I'm not that picky however).

For the past 2 weeks (at least), two-buck chuck (TBC), locally has been $2.49 to celebrate their "fill-in-the-year" anniversary. Needless to say, DH has stocked-up on TBC, plus a few other choice wines out of their other reasonably-priced selections. He's set for a while...

I like my vino sooo much - that yesterday I bought myself some lower calorie/lower alchohol wines to try - if they're good - great! If they're rubbish never again!! ('cept maybe on the odd DD)

Every now and then you get some 2 buck that's not good. Recently it's been better than ever!

Ended up with the Two Buck Chuck Merlot ($1.99 here in CA) and it was not too bad. I think I'll stick with my Chardonnay for the most part, but it was a decent foray into reds without too much commitment.

I paired it with the Lindt chili dark chocolate. Maybe that improved the flavor?

I always find myself drifting towards the pinots - grigio or noir depending on my mood or the food (love experimenting with food/wine pairing).

I used to buy Chuck but am now partial to Rex Goliath. I don't buy it at TJ's since it goes on sale at other places for lower price.

BUT if you want a really nice white, TJ's has a lovely Green Fin white table wine. It sells out so if there's none on the shelf, ask.

I get both types by the case since I'm not near TJ's anymore and I must take advantage of the Rex G sale price!!

Two buck chuck is three buck chuck in Missouri. My SIL in California asked at her store why we have to pay more, since things are usually more expensive out there, and they told her that the midwest pays an upcharge since they have to ship it further.
