They're testing my thyroid function too. The way I feel sounds similar to your description. I wasn't even this bone-tired when my daughter wasn't sleeping through the night yet. It's awful. I don't think they'll find anything with my thyroid though, because I don't think I'd be losing weight so well if that was the issue.

With my luck it's all in my head and they'll prescribe psych meds. Although that might be fun.
Thyroid can be difficult to diagnose. Honestly, my numbers were not ever out of the "normal" lab ranges, but just on the higher end of it. My regular Dr did not believe that thyroid was a problem. I went to an endocrinologist and at first cortisol was what he thought it was, but continued testing until he decided that it was my thyroid. I had lots of symptoms, but not the "numbers." Luckily, he has been treating me anyway and I am so thankful.

It started with me just being tired...like sleeping from 8pm to 9am and still feeling like I could sleep more. And it's not just like end of the day tired, it's literally like I can't get out of bed because I have lead in my veins tired. I was foggy headed. I remember a lot of joint/muscle/body pain and thought maybe it was psoriatic arthritis starting or fibromyalgia. I was able to lose weight by restricting calories and working out (which I forced and took lots of effort).

Later, I stopped being able to lose weight. I could gain 10 lbs of water in a day...no joke....it all went to my ankles. Every menstrual cycle, I ended up 2-3 lbs heavier.

I never had some of the symptoms, but I had quite a few. I just wanted to relate my story to you because it's not always so easy as going to the Dr and getting a quick diagnosis. Sometimes you have to push for what you think is the correct diagnosis. If it were up to my original Doc, I probably wouldn't be on meds for thyroid. Last time I went to her, she scoffed that I was on T4 and T3 saying "it wasn't a combination that was used a lot." I think she's crazy...I see people take that combo all the time.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted!

That's exactly it! I'm foggy headed and can't concentrate. I feel like I'm getting nothing done. I go to bed early, sometimes as early as 8:00, though I get up usually around 4:00 a.m. But I never feel rested and my body just feels like it's dragging. Sometimes it feels like an incredible effort to walk from my car to my desk. I'm not the peppiest person anyway, but this is getting ridiculous! Huh. More to think about!

Another thought: Anemia?
I never even thought about anemia because I've always had really good iron. Since I started JUDDD, I've really cut back on red meat and dark green leafy vegetables (because I really like them best with egg or butter or cream or . . . )

So I just changed what I track on ************ to include iron, and went over the last few weeks. I've been 40% or below every single day, UD and DD alike. Sadly, I get 33% from my daily vitamin, so if it weren't for that, I'd be at almost 0!!

The doctor didn't do a fasting blood panel, so I don't know if she checked for iron. Wouldn't it be funny if that's the only thing wrong with me?

That would be a much easier problem to fix! When do your results come back? I think that they can tell anemia from RBC count as well...

Before my hypothyroid was diagnosed, I couldn't get through my day without a nap. I was tired ALL the time. Although my lab numbers didn't seem all that out of whack, my doctor put me on Armour and as she raised the dose, I felt better and better. Sometimes doctors just need to treat the symptoms, and not only go by lab values. I hope you get yours figured out.

Get ready for a laugh. Lupus test results weren't in the chart. Not sure if the lab sent them and they got lost or what, but they're contacting the lab for results. But---values for hypothyroidism show that's likely and they had to draw more blood to confirm, but have started me on a thyroid medication. Huh. The one thing I was sure it wasn't, just based on how well I'm losing weight. Now I have to wonder if I'm going to need to adjust my numbers once the meds start working, or what!

Thanks again everyone for all the and support. I still feel like crap and the results aren't 100% either way, but it's nice to have a starting point. And to know it isn't all in my head either.

How frustrating, not having all the test results! And needing more tests!

I'm glad they found something. I'm glad you have started on medicine that should stabilize and improve the way you feel. I am certain, if the medicine and the improvement mean you have to adjust your calories - you can do it!!!

Fingers, toes, eyes all crossed that this is the last diagnosis and life is going to get better.

Ugh, that is frustrating to have waited all that time only to not get all the results. At least you have a way forward for part of the problem. Praying the meds kick in and give you some relief from the tiredness soon, and they find the other results so you don't have to go through it again.

Your Doctor's office leaves a lot to be desired....

I am glad to hear you got *some* of your results back. I don't think you will have to worry about readjusting your numbers too much, but you will probably get to eat more, so that's a good thing! (Well, it is to me, I love to eat!). It will take awhile to get used to the meds and feel better though...lots of trial and error. Most importantly, you will start to feel better! It is night and day for me...I hope it is fo you too!

So sorry that you've had to go through all of this, and I hope you get a confirmed diagnosis soon. More importantly I hope you get well and feel better very soon, and if your meds do help fix your metabolism and speed things up, that will be good as well.

Thanks everyone. I haven't really noticed any change yet, but I've read it can be several weeks and there may be adjustments which will have to be made. I can't wait to start having more energy, and it would be wonderful if I can eat more and still lose, though I'm pretty darn pleased with the amount I'm able to eat now and the rate I've been losing. That's why I was sure it wasn't my thyroid.

Now we have to really watch Keira. DH had cancer several years ago which affected his thyroid. His mother is on thyroid medication as well, so now my baby has it on both sides of the family. Oy!

Other than the joint pain, nearly all of my symptoms can be attributed to hypothyroidism, (apparently even my hives and rashes) so I'm not even a little worried about any of the other possible diagnoses. It will all get worked out. The only thing I'm worried about is the medication. It's supposed to increase metabolism, but everything's been going so well, I'm afraid to change anything!

You all are so amazing. I know it's been said over and over, but it bears repeating again. Where else can you go on a forum for weight loss, and end up having so much input on general medical issues, with the level of care and support that you all offer? I sure am happy to have gotten to "know" all of you!

Just got a call from the Dr.'s office. The second set of bloodwork came back normal. I have another appointment on Monday. Lupus results were normal too, so at least that's good news.

Now I have no idea what's going on . . . Maybe it really is all in my head.

The first test was for hypo, gout, RA, and lupus. All were normal, except TSH was (a very evil) 6.66--thus the hypo diagnosis, and subsequent Rx for Levothyroxine.

When I went on Saturday for the test results, and he told me I was hypo, he said he needed to run some sort of confirmatory test (dummy that I am, I didn't ask what it was, just gave them my arm--the vampires!). The MA called me this afternoon with those results, which came back "normal."

Now I'm more confused than I was. I'll go back on Monday to meet with the doctor and see where to go from here.

I was reading your post KeirasMom, and I was thinking of something.

I have been having such issues over the last few years. Mostly womenly, but my doc is finally starting to figure it out. I am Estrogen Domainant. I was tested years ago for Lupus, because I had that butterfly rash starting. But thats when it was found out I was getting hives, and thats just how they were appearing to me. Never had hives before in my life! Now I get them so often.

Was reading about your tired and fuzzy thinking, your hives, and your recent hypothyroidism diagnosis. There are so many more things that go with Estrogen domianance that I am finding as I read about it.

I was diagnoses with fibroids and polyps about 2 weeks ago, and my gynie said that is a postitive sign of it! And as I got to thinking all this time it was right there, all the signs and symptoms were right there!

I started researching things on Estrogen and when you have more than you should and thats actually what led me to JUDDD. I found I cant really do Atkins. All these years of eating fatty foods because fat is good for Atkins, and all I was doing was more harm! All the hormones that they give animals to make them grow faster for our grocery stores, also stores in there fat, like it does in ours. <---I honestly never knew that!! But they say to eat lean meats and eat less meats all together. Well that doesnt help with Atkins either!

Anyway, Estrogen Domaniance is a family thing, to my understanding and you said you were worried about your child. I thought I would tell you about this so you can search it and see things they said you can do in everyday life that will help stop alot of the effects. I know I kinda freak out over it myself. My gram died of ovarian cancer, My sister is PCOS, mom with thyroid issues, so on so forth with other family members, and then me with the fibroids and that, I really worried about my daughter and son! (My son can carry the factor on to his kids too, because I am a first degree relative!). Its all related to Estrogen!

I started finding things that I never knew about and am trying to changes a few things when it comes to how they eat, and things they use now.

I really wish I could link you to a woman site I found that has really helped me understand alot about it and the gene factor, but the site has ads.
