Q&A

Hello, I'm on week 3 of Judd and I'm loving it. This forum is fantastic and everyone is so friendly and helpful I am still learning each day of this way of life. I was just wondering if the more experienced Juddsters could answer a few questions for us newbies?

1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost?
2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you?
3. What is your favorite dd meal ?
4. Best advice when dd's get tough?
5. Your favorite thing about Judd?

Thanks, all advice is really apreciated

1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost? I have been JUDDDing since 12/12/11 and have lost 26.4 lbs in that amount of time.
2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you? I started out weighing once/week, but I weigh every day now. My average goes up and down, but as of today it's at 2.8 lbs/week.
3. What is your favorite dd meal ? Small Wendy's Chili with habanero sauce. I'm lazy and love the convenience for only 210 calories!
4. Best advice when dd's get tough? It's only one day. You can do anything for one day!
5. Your favorite thing about Judd? It's given me back my life. I can have a social life again without having to always make a big deal about my diet. I'm losing faster than I ever have and am able to enjoy ALL the foods and wine I previously denied myself!

Thanks, all advice is really apreciated
I probably don't qualify as an "experienced JUDDDster" but I thought I'd give my two cents' worth anyway. I'm just under 10 weeks in and loving it!

Daily, and I don't believe I have a "normal" weekly loss, average weekly loss, however, works out to 2.38 lbs. See image below

I don't generally eat on my DDs.

I haven't had a tough DD since I started doing the 0-calorie DDs. At first, it was much harder for me to eat a little bit and then stop. Now, however, I can eat, or not, on my DD- no problem either way. I just prefer the more "empty" feeling of not eating on my DDs.

Thanks Kierasmum I live in Ireland so we don't have a Wendy's but I'm discovering some good ready meals for around 200 cals. I love protein bars with a large coffee too. Each dd I get to 8pm and I want to quit but I just remind myself that I only have a couple more hours and then bed and tomorrow I can have what i want. Weird thing is the next day I'm not that bothered about what I craved the night before

Aw, we'd love to visit Ireland. DH doesn't know if his family is from Ireland or Scotland, so we figure we have to visit both. I have both Irish and Scots on my side as well. The closest I've been is a two hour lay-over at Heathrow.

WOE: Low Carb Maintenance
1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost?
Since 01/06/12, down just under 15 lbs

2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you?
Daily. I stay low carb and I'm losing at the same rate I did on regular low carb, averaging about 2.7 lb per week

3. What is your favorite dd meal ?
I don't have one

4. Best advice when dd's get tough?
I don't have tough DDs because I'm in ketosis

5. Your favorite thing about Judd?
the DDs - it is the only reason I do this. My WOE is low carb, I just cycle my calories

1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost?
started 22 Nov 2011, had lost 25lbs till 30 Jan 2012 - haven't been able to weigh since!

2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you?
I would choose to weigh every day - and will again. For the period above, my average weight loss was just over 2.5lbs per week - though if you think about it - I had Christmas, New Year & a 1 week holiday in that period - and I didn't suffer over any of them - in fact I had several feast days over Christmas!!

3. What is your favorite dd meal ?
Still working on this - I have several go to faves that I combine. Shirataki noodles, prawns, cabbage - however I have asparugus right now - and that will become a new fave

4. Best advice when dd's get tough?
Chew gum, have a drink - remember you're not going to die from the starvation - eat something low calorie - do something different - remember tomorrow's an UD!

5. Your favorite thing about Judd?
Probably the weight loss, closely followed by the fact that I almost eat normally - way more 'normally' then I have on any other WOE

Hello and welcome Andi! I think my experience has been a "atypical", but I will comment on how to deal with tough down days. Warm liquids, such as tea, coffee and broth are helpful to me. As are gluccomannon capsules. My favorite DD meal is lean protein and a big salad with low calorie dressing. My favorite thing about JUDDD is that it can be soooo forgiving if you have a higher than normal day (cals or carbs).

WOE: JUDDD/PHD, LC now that my BG is getting weird
Start Date: JUDDD 1/1/12 + LCHF 12/1/13 (controlling diabetes)
1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost?
Started JUDDD the first time just before Thanksgiving 2011. A family crisis kept turning UDs into DDs so I ducked back into lc where I could maintain. Started for real 1 January. Twelve pounds gone.

2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you?
Daily. I average 1.7 pounds/week. But that is skewed: about a pound a week the first four weeks until JUDDD magic took hold. 2.6 pounds a week since then.

3. What is your favorite dd meal ?
#1 Cabbage, bok choy, other veggies, bit of chicken or fish, stir fried in one tb Kung Pao sauce.

#2 Drink veggies I chop, spice, and run through the blender (note to self: get an emulsifying juicer).

4. Best advice when dd's get tough?
Learn to recognize the varying kinds of hunger. I have hunger that resolves with a cup of tea or getting busy doing something. I also have hunger that signals, okay it's been long enough - eat something (I start DD with 100 cal of hwc, then don't eat until I get that signal sometime in the afternoon). And, a couple of times a month I have an overwhelming - almost sickening - hunger that seems to mean my body is doing something that requires energy input. When that hits, I nosh meat, tons of veggies, and even a little fat. I usually exceed DD calories on those days, but my weight is always down the next morning, so something is happening.

Oh, and - if DD starts out hard and hungry, think about what you ate (and how many calories) the previous UD. In the beginning some foods eaten yesterday may make you hungry today. For me, this seems to change over time.

5. Your favorite thing about Judd?
The way every DD is a new start (I had a pretty wild vacation a few weeks ago, and plan to have more). The feeling of peace and control. The health benefits of eating so little every other day.

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

1. Been on JUDDD since right around christmas but didnt really start in a good rotation until after new years, I havent lost anything but maintaining is ok.
2. I weigh everyday and i usually go up and down the same 3 or 4 lbs every week.
3. cabbage, chicken and cheese and protein shakes
4. what i have learned is that if i can ignore that hunger for about 10 or 15 min it goes away. A good thing to help ignore it is to have chicken or beef broth or tea. After a couple weeks the DD's get easier and you have one every once in a while thats tough but for the most part they are a breeze. I have learned not to push myself to fast. I do better if i have a protein shake about 10 or 1030. If i actually eat real food it makes me hungrier but a good protein shake with about 20 grams of protein helps until after lunch, then i snack on cucumber and celery and have some yogurt to hold me until dinner
5. I have been eating carbs again. I have been doing lowcarb for 7yrs. I lost 125lbs so i cant talk bad about lowcarb thats for sure. But it has been wonderful to be able to eat "normally" again. My family likes it too because i can actually eat what they eat sometimes. I love it!!!

I've been on a month so I'm not an experienced JUDDDer, but I think your questions are great.

I don't weigh, but my clothes all fit better.

My favorite two DD meals are Fage 0% 1 cup with stevia and 1tbls chocolate PB2 and the cabbage, chicken, LC cheese with miracle rice.

When things get tough, I drink hot water and distract myself. It doesn't take much now. If the evening is tough, I just go to bed knowing I can eat in the morning.

My favorite thing is knowing that I can do anything for one day and that I choose to manage my intake. I feel well in control of my food and I like that feeling.

Start Date: JUDDD-11/11 to present (LC-5/11-11/11)
1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost?
Started in November 2011 after stint with Atkins (May to Nov. 2011)
I have lost 21 pounds on JUDDD.

2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you?
I weigh every morning, and I do not ever have a "normal" weekly loss.
I fluctuate so much that I have learned as long as it's a downward trend, I'm doing okay.

3. What is your favorite dd meal ?
Now that I am eating normally, anything is fair game. I really try to have something different all the time. I guess the LC, cabbage and protein combo never gets old though. I really love it!

4. Best advice when dd's get tough?
I know how to wallow in self misery if I want to. I also know that only I am responsible for what goes in my mouth. If I get bored or feel pitiful, I go outside and exercise, or do some crafting. Anything to get my mind of myself.

5. Your favorite thing about Judd?
Oh dear....There are so many. I guess my favorite thing is how my life is normal again. I am back to my happy, cheerful self. Low carb just about destroyed that for me. I also love my JUDDD BUDDDs, 'cause they always, always understand and care like no other group!!

1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost? I started on January 3rd. I have lost 10.5 pounds.
2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you? I weigh every day and conscientiously makde a decision not to be controlled by that number when it swings up. (Which for me is always after a DD)
3. What is your favorite dd meal ? Probably shiratake noodles sauteed with veggies. Lots of food with very low calories. In fact, sometimes I feel like I cheated when I eat something like that because I have that very satisfied full feeling. I tried the cabbage thing and didn't care for it, but the shiratake noodles have been God sent!
4. Best advice when dd's get tough? I drink LOTS of hot tea and that seems to help. Also, I keep cut up celery on hand. It's very filling and low calorie. If I can spare the calories, I can even spread some Laughing Cow cheese on it for a little treat. Honestly though, after the first few DDs it got a lot easier.
5. Your favorite thing about Judd? My favorite thing about Judd is my new relationship with food. I do not LC on Judd and I finally feel free. I no longer feel "left out" or deprived when I am eating with the family. I no longer obsess about food. And of course, the weight loss!

1. How long have you been on judd and how much have you lost?

Started October 2011. Had 5# to go until goal, but the weight had been coming off sooo slowly on LC that I thought it would take months. I reached goal in weeks and have been maintaining since Nov. I have lost 10 more pounds in maintenance without meaning to. But I'm currently happy in the 130s!

2. How often do you weigh and what is a normal weekly loss for you?

I usually weigh daily unless something comes up where I'm not at home or around scales. My normal weekly loss in WLM was about 2# week going by memory. In maintenance, I have lost around 5# each month. Again, this was unintended loss though.

3. What is your favorite dd meal ?

The cabbage protein skillet dish. Also Pure Protein Chocolate Deluxe bar because it's filling and tastes something like a fudge brownie - goes great with coffee or tea or a little wine and satisfies.

4. Best advice when dd's get tough?

Hot drinks such as coffee, tea, broth and chewing lots of sugar-free gum. I will chew stick after stick after stick until the hunger stops, and it always does with enough sticks of gum. Also, saving as many calories as I can for evening so I don't have to go to bed hungry.

5. Your favorite thing about Judd?

The health benefits beyond weight loss, the food freedom (REAL recipes and foods, and everything can fit into real life situations), the knowing that any over-indulgent day can be corrected with a light-feeling DD.
