Advice Please: Eating out on DD?

Today is supposed to be a DD for me. I really need it as we ate late last night on my UD and I went a bit overboard on calories.

DH reminded me that we have a dinner engagement at our country club. I had forgotten so did not plan it.

What would you eat if you had to go to a dinner out? I can try not to eat any calories at all before dinner, but I'm thinking that staying under 500 calories might be difficult. Especially if I have a glass of wine and I want to do that!

WOE: JUDDD for life, baby!!
Start Date: Feb 2009; RESTART: Nov. 2011 as EX-LCer
I would have a big salad w/low cal dressing and whatever fish they might have that's not breaded, with veggies/no butter.
And don't fret too much and ruin your dinner--everything will even out during the week.

Salad with just vinegar or lemon as dressing.
Any grilled chicken or fish item.
Avoid the bread and butter and dessert.
Have that glass of wine and enjoy!

Wanted to echo the menu suggestions already and to say don't feel stress if you need to increase your DD calorie limit just for today. You're doing great!

Good suggestions and thanks for reminding me it will be ok to up the DD calories a bit if necessary.

I have another thought. If I do an hour or so of cardio this morning and then again tomorrow morning, still trying to stick with fish and salad and one glass of wine, the calories I burn should help. My only worry about that is lately when I do high intensity workouts I get very hungry!

I have a similar situation tomorrow. It's a DD, but I'm going to have a long lunch with a friend I haven't seen for 15 years (kinda cool, because we're both from the UK and he's just moved to New England - I've been here for 7 years) and it's going to be such a blast to see him. I've decided to make lunch my meal of the day, and focus on fish, salad, something grilled and lean. I get hungrier when I exercise, so I won't be doing that tomorrow

Good luck, I'm sure we'll both do great!

I wouldn't work out too hard today since that would make me work up an appetite. Can you save your hard cardio for your UD?

Glad you're also doing so well with the JUDDD woe, Alcestis! Enjoy your meal with your friend!

You and Yam Yam will both do wonderful and enjoy, and get right back in the usual swing of JUDDD when you can.

Just echoing my agreement on the menu suggestions! I've managed to eat out several times on a DD - sometimes I've pushed my cals to 700 - others, I've managed to stay within the 500. It will balance out in the end! Today we're eating bbq with friends - fortunately - I'm in charge of shopping!!!

I'm worrying about this too, I have a lunch date with a friend every Saturday, so every other week will be a struggle!

Edit - I have next week planned! Ruby Tuesday emailed me a 25% of coupon so I started browsing their nutrition information. Spaghetti Squash Marinara - Red pepper marinara tossed with roasted spaghetti squash and tender zucchini. 257 calories

It's amazing what you can find isn't it!??

Sure the country club is less obliging with it's nutritional information - but as far as your lunch is concerned SummerAnne - find 3 or 4 places that you can go to where you know the cals - and you'll be set!

The downside is we prefer to support the locally owned, non-chain places the majority of the time - and of course they aren't required to provide nutritional information. But hitting a chain next week will buy me time to analyze menu items since I've never had to think about calories before.

I've only had to do this once, I chose a salad with lots of different kinds of veggies and the leanest protein on the menu (shrimp). Oh, and dressing on the side. I tried to fill up on iced tea with lemon. I didn't know until I got home and checked the online nutrition facts, it was under 300 cals!

Gosh, you did way better than me!

So, here's how it went and I did better than I might have but not as good as I should have.

1 glass Cabernet = 100
3 ounces prime rib = 325
1l2 piece bread = 80
mixed green salad with balsamic vinegar - not counting it
2 teaspoons olive oil = 60
Steamed asparagus = 40

Prime rib usually comes with choice of potato, but the waitress said I could pass on the potato and have double asparagus. I did that.

So, keeping it under 700 for a dinner-out-DD is not bad.

However, the prime rib was super salty. It was WONDERFUL! I brought the rest of it home for DH to have a sandwich for lunch.

But I'm sure all that salt is causing me to hang on to fluid. I'm so sensitive to sodium. If we go to the movies and I even eat one handful of DH's popcorn, the scale will be up the next morning.

So, I'm up a pound after a DD. Bummer. Oh well. I had fun!! That's important, right Vicki??

I think you did fine, and it's for sure the sodium which caused your increase this morning. I bet in a day or two it'll be right back down! Plus, how many of us can say we had prime rib and cabernet on a DD?!?

Actually there was no...nothing! My friend hasn't been in the US long, and it turned out that the rental place wouldn't accept his credit card. For once, I was ready early and had decided to leave myself lots of time for driving, so by the time he called me I'd been driving for about 45 minutes...

Sooo...I went grocery shopping, went clothes shopping (got a great Jones of NY skirt for $12 in Macy's!! and a gorgeous shirt), came home and made a lovely cod loin dish with pesto and cream cheese (just a very little of that for me) and broccoli. DH was very happy because he'd thought he'd be fending for himself

Oh, I did get two whoopee pies and had a leeetle taste of one, but am saving the rest for tomorrow. Not a bad day, considering Yam Yam, sounds like you did fantastically well!

Yam-Yam, that is wonderful! You ate with great care (and it sounds like great pleasure!) That pound will melt away so quickly.

Alcestis, congratulations on morphing a meal into a shopping trip! Way to go!

Well, I enjoyed a great UD yesterday and the scale was down 1.2 pounds this morning. This is the first time I have been up on the scale after a DD and then down after an UD. And, I ate pizza yesterday! Unreal. So, I'm sure it was the salty meat and the bread from Friday night and it washed away yesterday. Whew!

Sorry your plans got canceled. sounds like you had yourself some fun, anyway. I love Macy's and Jones of NY. I'll bet you look awesome in the new skirt! I actually enjoy shopping for clothes again. When I was at my highest weight, I couldn't stand it. Now when I get a chance to go to Macy's a go a little crazy. But I actually went for years without shopping. I just wore the same old baggy clothes, trying to hide everything. Now I have gone from a size 18 (tight jeans) to a comfortable size 12. So fun!
