What am I doing wrong?

I will be finished up my third week on Sunday and I haven't lost any weight at all. INitiallly I lost and then, it came right back on. Then, I got TOM last week (early by a few days and that was odd). I don't know if it's because of TOM but I haven't lost any weight at all in 3 weeks. My DDs have been higher than 500 and I had one this week that was probably around 700-750. I don't know for sure as it was a very bad day for me, very stressful. Overall, I have so much stress right now that I'm not sure I can be successful at this...not that I can't do it but I'm afraid the stress is actually working against me. I am trying to lose about 8-10 lbs that I gained back after hcg. But, I'll be clear...I didn't gain the weight back because of cheating or overeating but gained weight with TOM. I could have some thyroid issues. I have had this problem of not being able to lose a pound no matter what diet I try since after my second baby, who is now 4 years old. I lost 30 of the 40 lbs I gained while pregnant and then, got stuck there. Finally lost that weight with hcg but now it's all back on again 6 months later. I'm wondering if anyone has been successful on JUDDD while also having a slightly hypothyroid problem. I am not diagnosed but can't figure what other reason there could be for the inability to lose weight and the ease of gaining again. I am 43...and probably perimenopausal but geez, so are a lot of skinny women around me picking up the kids at the same preschool. ONe of them is in fantastic shape and age 45, has had 4 kids (I only have 2 and she is an Isagenix coach.

I'm a newbie as well so I don't have a lot of wisdom. My only thought is that with the HCG, your diet was very low cal, low fat, low carb, correct? Perhaps, your body just needs more time to readjust. I do keep my calories quite low on DD (less than 300 cal.) I also don't weigh so I can't tell you how much I've lost in a month, only that my clothes are much looser.
I can undertand your frustration with the scales not budging. How are your UD calories?

I am doing 1500 calories for UD and I've been pretty good with that, not over it. I eat very clean, veggies, eggs, meats, healthy fats like coconut oil, butter, some nuts, tiny bit of fruit on occasion. I eat clean both DDs and UDs. The difference will be that DDs are much much lower in fat and much more like my hcg diet menu. So, I don't add CO or butter to anything on DDs, would take up too many calories and I focus more on protein and veggies.

The only thing I can see (and remember I'm way new at this too, and have lost only 3 pounds in 5 weeks), is that the spread between your UD and DD isn't as wide if you are having higher DD's. And from what I've read, it seems the wider that gap, the better JUDDD works.

I'm sorry things are so stressful right now. Have you gained on JUDDD? It may be, that until things relax a bit for you, maintaining might be all your body can handle.

Thanks TIna. No, I haven't gained, thankfully. Well, I lost and then gained but that was probably due to TOM and my usual gain. I will try for maybe one more week and be stricter with DDs if I can. I think it was you that said you had to increase DDs to 600-650 in order to start losing.

I'm sorry things are not moving for you. It's hard to know exactly what the deal is...everyone is so different. Sometimes it's trial and error to find exactly the right combo of UD/DD #s that will work for us at our weight/height/body chemistry, etc...

You've tried upping your DD # and that didn't produce results. My next suggestion (not knowing your height or current weight), would be to put your DD calories back to where you had them originally (500 or less, I assume) and work on your UD #. Maybe 1500 isn't your magic number. Maybe you should try upping that to 1700 or so for a while and see if things start moving along again. With JUDDD, you are trying to get your body to kick start it's metabolism by alternating highs and lows...usually the bigger the swing between those two numbers, the better.

Keep posting with updates. I'm sure more BUDDDs will chime in to help. HTH!

Well - I'm 10 hours ahead of the UK - so if I'm right - Eastern Sea Board - is what, 6 hours behind GMT? May be wrong - but think I'm at least 16 hours ahead of the US!!! It is 10.15pm now on Friday night.

CD, if you do not mind sharing your stats, we would love to run some numbers for you. I am concerned that stress and perimenopause are playing into your stall. But I also wonder whether you are getting high enough in calories some DDs that you are releasing sirtuin enzymes slowly. That, especially with TOM right in the middle of your three weeks, might explain what is happening. Stats could help.

In the meantime, I am still keeping you in my heart and prayers - that this time of stress will soon pass.

Vicky, since it your Friday night, can you tell us how our Friday day is going to have went?

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

I agree that you might try upping your UD numbers. Im about your age, 40, and i have to eat at about 1700 to 1800 on UD's and 500 or less on DD's. I can even get away with going higher on UD's and not have any problems. Now, for me coming from eating lowcarb for so many years it has taken a good couple months for my body to adjust. I initially gained weight even adding carbs back in slowly. I know you havent added too many carbs but with you coming off of HCG your body is probably going through some adjustment. I would start playing with upping your UD's. The whole key is having that big spread between UD and DD calories. And the more you eat on UD's the easier the DD's seem to be.

Thanks everyone. Well, I am very short, 5ft and a smidge over that , and my ideal weight is around 112. I am 122 right now. Every pound counts when you're this short, and it's noticeable that I gained the weight back. I got down to 111 on hcg but my round ended July 24 so it's been awhile, almost 7 months since I stopped hcg; I don't think I"m adjusting anymore. After I stopped hcg, I ate perfectly according to protocol increasing my protein and healthy fats and I never added back in sugar or starch. Lost my desire for them. I was not eating fruit before hcg but during the hcg diet I ate 1-2 pieces of fruit every day as per the protocol. I dropped the fruit when I finished. Lately, I've been adding a little fruit (a handful of berries, 2-3 slices of apple I sliced up for the kids). Anyway, I am active, too...I run a few days a week (I have been a runner for 15 years but I lowered intensity and days of the week while doing hcg last year and I've kept it like that), I do some body resistance DVDs, using weights, kettle bells. There's been a lot of stress, though, and I have a hard time squeezing in the workouts so I probably get in 3-4 workouts in a week. RUnning has always been a huge stress reliever for me (never worked to lose weight) and I think about doing it more often because of that...gets me away from the kids for a break, music headphones on, and endorphins kicking in.

I am writer part time so I work at the computer when I am not doing stuff for the kids. My 4 year old is home with me, goes to school 3 mornings only.

I feel like giving up this morning. I just don't know if maybe not eating on the DDs is too much for my body. All this dieting the last 3 years, very low carb, Atkins, Protein Power, Eat Fat, Lose Fat; and hcg...have taken a toll on my body, perhaps. We have huge financial problems right now, my parents passed away and I am still grieving them, my H's parents also passed away so there are no grandparents, and we have no siblings. There is no family and no support. H and I are not getting along great right now given the added stress we are under.
I think I got into everything now and you just asked for height and weight, lol. Thanks.

Hmm - so based on little or no exercise your numbers come out at 304DD and 1519UD.

I would recommend that you aim for 500 on your DD and 1550 or so on your UD.

It's very difficult for me to comment on your goal weight - I am so far away from it.

There's a few people here who are about the same height (I'm only just 5'2" - and am aiming for 122) already - who may be able to comment more.

Having just looked at a (I'm sure unreliable) weight chart - the weight range for a 5' woman is 103 - 137; 122 is pretty middling. I'm not saying that you shouldn't weigh 112 (I know we all have our own comfort zone and all bodies are different - and it's definitely within the healthy range) - just wonder if this is a weight that you can comfortably maintain. In light of the fact that you are now 43 (so am I!) and are probably approaching peri-menopause?

Thanks Vicky, but I am not exercising little or not at all. I run 1-2 times per week, I do the body weight and weight training, too. So, a total of 3-4 times per week of decent exercise. I used to exercise a lot more than than before doing hcg last year. I exercised 6 days per week, sometimes very intense and longer cardio sessions. It didn't help me to lose any weight and I was burning out.

I also have 2 kids I run around after and I am pretty active, except when I am sitting at my desk writing (but lately that hasn't been happening as much either because work is extremely slow).

You may be right about the weight and being older, etc. What I do know is that I have visible fat to be grabbed and I have a layer of pudginess all over that I didn't have at 111. I wasn't skinny either at 111 (I have never been skinny) but healthy and happy with getting rid of the chubbiness and fitting in my clothes. I think even 2 inches taller than me, Vicky, 122 will look different on you. Actually weight looks so different on people, it's so individual. I also think I would look a lot better if I could reduce the body fat percentage and gain some muscle in its place.

I know I am in a healthy range, but I am also concerned about the creeping weight gain I have had since hcg, every month with TOM I gain weight and it doesn't come off, so that could potentially continue. I was around 130 after my babies and trying to lose the rest of the baby weight,and I was definitely overweight looking at 130 (again this is very individual). After hcg, I have gained all over (thighs, butt, abdominals, even arms). But I am considering not forcing my body to get to 112. But I don't want to stay here either . Thanks for your help Vicky. I am aiming for 500 for DD and I'm at 1500 for UD so about what you recommend. But I have definitely been over on DDs. The stress I've had this week had me nibbling some extra calories the other day, despite my best intentions.

Well, I did lose 1 pound when I upped my dd calories, but I upped them because I decided to just be in maintenance and quit trying to lose. But that was over a week ago, and it hasn't changed since, so I think it's probably a good maint level for me. And I do 1500 on UD's too.

I'm focusing more on toning exercises, because I have that layer of 'pudginess' too around my middle especially.

I'm so sorry for all you are going through in your life right now. Will be praying things settle for you.

Oh my dear, that is lot of stress!

It does sound like you are slender enough that going over 500 on some DDs is enough to slow down or stop the sirtuin enzymes. Once we get into full stress response on DDs many of us find DDs downright pleasant. There is hope that when your DDs are right, they will not be so hard.

Do what you need to do to take care of yourself and your family.
