My first DD
 
After wallowing in self pity and obscene amounts of high carb muck, I decided to take a deep breath and jump headlong into JUDDD. Here is how my day went:

5:30 am. Rise and... well, not shine exactly. Glower. Yes, glower is the right word. I'm not looking forward to a 500 calorie day or work and especially not a 500 calorie day AT work.

7:30 am. I'm at work and have a large mayo jar full of coffee with 60 calories worth of coconut milk. I'm hoping to sip on this for a couple of hours and hold hunger at bay. My co workers eye it uneasily and I hear "You don't even wanna know what that looks like."

8:00am - 11:30ish am: The coffee, with nothing to soak up the acid has given me killer heartburn. I'm hungry, hateful (internally so - can't cuss the customers!) and keep trying to guess at how many calories might be in the antacids I've popped. This little girl comes in with her mom. She has a granola bar in her hand. I want it. I hope her mom gets audited for taunting me with granola bars.

1:00pm: I've decided to go ahead and have my lunch. It's that or pop people with rubber bands. I'm short on rubber bands, so lunch it is. I'm somewhat less than thrilled that I'm going to have to dump chili on top of my already acid ravaged stomach. Oy vey.

6:00pm: I'm sitting on a bench at Wal Mart, waiting for a prescription and starving. I hate Wal Mart. I don't think I hated it before today. I do now. Right now, I hate everything.

7:30pm: Supper was cauliflower - a whole bag! I found the Laughing Cow cheese in the exact same place my son said he couldn't find it. A bag of nuked cauli mixed with 2 wedges of Swiss LC, some fake butter spray and good ol' salt n pepper has brightened my outlook on life somewhat.

8:30ish pm: I glurped down an orange sugar free Jello. Never has an artificial gelatinous blob tasted so good.

Present: I keep debating as to whether or not pretend I don't know the antacids have calories in them so I can snarf down more Jello. Plus, I am in awe of the fact that I'm cold. Is that normal for JUDDD? I'm never cold.

So there it is. My first DD. I did it on a Monday during tax season. I'm tired, cold, still a bit hungry, slightly headache-y and thrilled to death that I made it! I'm looking forward to an UD tomorrow but I don't regret today one bit!

Well, tomorrow is a an UD and you are done with this first DD so give yourself a hand!! :clap:

I suggest you eat good, wholesome food on tomorrows UD and plan your foods to get the most bang for your calories on the following DD.

Both of these ^^^ will help to make the next DD easier, I promise! ;):up:

Yayyyyy! I was hoping you'd check in. I'm so glad you made it! You should be so proud of yourself. I am proud of you.

So maybe coffee on an empty stomach is a no-go for you. Maybe tea instead?

Beeb: Thank you! I am feeling pretty smug and pleased with myself at the moment. I plan on taking your advice.


Luna Loca: You've been so sweet and helpful to me; thank you so much! I just might have to try the tea. I like coffee but I do have to give it up every once in a while because of the heartburn. I should have known better than to have it today of all days. I practically begged for the fire in my guts by drinking it on an empty stomach.


Cherryhair: Thank you! I wish I could write for a living but I'm one of those who couldn't be clever to save my life if I had to do it on demand. I get brain farts as often as teenage boys get real ones. Too bad I don't find them as amusing. Besides, my kids assure me that I am not nearly as funny as I think I am. :annoyed:

I believe it is normal to be cold on a DD, kinda wierd, but it makes sense I guess! Will be a blessing in the summer! ;)

You are so funny, Paula! I know how you felt, I had been there. It *does* get easier! It took several weeks for me, but it did get easier. Now I can fast all day until dinner and feel pretty much fine!

Very entertaining, but I know how you feel. I think most of us went through tough times our first DD's. It really does get (much) easier. Most DD's I find myself thinking....was this really a DD? How come I'm so full?

I work in the tax industry too, though (fortunately for both me and the taxpayers) not with taxpayers (though I have in the past). I know this time of year can be stressful for everyone concerned. You are quite brave to start this new regimen during tax season!

I do drink coffee in the morning and have actually found that I can drink black coffee on DDs--I've never had it before. :dunno:

Once I finish my coffee, I switch to hot water with lemon and a green tea bag. I drink that literally all day both UDs and DDs. It helps keep me full and warm! :)

Finally, I need protein on DD's without it I am starving and definitely cranky!

Congrats on your first DD...and a very entertaining description.
I am hoping for another one...describing your first UD!

Have a great UD...enjoy every bite...and do a good DD plan...you would be amazed just how much food you can squeeze from 500ish cals!

As for the antacids...I never count em..life is too short to count an occational antacid!

You did awesome! I promise each one gets easier.

I do drink two mugs of coffee on my DD and then I switch to herbal fru-fru teas. Much more gentle on the stomach and I feel like I am giving myself such a nice little treat. (Plus it keeps my belly warm and filled).

Right around dinnertime on my DD I find myself getting really excited about the next day. UD!!!! :)

Also, check out the DD recipe threads. Lots of great ideas to keep your tummy feeling nice and full!

Good for you for making it through your first DD. I can still remember my first DD. . . I will be with you on your next DD tomorrow. You will find lots of support here. We are all in it together. ;) I find that oatmeal usually keeps me pretty full in the morning and helps with the acid that coffee seems to produce for me as well. :)

I would love to hear about your glorious up day TODAY :). It's hard to imagine now, but, the DD's do get easier.
