Hello Juddder,

I am curently in maintance and have seen the scale as low as 167 and as high as 176(those uu and away days) when I have those it take over a week to get back down. My question today is about exercise and my calories so Thursday was a dd and I ran a mile, took an aqua Zumba class and a regular Zumba class that day. My total calories were 862 and calories burned were 1104 and yesterday after spending several hours doing yardwork...btw a wear a heartrate monitor..i burned way over 1000 calories and my calorie intake was 1998. This does not happen all the time but on dd when a do Zumba I burn alot and now I am taking kickboxing and its a high calorie burn. My question is does this mess with my Juddd magic or does my body still know the difference in what I ate. I don't want to mess with the magic.

kj

I also posted this in arose Juddd Maintance.

For right now, I am thinking I need to make sure I make the DD calories all the way, and the UD calories all the way.

If I keep losing, move my UD calories up to 60%. After a couple weeks of being on target, and I keep losing, then move up the DD calories a little more than 60% until I stop. That is about all I know to do for now.

I guess this thread is the start of figuring out maintenance that works for each of us?

This is not health food, but what I have done when I needed a fast 200 extra calories is grab some of hubby’s chips or chex mix and some nuts, I do measure it. It’s for when I am not really hungry but have to get some calories in when it is not meal time. I think I am going to finish up the ff half and half and start with full fat half and half. I have about two weeks’ worth of it here still. I just had a thought writing this, I could use whole fruit to get extra calories too. Instead of half an orange or half an apple! Now that Is awesome! Duh!

The alcohol is really a lot of calories you will need to replace. So try some of Tina’s suggestions and using full fat (more calories). I bought some steaks and I normally save red meat for UD’s because it does have higher calories. I have pretty well stopped buying diet foods, low calorie things and am back to normal meals I fix for DH. It seems so strange to just eat normal foods after LC since 2004! This is one reason I love JUDDD!
Dawn, Sounds like a good way to work it, by eating up to all your calorie limits and see how it goes for a while. Maintenance involves experimentation to see what we can "get by with" as far as our calorie limits. It's kinda fun, and we know how to get the pounds back off again if they would happen to creep. Thank you for the food suggestions. You're right too in that it does seem strange to be able to eat normal foods, just any foods we want and lose so well. It's different if we want or need to restrict a food, but there's something about a diet plan being laid out for us and forbidding foods that we normally would want or could eat. That's one of the things that make other woe hard. None of that on JUDDD!

Thanks, Cindy and Sofie...

Maintenance always sounds kind of daunting to me because I've made it here so many times and blown it...however doing JUDDD gives me a lot of hope as I love this WOE...absolutely don't mind the DDs and, of course, love the UDs!!!

KJ, I don't think it will mess with the magic, but if you notice you are losing more than you want to, then you could maybe eat back half the calories on your really high burn workout days and see how that goes.

Just hanging out at 125 with an occasional bounce to 126. Pretty happy with it.

Had a major Up Up and Away Day. Am I worried? No I am not, cos tomorrow will be a lovely DD and on we go, rotating and maintaining.

I was with old friends, from 40 or so years ago. We all lived in Hong Kong together and some I hadn't see for over 10 years. Naturally, with met in Soho, at a great Chinese restaurant and I neither know nor care what the calories were.

I love JUDDD.

Today is day 5 for me here, the last 2 days were good, but not the first 3!

When I went to Dr. J. site i put in my current weight and then for exercise first I put in 2-3 times a week, then the next one I put in for the 5 times per week, I also figured at 50 % , does that sound right?

How did you all come up with your current calorie amount?

For UD I get 1546 & 1742 and DD I get 773 & 871.

I walk every day between 2 - 4 miles, so that is where the numbers change for me.

Which numbers do you all think I should use now?

Thanks All!

I'd start at the higher numbers. If your metabolism can handle it, great! If you see the scale start to creep, you can always lower it.

For my numbers, I didn't go back to the calculator actually. I just kept what was working in wlm, and then increased my dd calories (pretty arbitrarily actually) to 800. When that worked, I started adding a few to my UD and watched what happens.

I'm pretty comfortable at 1550/800. I do notice if I have a few UD's that stay under 1500, I start to gain. I need to have the extra to stop the stress response I suppose.

Thanks for the avocado idea, Tina & Luna. I made guacamole the last couple days and it's the perfect dip for raw broccoli and cauliflower florets. Healthy and high calorie, just what I needed.

I'm also eating almonds daily. Easy to grab a handful for 160 calories.

Though I had a good UD yesterday, I was still below 135 today. That will probably change with today's massive FD of overeating for a double bday party, lol.

I had so much carby, rich stuff and I didn't even get around to the cake yet, though I was tempted to eat some despite being stuffed to the gills. My stomach was really churning after the huge portions of hotdogs (with all the toppings!), potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, chips and guac, watermelon, etc. Biggest gorge I've embarked on in some time, and all the foods I haven't eaten in a while (plus they were much higher carb and more processed than I've had in a while). After eating, I just had to lie down on the bed for a while. I was a combination of sleepy, nauseous, and other sensations of blahhhh.

No matter, I am back to my regularly scheduled healthy foods for the rest of the week afaik. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the big special occasion splurge while I was eating it, but feeling that bad just wasn't worth overdoing it as though I'd never get to eat again.

Right now enjoying my first glass of wine in a week.

Have a great evening, my fellow JUDDDtainers.

Glad you enjoyed the party, but sorry for the yuck feeling after.

I'm in the process of analyzing my numbers to see why I'm up a couple pounds and it isn't coming down quickly.

Ok, so I need to make sure those UD's stay over 1500. Got it. We'll see what that does.

Tina, I hope you figured it out and that solves it! Wow, poor you, you have to eat more to stay so slender!

Sophie, I'm glad you're finding solutions to your GI issues. Glad you're enjoying the avocado.

Shirl, yes, the UDs make the DDs worth it, in my book.

Kissa, you are just the model for maintaining on this WOE to me. Eating with such relish and staying so tiny are just so inspiring to me. Please keep regaling us with tales of how you eat and what fun you have.

I'm up a pound and a half with water retention today. Busy day yesterday and few visits to the bathroom despite drinking plenty. Swollen fingers and ankles. Can't figure out what is making me retain water, but hoping it'll be gone after a good DD today.

Luna, sometimes the mere fact that we have that extra x chromosome is enough to make us retain. It'll release soon. Just keep drinking.

Yes, Kissa is my role model for how maintenance should go. Relaxed, breezy, loving life, enjoying food, and then balancing it all out with disciplined DD's.

I'm popping in for a brief visit to the maintain lane. I think I'll stick around at least the rest of May, and maybe through June to give this poor old body a chance to play catch-up. Then I'll return to the wonderful world of WLM.

Dawn I think this is a great plan for you. Like so many, a little 'holiday' in the maintain lane may help you relax and feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Thanks for the praise about my ability to maintain. I owe it all to the JUDDD magic. Sometimes I fear the worst after all the fun I have, but if I ever see 126 it is only for the briefest of moments.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I was looking forward to weighing in tomorrow after my higher DD today - I got to 730 calories, but then I got home and DH had set off bug bombs in the house. I've never reacted before, but my fingers and toes are so swollen and red right now. It started about 15 minutes after I got home, so I'm pretty sure that's what it is. I'm fully expecting a huge gain tomorrow, but won't blame it on the maintenance range calories! I think I need to go take some Benadryl and hit the sack. Ugh.

Gracie, what a beautiful dog!

That's our Shaka......German Shepherd/Husky mix.

Dh shocked me when he brought her home 14 years ago, thus the name 'Shaka'.

Love the name Shaka. I love cute dog name stories. We have a boxer/mastiff mix we adopted on 9/9/09. I searched all over for a cute name meaning 9, and we came up with Tesha, which is Hebrew for the number 9. We also have a chow/shepherd mix, who looks very much like a chow, but with shepherd markings. We named her Kina (which is Danish for China--chow=chinese dog, and I spent a year in DK). Finally, our rottie/shepherd mix we lost in January was named Reeses because we got him near Halloween and he was chocolate and peanut butter colored.

Well, my fingers are still swollen, so I know I'm retaining water, but I'm down 0.6 this morning, to a new low and a new decade. I'm hoping it sticks.

I also saw the dr. yesterday to go over my latest thyroid blood work and he's having me double my dose of thyroid hormone. I'm starting that today, so we'll see what happens there.

Dawn, Hoping for the best with your thyroid meds. I know dealing with that is probably very stressful. Love your dog name stories. Loved Sassie's too. Hope Keira is all better now (and you too) after losing kitty cat. I'm such a weepy person these days that I get sad just thinking that "life goes on"...........On a brighter note, I'm so glad for your new low and decade!!

Will be interesting to see how the dosage tweaking affects you Dawn. It can take time to get it dialed in just right.

Well, after making sure to get over 1500 yesterday (1580ish), I maintained my weight at 126, rather than bouncing back up to 127. Hoping a good 700 calorie dd will bring me right back to 125.

No change in the scale this am. So will repeat the over 1500 cal ud and see what happens.

Oh, and I realized this morning, that bag of chips I kept diving into yesterday? Yeah, cooked in sunflower oil which is one of my allergies. Gah. Fortunately, it's a mild one, and a once a week indulgence is supposed to be no big deal, but I totally spaced on it.
