Nervous about starting JUDDD.

OK, I heard about this WOE yesterday. I went to the website and looked it up. It sounds fairly simple.

But what I am nervous about is the down days. I did the calorie calculator thing and on my down days it says 485 calories! That scares the crap out of me.

What can I eat in a day for only 485 calories?

Also do you LC on UD? So it's basically like low cal on DD's and LC on up days?

Hi Tabbz!

You can allow yourself more DD calories if you need. A number of people start higher and work their way down if they need to. Would 500 - 750 calories sound a little better? Sometimes it's just knowing you have extra calories in case you are desperate that will do a lot for you psychologically, and you may find you don't even need all the extra calories, but if you do, use them.

Here are some links for DD food ideas:

Down Days recipes ONLY

Low(ish) Carb DD Staples

For a good many of us, protein and veggies make all the difference on a DD. More than fat, it seems the protein is a good appetite suppressant. YMMV.

This is a powerhouse recipe for many of us on DD! So easy and with so many variations! Cabbage, laughing cow cheese and chicken

DD Food Porn

Check out this one too.

I eat Low Carb on both days, DD's get easier as you do them. The first couple I was never more that 2 feet away from some chicken broth to keep me going. Now I can do 350 calories no problem. Very strange, cause I NEVER thought I would be able to do that!

Cabbage stir fry can be make in a LOT of different ways, as you will see by the thread Sophiethecat posted. You won't get bored with it. Progresso makes a few low calorie soups that are also lower in carbs.

GOOD LUCK! Good to see you here!

Also, if you're on ************, a number of us are there. You can friend me if you want (Keiras_Mom) and then view my food diaries to see exactly what you can eat for under 500 calories. Chances are it's more than you think. Although, I don't do low carb, so if you're looking for low carb recipe ideas, my diaries might not help you.

By the very small amount of calories on DDs, we often stay fairly low carb without even trying though.

That is completely up to you. How you eat is your choice, be it low carb, moderate or high carb.

If you want to introduce more carbs, it's often recommended to do it slowly, but you know yourself best - how you will handle unlimited choice of carbs. Because JUDDD doesn't "care" how you eat - only that you eat a certain amount of calories one day and a lot less calories the next day, and repeat.

Some of us went hog-wild on the refined carbs at first, then more or less settled down. Others stayed LC all along. Some allowed a small amount of whole food carbs at first to sort of test the waters.

Like Dawn said, DD are often lowish carb without trying since a number of us need protein to feel full and satisfied. So we're eating fish, shrimp, chicken, egg white, etc. and having that with salads or stir-fried veggies. I am a person who needs protein to feel full. But I made the mistake my first month or so on JUDDD of not realizing that and trying to get through my DDs on raw veggies, veggie soup and toasted lite bread, etc. and I was just about ready to gnaw my fingers off, lol. I had some real tough DDs that maybe I wouldn't have had if I'd know how to eat best for me from the start.

Surprisingly, it's not FAT that fills and satisfies many of us like I thought when I was just doing LC, but the protein that somehow does the trick.

YMMV! Experiment and see how you do.

Oh and the longer I've done JUDDD, the easier my DDs have been. Granted, I allow up to 850 calorie DDs in maintenance, but I don't use that many calories each time. So just go easy on yourself at first and settle into things. I'm sure you will do super!

Please read as much on our JUDDD forum as you can. Many, if not, all of your questions you will find have already been asked, with lots of good answers and other info/advice. Do a search for what you are looking for and you will find the threads to read.

Also, here is one that may help, too:

Don't Let Those DD Calories Scare You Into NOT Trying JUDDD!

There are also several threads about LC and JUDDD together. I am one of those that needs whole grain carbs to keep me full, and LC with all the fat/protein just never gave me the appetite suppression that these whole grain carbs that I eat on JUDDD does.

Good luck and hope you join us soon!

Beeb needs carbs for appetite suppression. When I started JUDDDing, I introduced carbs slowly and watched my reactions. I found I need protein and veggies on DDs. I can eat some 'white' carbs on UDs and feel fine and either maintain or gain less than a pound (that vanishes with the next DD). But I feel best on lc and usually eat EFGT on UD.

It took just under four weeks for the DD stress response enzymes to build up in my body. During that transition, I drank a lot of broth, munched a lot of veggies, and nibbled on a baked chicken breast most DDs days. Once appetite suppression kicked in, I find I forget to eat most DDs.

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

Yesterday was my first DD to forget to eat and I was thrilled! I ate grilled tilapia and salsa and was pretty much satisfied all day. How long have you been on JUDDD? It sounds like it will be a way of life for me!
