Maintenance Weights Over Time

This is to just show how even during maintenance, weight can be lost on JUDDD without trying to lose it. After all, metabolisms often improve on this woe.

If anyone else wants to share their maintenance weights too, I would be interested in seeing them!

I just put the weights themselves below to make it easier to see instead of what kind of day it was and the date.

I started weighing more regularly on Nov. 13th - the day after I reached maintenance, though on some days the weighing was skipped, as you can see. I was doing JUDDD, sometimes MUDDD and other IF. And UDs had become FDs.

NOVEMBER
My 1st maintenance range could go up to 147# before I planned to reign in the FDs, but I did not see 147#.

I would love to see those kinds of numbers on the scale in my future.
That is very interesting too.

That is wonderful, and encouraging.

I've been 130 for the past 6 days. So it looks like the level I'm eating at now is a good maintenance level for me. But it's 1500/500. I was hoping for a bit more freedom.

So it's good to know that over time, my metabolism might heal more and I will be able to bump those numbers up some.

I'm doing nothing different until Friday for sure, but I'm considering bumping my DD's to 650-700 and see what happens. If I'm not going to lose anymore, then I'd like it if I weren't quite so hungry on the DD's.

Also, going back to Paleo, it might help with the hunger control as well. I'm sure my carb experiments affected how hungry I was on DD's since it caused such wacko sugar spikes.

Mentally, I think shifting my thinking could be good. If I'm IN maintenance, I wouldn't be expecting to lose, and might be a bit less obsessive about this. I don't expect I'd see the big bounces if I'm not eating grain/sugar/starch carbs. And then if I lost a bit, it would be a happy surprise. Make sense?

One can also look at it as reassurance that the scale - she will bounce! But maybe not quite so much in maintenance as it did in WLM.

And another way to look at my results is that if I had not considered myself in maintenance but still in WLM all that time and then for whatever reason I decided to stop counting my UDs and do all FDs... well, I would have still lost but you can see how slow and frustrating it might have been for me! Let's say I wanted to get down to 138#... It would have seemed like I was bouncing around "forever" and hanging around at higher weights for so long! It's a whole other perspective on my weights! That whole time from mid-November until early January when I would have finally got a "taste" of my goal weight, but then gone back up again on the scale for a while - I can only imagine the frustration I would have had with JUDDD if I hadn't been minding my UDs.

So I guess I'm encouraging others to "respect those UD numbers" while you are in WLM or else it may require a much more laid back attitude to weight loss, in that you will probably get to goal, but you'll have to be totally cool with it taking a lot longer.... and most of us don't have the patience for that (me especially during WLM).

And here's some more info I dug up so you can see how it went for me in WLM. I had 5# left to lose when I came to JUDDD (have since lost 10# more in maintenance)

Started...

Oct. 12 - 150#
Oct. 14 - 148#
Oct. 15 - 147#
Oct. 16 - 146#

Only one pound left til goal!

Then came the ill-fated Chinese buffet dinner on Oct. 17 that hosed me down in water weight. And instead of getting back on track, I started doing like I said above - basically started doing FDs - ate hundreds and hundreds too many calories on each UD that week.... Well, I was back to 150# by the end of the week.

I sat down and took a good, hard look over my calories, my losses, my gains, did some math, and came up with exact calorie ranges for me, which btw, was 1700 - 1800 to lose weight.

Starting over, doing it right again by respecting my UD #s. The dates below are only showing where I lost, so the in-between dates not shown had our all-so-familiar JUDDD bouncing going on. lol.

Oct. 22 - 150#
Oct. 24 - 148#
Oct. 29 - 147#
Oct. 30 - 146#
Oct. 31 - 145#

GOAL!

Maintained around 145# for a week, but decided to lose some more with the proper UD #s once again.

Nov. 7 - 145#
Nov. 10 - 144#
Nov. 12 - 142#

GOAL!

Then I decided to just hang around 145# since that was my original goal weight, and I pretty much did that until the WL started again after Christmas, while deep in maintenance.

Also wanted to add that while those 5# I lost to get to goal may look like nothing or easy as pie to lose, the truth is, I was SCARED about it. I had been on vLC. I was getting a little depressed and afraid that it was going to take me so long to get to goal. My WL on LC had been slow (to me) all along, and by the end of my LC only days, it was taking me 3 or 4 weeks to lose a pound. And I'd always heard the last 5 - 10# would be the hardest, so you can imagine how I felt. I thought I was looking at months to get to goal at the rate I'd been losing there at the end. So I was frustrated by the time I came to JUDDD, I was feeling down and worried that my metabolism was busted, and wondering if it would take me forever to lost those last 5#.

So when the weight started dropping so fast on JUDDD, you know I was THRILLED!

I'm so glad how well it's been going for you on JUDDD, especially the improvement on metabolism, as I've experienced some similarities and truly felt that my metabolism was just broken beyond repair before doing JUDDD. I wasn't even losing at all just doing vlc, but clearly JUDDD is doing something right for me that vlc by itself just wasn't. This is definitely very encouraging as I move towards goal, and I hope to be where you're at when I begin maintaining! I keep pushing upwards on my UD calories because I want to go into maintenance at as high a level as I possibly can.

Thank you for sharing this Sophie. I have had to take a look at some things too. Im very happy with juddd but I do want yo get down to a range of 140 to 145 for maintanance instead of 144 to 147, which is where I seem to be stuck forever. I have been doing 1900 UDs and about 300 DDs. This week I'm gonna try to keep my UDs at about 1700 to 1800 and DDs at 500 and see what that does. I like your numbers. I think they are very doable especially if you font have a lot to lose. Once I get to where I want then I can go back up if I want to sometimes. You have been a great inspiration. I have loved seeing your results.

Thanks, guys!!

I am going to post all the maintenance dates and weights I've recorded just to show again how maintenance is going.... and since sweet Pami offered to turn these numbers into one of those super-cool charts you guys have been posting! Thanks again, Pami!!

In my maintenance, there have been stretches of doing my modified MUDDD/IF schedule and stretches of JUDDD. Sometimes on JUDDD, I'll throw in some MUDDD days if I needed. And sometimes during MUDDD, I'll throw in a regular JUDDD DD if I don't feel well. (I know, it sounds confusing, but my maintenance system just flows naturally to me )

And something else - when doing my modified MUDDD, I'll often have several days in a row where I do another IF style - "Fast 5-ish", instead of going on with the regular rotation.

Usually in maintenance when I do regular JUDDD, I have M-W-F be DDs and all the rest FDs.

I'll point out some more "things of interest" off to the side of some of the numbers (these don't need to go into the chart).

Just thought it might be helpful to repeat this...

Looking at my chart another way, if I had started in November and had been in Weight-Loss Mode (let's say my goal was 138#) but not respecting my UD numbers or not tracking them, then I might have had similar "results" as the above. And it would have made for a very slow and very frustrating weight loss (although I certainly would have enjoyed the food!) But I wouldn't have stuck to JUDDD for weight loss - I would not have had that kind of patience.

In that weight-loss frame of mind, I would have taken a look at November and said, "I actually ended this month a pound heavier than when I started!"

I might have taken a look at my progress at the end of December and said, "I weigh just as much as when I started! All I've done is bounce up and down!"

The only thing that would have remedied it, was to figure my calorie limits and stick to them until I got where I wanted to go.

So I just wanted to stress that for most of us, it's important in WLM to plan your calories, track your calories, respect your calories. It's easy to eat more than you think you are if you don't portion things out.

Yes, it can be a pain to closely figure calories, but you might not have to deal with it that much when you get into maintenance. You may be able to loosen up a lot in maintenance with FDs (no counting or calorie limits) or at least higher UDs. But for now, use the calorie work as a tool to get you where you want to be.

((BTW, I find it interesting that in just over 2 months into JUDDD/IF/MUDDD (I started Oct. 12, reached goal, and then went into maintenance a month later), it seemed to have turned up my metabolism/fat burning even more! ))

Thank you for this post, Sophie! I love the way you look at things! I needed to see it today. I am continuing with this because I really like it - just had a bad week and was really discouraged. Not with JUDDD, just with myself. It's funny that even if my weight bounces up after a DD, I still have faith in JUDDD. I just get upset with me for going over my calorie limits or eating too many cookies.
