If JUDDD isn't "working" for you...

I've come across a few threads this morning with people reporting no/very slow losses, and I just wanted to mention this...

I've been re-attempting Jack Kruse's "Leptin Rx" and he mentions that although he highly recommends IF (Intermittent Fasting) for many people, he does not recommend it for people who are leptin resistant. And JUDDD is a type of IF.

His theories may not work for everybody.
I've come across some other Paleo bloggers who ridicule him,
and he himself can be rather snarky in the comment sections.
But his approach is to heal the adrenal system, the hormones, the metabolism, etc...and I think that's a wise approach.

MY LEPTIN PRESCRIPTION - Jack Kruse

Perhaps there is something "broken" in those who find JUDDD to be ineffective (IMO, it's not just ineffective if they aren't losing weight on it, but if they find every DD to be a misery), and perhaps they need to fix that before JUDDD will work.

I wish you all the best of luck, and for your frustration!

omg, Jenny, I was just thinking about making a post to this topic as well!

I am feeling and thinking a lot about those who are not finding any loss or going up and down the same few pounds constantly for weeks/months with no real loss - they are doing the plan right, and yet it's not working. And some of them experienced the same thing on just LC and other woe's. I keep wondering what is going on in their bodies & how can we try to help them.

I was hoping that everyone dealing with this could post and talk about it.

Has anyone who dealt with this on JUDDD found a way to break through it and start losing, even a "slow" but steady loss?

And yes, definitely look into the Leptin Rx on the site Jenny was talking about. I don't know a lot about it, but who knows if it may be the key for some? I myself am doing 35 g. protein within 1/2 hour of waking up and though I'm not leptin resistant now, it seems to be helping me sleep earlier like I'd hoped for. I'll keep trying it.

Anyway... talk it out, if you will. Don't hold back, tell us what's been going on in your (so far) unsuccessful WL efforts with JUDDD. This may be just the thing some are needing.

Thank you Jenny. I am looking into starting this plan tomorrow starting with the BAB.
I am not really sure what eating "Paleo" means though. Off to google....

Honestly I haven't gone Paleo.
I am doing some of the principles--the Big Breakfast, going 5+ hours between meals, exercising in the evenings (kettlebells & walking on my elliptical, not heavy cardio), and trying to go to bed earlier.

The first week or so, my weight went up a couple pounds and stayed very steady--275.0. 275.2, 275.4. The last 3 days I have started seeing 273s.

Remember this is a healing protocol, not a quick weight loss fix.
But if it works, then the weight will come off and stay off,
and you should feel many other benefits.

There's a thread or two in the Main Lobby.
Leptin reset?
I suggest going straight to page 6 & reading post #178 by "beachguy"
for a great summary and progress report from someone who's been following it for a while.

Also, Sophie & I started talking about it in this thread:
The "breakfast for better sleep" experiment

Well, I def have adrenal issues. Been seeing a naturopath since August and was diagnosed with basically NO adrenal function at that time. That's when I went no grain/sugar/starch. I've been taking supplements and doing some other protocols as well (parasite cleanse, colon cleanse, liver detox). I have an appt Wed to compare results of blood work and adrenal function from then to now. My thyroid tested good back then.

But I'll look into the lr info. Thanks for posting. I am going to sleep ok, but waking at 4:30-5 am and not being able to go back to sleep. And my blood sugar is all over the place.

I def need to go to NO sugar and very minimal (maybe no) grains again.

Have you had adrenal testing done. You sound like me with the sleep issues.
I had adrenal testing done recently and my cortisol levels are low all day and then are too high at bedtime which makes for restless sleep. I toss and turn and sleep in short spurts, often waking up feeling anxious.About the time my alarm goes off I am sleeping well. On the weekends I still toss and turn but end up sleeping late without the alarm to wake me.
I tried the BAB a while ago and did well but I think I made the mistake of using protein shakes and keeping my carbs way too low at about 15 or so daily.
I have been asking Beachguy questions in his journal he is doing very well with the leptin rx and has given me a lot of helpful advice. I plan to start officially tomorrow.

I know right away I would crash and burn on this diet. There are too many restrictions and requirements to follow and I think I'd end up being miserable. =\ Good luck to those that try it.

The minimum I get from it is simply...

1) Eat a high protein b'fast (50 g. protein if you're overweight) within 30 minutes of rising.

And

2) Eat low carb.

Then see where that takes you after a number of weeks and go from there...

Just in a quick perusal, I don't think I'm leptin resistant. I'll have the results of my new cortisol test in a few days, but my first one showed normal am cortisol, that dropped to nearly zero by the noon collection, and stayed there the remainder of the day. Dr. K says you'll have high pm cortisol.

Switching to paleo completely eliminated my carb/sugar cravings. No idea why I'm playing around with them now, other than because I wanted to see if I could. It also nicely controlled my hunger, although I do still snack. Might try to get rid of that.

Can't see how to do a big breakfast on a DD. I typed in a test breakfast in ****** and at 41 gms protein, I was already at 634 cals. But then he says IF shouldn't be done if you are lr, so maybe JUDDD wouldn't work with this anyway.

With the mention of adrenal issues, just thought I'd mention an easy, cheap and natural way of supporting the adrenals- drink nettle leaf tea. It is full of iron, vitamins and minerals as well as being a treatment for adrenal burnout.

It's very interesting and makes a lot of sense to me but I couldn't go back to low carb. I'd get stuck in my binge cycle and go around in circles. I am going to cut back on the bad carbs though and have protein in every meal I eat. JUDDD is working for me slowly so I'll keep going with it!

So glad you're happy, Majella!

I can't remember - was JUDDD not working for you at first? What tweaks or changes did you make if any that got the WL going?
