Maintenance on JUDDD?

Hi-
I'm curious what calorie counts for UD and DD folks are using who are maintaining. I see Beeb is doing 700/750 for DD and FD for her UD. Others? Thanks!

Hi Tiva,

I'm between 500 - 850 DDs (usually toward the higher #) and have FDs.

Adding: I'm about your same height and weight. I get 3 DD per week.

I usually weigh between 111 and 113. When I average my calories from January 1 - February 1, I average a little under 1400. My DDs are usually 500 - 700 and my UDs are 1500 -over 2000. I don't stick to exact numbers and do an average of only 3 DDs per week. It has been really easy to maintain with JUDDD!

Thanks! Do you know what you typically consume on your FDs, Sophiethecat? I'm still puzzling over why the average for maintenance seems to be lower than expected. Calculators typically say that I should be able to eat 1700 calories average and maintain (even if I didn't exercise so much), but if I averaged that on JUDDD, mu UD calories would have to be 2700 if my DD were 700. It's rare that I can eat over 1800 calories in a day.

We do sort of jump to the conclusion that the JUDDD Calorie Calculator Up Day number, which he calls our *Normal* number is, in fact, our daily maintenance level calorie number. We tend to label it that because most other calorie calculators label their numbers that.

But the number JUDDD give us to work with is normally somewhat higher than the *maintenance* calorie number given us on other calculators.

I wonder if the JUDDD calculator doesn't actually have that normal number for our UDs a little on the high side of what our true maintenance calories really are. And so.. balanced out with 60% of that calorie figure number for DDs, it does, in fact, bring us up to about our expected daily calorie average for maintenance.

But it is given to us in a way that we can continue to cycle our calories, at least somewhat, to keep the health benefits of this style of eating continuing.

So if we truly and truthfully follow our numbers as they are provided for us, we overeat our average a little on UDs and undereat our average a little on DDs, but average out at our maintenance number overall. And we are still able to benefit from the up/down cycling that way, even in maintenance.

Hi Tiva!

I am the almost same height as you, and have been maintaining around 133 for 3 months.
I do DD/FD...DD's never going over 600, as my FD's can get very "free!". I do the occasion MD of about 1200, if needed, usually about twice a month, and every so often I will do an 1800-2000 UD, if I feel my FD's have been climbing a bit too high.

hugs

I need to get into maintenance but actually don't think I will be able to eat many more calories than I do now. I lose slow and am kind of at a stall. I was hoping to be able to eat more on DD's.

Would it make sense to try upping my DD calories and if I see a gaining trend to just drop back down and then my weight should drop back down also. Right? I don't want to have any permanent gain.

I want to keep my DD's low and I think 700 max might be good. Still working on it.
Also rethinking UD's.

These responses are really helpful.

For my height & weight, and entering moderate activity levels, most calculators say I should be able to eat 1900 to 2280 calories per day to maintain. This is well above what JUDDD calculator suggests for me (JUDDD says 1812 (for light exercise) to 2000 (moderate exercise). The other calculators assume I'll eat to this calorie level every day, while JUDDD assumes I'll eat this much every other day and then eat 55% to 65% of those calories on DDs. So the averages with JUDDD end up about 20% lower.

Some estimates from other website of my daily maintenance calories:
http://www.caloriecontrol.org/health...culator-women: 1900
American Cancer Society :: Information and Resources for Cancer: Breast, Colon, Prostate, Lung and Other Forms 2270 !!
USDA's http://www.bcm.edu/: 2282 !
Calories Per Day Calculator 1942

It doesn't really matter, I know--each person is unique, and most Americans are probably eating far above those levels anyway. And I don't think the calories in-calories out model is well supported by data anyway, so estimates of maintenance calories are inevitably problematic. I'm just puzzled by Dr. Johnson's reasoning.

I expect I'll try 700 to 800 calories on DDs 3 times a week, and low carb FDs on the other days, (watching the nut and cheese quantities, however--mindless eating of nuts and cheese is my downfall).

I asked a similar question a couple weeks ago :)

I am still doing 500-600 on DD and Free Days (FD) on UD's

I missed this somehow... :stars:

I don't usually track on FDs but with estimates it's 1800 - 2200.
