Low Calorie Tortillas!

I think at one point I had seen a recipe for tortillas that were low calorie... maybe made with egg white and physillium?? Would anyone be able to help me find them??

Psyllium is a fiber, usually sold as a laxative. Konsyl is one popular brand you can find in most stores, or get it a lot cheaper at netrition :)

I use the Trader Joe's psyllium when i make these--

I use the konsyl and got it at Wal-Mart. These really do make tortillas for a DD. I spread with a laughing cow cheese, add some spinach, mushrooms, shrimp, and let cook just a bit. Top with salsa. Really yummy for about 150 calories.

OK, could someone give me a taste analises of these before I waste product and find I really don't like them?

Are the gritty? I find things made with psyllium tend to be gritty to me. Or eggy? Since egg whites/beaters are the only other ingredient here I am thinking they would be eggy tasting. Are they a good sub for tortillas or just a so-so sub? If just so-so I'll save my tortilla eating for UDs and forgo this recipe.

Thanks for the info!!

I'd try 'em Linda--maybe it is my psyllium, but they aren't gritty. Make sure to let the batter sit enough to thicken and then dilute as necessary to fry. If you dilute it enough, and add good flavours (onion powder, herbs) they aren't too eggy either. And I never count the calories from Psyllium (all fiber really) so I only count the eggwhites. Usually around 15 cals per tortilla, so with a wedge of laughing cow, you can have a filling snack for 50 calories. A tortilla, LCC and a cup of tea will keep me full for a long time. Worth a try, and then if you don't like you will know--

I've made them a few times, don't forget to add salt! Like any 'bread' product, it needs salt or it will taste flat :)
