A brand that I find very good (if you like a pre-mixed shake) is Premier Nutrition. They have 160 cals, 30g of protein, 3g fat, 5 g carb, 3 g fiber, and 1 g sugar. I find them at Costco and they are reasonably priced. Very good for "on the go."

I also use either "Designer Whey" brand (natural) or Swanson's Protein Powder (Vitamins and Supplements, Natural Health Products, Organic Foods - Swanson Health Products). They are low fat, low carb, and low sugar. 19 -20g of protein and 90-100 cals. The Designer Whey is very smooth when blended, but the Swanson's is very good too and less cals, fat, carbs (not by much).

Smoothie recipe:
1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
1 scoop protein powder
2 tbsp liquid sweetener (I like torani sugar free french vanilla)
4-6 frozen strawberries
1/4 cup frozen raspberries
handful baby spinach leaves

splash of OJ or POM juice if you're feeling crazy. Maybe even half a banana if you're really feeling crazy!

Protein shake:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 scoop protein powder
2 tbsp sweetener (I like raspberry sugar free torani) tastes like cereal milk to me!

Edited to add: I'm not affiliated with Swanson's, but I do LOVE them. I've been a customer for years and they have great products at reasonable prices and EXCELLENT customer service.

I got the chocolate shakes and they were pretty good! A little watered down tasting compared to the Low Carb Slim Fast, but you can't beat the protein to calorie ratio on the Pure Protein shakes.

I haven't tried the premixed shakes, but I do have the Pure Protein Vanilla Cream whey powder (purchased at Walmart) and I like the flavor of that pretty well. I have mixed it into smoothies using coffee ice cubes - yum!

Thanks for the review. I will have to note these. My daughter has hypoglycemia and is picky about what she will eat protein-wise in the a.m. THis owuld be perfect. She has tired of the atkins bars, string cheese and I am not sure she will ever eat EGGS again! THANKS!
