Once you hit goal...
 
I know many will eat this way for a LONG time to come. I am eating Low Carb 20-30 carbs per day, and am also trying JUDDD as well -as a way to jumpstart my metabolism.

Once my goal is reached can I go back to just eating Low Carb to maintain?

I'm not sure exactly sure what I will do once I reach my goal- but wanted to know what my options were to maintain my weight.

Any thoughts...:dunno:

I think for maintenance, the most important thing is to do what YOU can sustain long-term. If you love LC, do that. If you love JUDDD, do that. Or you can do any combination of the two, or neither at all.

waiting to hear from the maintainers - but don't see why you can't 'Althernate Day' diet forever to an extent!

I've been experimenting with this myself. I came to JUDDD solely because I need to keep my total calories low in order to lose (age and medical issues).

I had no increase in metabolism after 3 years of JUDDD (nor does Dr. J make any claims for that), and I can't really eat much more in maintenance than I did while losing. That seems to be a basic principle regardless of the plan one follows.

So I plan to continue with JUDDD, raising my DD calorie level as Dr. J advises. It seems to be working for me. I eat very low carb as well, but that's because I am extremely carb sensitive, and that WOE works best for me.

You are exactly right in thinking long and hard about maintenance. It is rarely achieved and the longest part of successful weight management. The entire time, 9 months of my losing, I thought about this topic. I found foods I enjoyed, exercises I liked, and read/watched videos as if my life depended on it. Leo is a wise poster. I still actively engage this topic.

I love my trim life so very much. Today I rode horses with DD, weekly lessons we have done for a couple of years. I could not possibly have done this Oct 2009. The benefit of being thin out weighs the cost of maintaining it.

I suppose if i were to raise my DD calories slowly and see what happens it wouldn't hurt. I just can't imagine constantly thinking about counting calories and carbs. I like LC and plan to stick with that. Counting both forever might not bother me, but I do think it will wear out my BF after time, especially after goal weight.

I guess I just hope that JUDDD will work for me, and that I can continue with JUST low carb when done. Maybe refresh with JUDDD once a year for a month or something??

Does this sound stupid?

It sounds brilliant! Every one of us has to experiment to find not only what works for us, but what we can sustain. If you maintain well with LC only, go for it! If you need to tweak now and again, doing JUDDD for a period of time certainly can't hurt.

Hi Truffles :) :welcome:

Try JUDDD and see what you think. Then when you've lost the weight you want, re-evaluate and see what you want to do. JUDDD is very flexible. You can do it low carb or with any woe you want. If you don't want to do JUDDD anymore, you don't have to. Some of us just mix things up as we go along as we see fit.

In maintenance, I do a mix of JUDDD, MUDDD, and IF where I often skip b'fast. I do lowER to moderate carb most of the time, but it just depends, because we all have our idea of what moderate is.

I don't think I'll want to alternate UD/DD forever, personally, but I think I would do quite well with 2 full-day fasts a week, a la Eat Stop Eat! Long way to go, for me, but I think it's good to think about it, and there's nothing wrong with the maintenance plan being different from the loss plan if you are open to finding what works for you and you want to stick with!

Thanks for the input everyone! I lost so well with Low Carb last time and maintained really well for 3 years until I dated some loser who was annoyed by my diet. I should have dropped him sooner!

Fast forward 5 years and it is much harder to lose on Low Carb now- but I feel a LOT better! Those last few pounds just DON'T want to come off!! I'm hoping to hit my vanity goal of 130lbs by Feb 19th... or maybe 132 would be more realistic! I'm eating 500 down days and 1700 up days... think it can be done??

Maintenance has been easy to do for me with JUDDD. I do about 3 DDs per week and have been raising my calorie levels to see what I can get away with.

I was just thinking... last time I was in maintenance I didn't have ANY problems maintaining! SOOOO much easier than losing for me! I knew my limits and didn't have to focus on food anymore. I know what I can eat and what I can't. It's like the pressure was OFF!

If I could maintain just eating low carb, that would be my choice. I have to keep my calories rather low, and that's why I'm continuing with JUDDD right now, but I would love to be able to simply eat at the same low level daily, and that is a long-term goal.

Right now, I'm continuing the 'cycle' only because it's less frustrating for me, given the low calorie level required to maintain my current weight--and maintaining is my priority.
