Slow losers?

I think I may have to adjust my numbers. Originally, I was around a blissful 2000 calories for UD and then below 500 for DD.

I have been on this WOE for 3 weeks and have only dropped about 3-5 pounds depending on the day. My DD are ALWAYS below 500 (usually around 450) and my UD have been pretty consistently around 2000-2200. Perhaps that's too high. Although I enjoy every single calorie!!!!

I calculated again with a complete sedentary life and now have 1772 for UD and 354 for DD. Does this sound about right?

I am 5'6 and 43. I think I calculated today at 164 pounds instead of the original 168 where I started.

Would love to hear any thoughts. BTW, I LOVE this eating plan and would have usually quit by now on other plans.

Hi Monica Glad you're still with us and that you checked in and didn't just give up.

I can tell you that I am the same height as you, nearly the same starting weight, and maintenance weight, and that I lost well on 1700-1800 calorie UDs. If I went over that very much, I maintained or gained. Those calorie numbers seemed to be the "sweet spot" for our height, and I have heard from other JUDDDsters around this height that it also worked well for them.

Don't lose heart at the lowered number of calories though. After about 4 - 6 weeks on JUDDD, I felt myself wanting more of the less-refined foods that are high in calories and more of the whole foods again. I still indulge a lot, just nowhere near the level I was doing when I first started JUDDD. My appetite seems to have regulated for the most part in that area.

Another thing to keep in mind for the future is that you may not always have to limit yourself on UD calories. For example, after I reached maintenance, I was able to start eating FDs (free days) where I didn't need to count calories. At first I watched the scale in case I ever went over my maintenance limit, but it didn't happen. So... Whether or not you one day start doing FDs, at least there may come a point where you metabolism is healed enough that you can raise your UD calories more generously again.

For now though, on WLM, try to stick those calorie limits.

I have a feeling the weight will start melting off you when you do that.

I shake things up all the time with my version of Pirate Jenny's MUDDD, my "Fast 5" & other IF. ...low-moderate fat....and eating "healthy" foods 75+% of the time which lets me have real life and indulgences too I've reached my goals, improved my health & appearance, and enjoy my lifetime woe!

I thought I remember figuring your calories previously, a few days ago, and your UD calorie number came up to be just under 1800 calories. So if you're doing 2000 and 2200, it won't be working quite so well. Doesn't seem like all that much, but over the course of two weeks, that can be close to a pound not lost right there, just based on the Calories In-Calories Out rule of thumb.

Maybe that was somebody else. Or maybe in a thread that you didn't get back into, to read the suggestions left there for you.

Additionally, if you are regaining water weight during the first two weeks or so, that can overcome the pounds of fat lost, and the scale will not be able to tell you that you have lost fat while you've regained water weight, so don't worry.

Did you measure before you started JUDDD? Despite water regain happening for many if and when they eat a bit higher carb level now, those who measure usually report that although they aren't losing scale weight right at first, their measurements show that they are losing inches.

If you will lower your UD calories to about 1775-1800 and hold to your DDs of 500 calories or less, I'll bet you will see weight loss happening very shortly, and at a nice rate of loss.

Thank you! I have been trying to hop on the boards to read, but work has been keeping me very busy with long days.

Your post is VERY helpful and I will count more diligently and stay around that 1700 mark. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Again, I feel like I have been freed from my eating obsessions and I love this plan. It's nice to maintain while "spoiling" myself every other day, but I would prefer to lose!

Thank you, Pat! I may have missed replies as work has kept me very crazy. I readjusted my counts a few times because I had hoped to get back on my exercise plan. Unfortunately working almost 11 hour days has negated that plan. Ah well, in the future, perhaps!

Thanks always, for your great advice. I love these boards and how active they are. You all keep me inspired.

And you can still, if you need them, hit 500 cals on your DD

Vicky, even though the counter said 354? I am afraid to test it out to see if it works. I would much prefer to eat 500! Ha, ha!

on the website it suggests 500 for the first 2 weeks.

I now try to stay within my 20% (but I have been having some high UD!) or less - but if I need it I will go up to the 500.

I suppose you have to see what works for you!
