No calorie drinks/sugar free gum/etc. on DDs?

What are your guys' opinions on things like diet soda and gum for DDs? I'm already on a 2+ can a day habit with diet pop, and chew gum occasionally. I was just curious what some JUDDDers think about these kinds of things.

JUDDD is not a WOE that says you need to eat this or that. It is a calorie restriction diet every other day and the way you want or don't want to get those calories is entirely up to you.

Oh, I know Linda -- I guess I was just curious as to what other people do or think about it, or what they have or haven't had success with! Trust me - I'm not restricting anything. I had peanut butter cookies to use up some calories on my UD today!

Hey girl!! I didn't know you do JUDDD!

Good to know, good to know. I think DDs will be a lot easier for me to get through, at least at first, with my beloved fountain diet pepsis!

I'm really new to JUDDD but not to the site and through many different diets and successful weight loss I have had a diet pop permanently attached to my hand and I think I'm addicted to gum!

I'd just like to add one caveat--be aware of the 'effect' these artificial sweeteners may have. When I first began JUDDD, I noticed on DDs that artificial sweeteners actually stimulated my appetite. That's something I hadn't noticed when I was eating more calories.

I later found out that there is research indicating this happens to some people, but I never noticed it when I was eating more. Only when I was doing DDs did it become apparent.

Eliminating all artificial sweeteners really helped me. But, again, this was just my reaction, but research shows that I'm not unique.

I love my sf gum! I counted it at the beginning, but not in maintainance. I also enjoy a diet soda when I want, if it's calorie free, bring it on!
Another big help to me is sf hard candy, 6-12 cals a piece, for me it really dulls any hunger pangs. ( I do count these cals!)

I also noticed what Leo did on DD's. For me, i noticed that aspartame seemed to make me hungry. If i stick with diet drinks with splenda im ok. So on DD's i drink like shasta and i use MIO water in my bottled water. I have noticed that a good strong carbonated drink can really be an appetite suppressant, which can really be nice too. Shasta diet strawberry and shasta diet cream soda are super super yummy. I think it may be the carbonation makes the tummy feel full and bloated for a little bit.
I chew sugar free gum all day long and have never counted the calories for it. I sometimes chew 5 pieces in one day. So chew that gum and drink that diet soda. You will see how it effects you and then can go from there.

I am more than happy to drink diet coke all day long, every day! if it makes me hungry - I have another one!!!

I too have SF gum and SF candies - I count cals for the candies on DD but not on UD - unless I have a lot (which isn't recommended!! tummywise)

I am so loving JUDDDD - that it doesn't dictate what to eat. Yes Dr J Does say that there foods you should be eating more often, because they will help to promote good health and also vice versa some things should be eaten less often as they may compromise your health over time. And we all know what is good and what isn't. Still I will eat fries occasionally!!!

I love my Diet Coke. I'm thankful that the aspartame does not seem to affect me as it does others, it does not seem to make me hungrier. On my down days I don't usually eat until supper time but by that point I've had about 2 diet cokes, so they don't make it any harder for ME to fast anyways. I do gum too but I tend to spit it out quickly, I have to watch it because I can mindlessly chew through a whole package of juicy fruit, and while it's sugar free I think it's still like 5 calories a piece.

I drink a lot of coffee and tea, but unsweetened or with just a little stevia.
I also prefer to drink a lot of water on DD's. Maybe just me but it adds to the "cleansing" effect mentality

I love Vitamin Water. I drink the kind that has XXX on it for UD's and Zero on it for DD's. They taste like sweetened fruit drinks to me, sweetened with stevia and erythritol.

They make a SF Juicy Fruit?? I can honestly say I haven't had JF since at least 2003. I need to see if I can find some! I chew Trident or Extra when I do chew gum.

I am an iced tea drinker during the course of my days, or maybe hot tea, and lots of coffee, so can't offer much, other than to do your own thing, and then see if it seems to be fine for you or not.

I don't worry about chewing gum, and just enjoy it whenever the urge hits.

I drink Diet Cherry Coke and Crystal Lite (and on UDs, too.) I'm not really a gum chewer but if I were, I wouldn't think anything of chewing it.

I have SF gum, SF Baskin Robbins hard candies, diet swiss miss, diet coke, diet dr. pepper, diet root beer, and crystal light. I don't have a lot of these things but they really help when I have a sweet tooth on a DD! I especially like the diet root beer because it's sweet, creamy, and has no caffeine which means it's good for a sweet craving in the evening.

I only add the calories for the candies and the diet swiss miss.

I have no desire to give these up!

Coffee allows me to get through the morning and early afternoon of my DDs. Without its appetite suppression, I really struggle.

I also drink tea, and sometimes sf soda. Not so much with the gum, but I do have it on hand for occasional use.

Yes they do, not sure if they do in the stick format but I get it in the pellet format (with the white shell, like chiclets). They sell it in blister packs or in plastic shaker containers.
