Ha! Grits!

I'd never heard of them in my life. Iowa girl here, so corn-fed, but never grits up here.

Daddy took us on a vacation trip one summer, heading south, and we'd stayed overnight somewhere.. ordered breakfast at some little cafe the next morning, and they'd put a pile of.. *something* on my plate alongside the eggs and sausage, and it was flooded in a pool of yellow???

Daddy said we could tell when we were in *The South* when you automatically got grits on your breakfast plate. So that was grits, and lots of melted butter. Oh, My! It was good!

This made me think of it, and I wouldn't mind putting grits on my shopping list.

Glad to see I have some fellow com rads, lol. My kids eat grits every morning because they are just like their 6 foot 3 inch slim dad and can get away with it. That's what I like about JUDDD, I don't feel deprived of the foods I love. I don't have the guilt and still lose weight, it doesn't get any better than that.

Wine2 and pat, grits with butter is the best way to eat them.

We need a thread devoted to grits! First time I ever had them (and bear in mind that I'm from the UK, so I really was clueless about what the heck grits were) was when I visited a friend in Georgia. None of her friends could believe I'd never had grits before! Or the waitress, or the owner of the restaurant where we had breakfast....it was like the whole town was in shock

I'm from California and we don't have grits here, though I have seen them a time or two on menus. I've traveled quite a bit, and in the south as well, have tried them, and I really don't see what the fuss is about. I'm definitely not a grits lover. However, I also don't like most carby breakfast foods. I often have a burger or sandwich for breakfast and very rarely have cereal of any kind, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, etc.

Glad to see so many people have enjoyed grits, if you haven't tried them yet you are definitely missing out. UD here and had my share this a.m., can't wait til Thursday. I guess it might be bad that one of the highlights of my day is what I'll have for breakfast, but hey, it's now definitely one of my GUILTLESS pleasures.

Yup...I remember back when doing strict lowcarb looking up the carb count on grits and thinking I'd never be able to eat those again with that count! Now I'm not afraid of carbs! It's such a wonderful sense of freedom!

I have grits written on my grocery list. With only the two of us here, I don't have to go shop very often, but whenever I go to the grocery again, I'll be coming home with a box! (Or a bag?)
