mattsmama I am not exercising at this time-used to do Pilates; I am exhausted every day when I get home from work; last thing I want to do is work out. I know that's an excuse, but it's also a reason. A few months ago I tried the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, and within 2 minutes, I had strained my achilles heel and it took 2 months to heal!!

My UD allotment is 1710. To me that doesn't seem high, having come from low carb, but it is certainly doable. It's just that I feel like I am on a diet, and so many of you just don't feel that way. I'd love to get into that mind set.

I'm not losing with the DDs below 500-what would happen if they were higher?? I know I can bring the UDs lower. The high ones were due to social occasions where the wine, not the food, brought the total up.

This woe doesn't seem easy to me right now- I sure wish it did-, and I am NOT enjoying counting cals. Did it for many years...

shirl I sure hope so!

I will keep at it for another couple weeks-what do I have to "lose"...

I am so sorry that you are frustrated, atkinsgoddess. I can tell that you work hard and you are tired and just want results. We will all try to help you along to lift your spirits.

If you came from LC, as I did, you may be in a transitionary time where your body is refilling its much-depleted glycogenic stores. The water weight is normal and actually necessary for proper brain function and to prevent mild depression. Believe me, I am telling you this from personal experience.

There is no reason to feel light-headed on a DD. If you are, then you need to eat a little something. Make sure that your protein intake is adequate. Many here, including me, find that is pivotal in assuring success.

Do not worry about the exercise. I just suggested it for benefits other than weight loss. I do notice that it elevates my mood and makes me feel so much better. If that is something that your schedule cannot permit, then by all means, do not fret about it. You certainly do not need extra stress at this time. Just focus on what you can control.

Lastly, something that I know works for me....Sometimes I have to remind myself that it's all in how I perceive it. If I set out feeling deprived, well, that is going to fester and get worse and make anything I do miserable (whether it's DD or project at home, whatever). But, if I stay in tune with how I am feeling, I can nip my bad attitude right in the bud. Sometimes, I have to remind myself how lucky I really am, and simply to stop the negative "head talk" that will ultimately be self-defeating.

But I think it's going to start in for you very soon. Hang in there.

Just think of it this way: If we did NOT lose water weight when we first went on a low carb diet like Atkins, losing several pounds FAST in that first week and two weeks, and instead.. we experienced the weight loss of only body fat.. like happens from then on (often nothing much over an extended period) many would throw in the towel then too. But because of that initial water weight loss, we're all just thrilled, equating it with *losing weight*.. when truthfully, we may or may not have lost any fat. The loss of water weight can mislead us into thinking that we really are losing FAT, when we actually aren't much.

So on JUDDD, when we're actually usually losing fat from the very first day/first week, but we are often regaining water weight, we are being misled into thinking we're not losing any body fat at all. On the scale, it looks like we're not losing anything at all.

Atkinsgoddess I am doing this just over 3 weeks now and it's only now I am getting into and losing weight but I'm like you and I feel like I'm on a diet. I find if I don't count my calories I easily go over my limits. I never make the 500 DD no matter what I do! It's between 600 and 700. I don't exercise on purpose but I do a lot of walking and I try to put extra effort in when I am cleaning. I also won't eat after 8pm any day and I always skip breakfast, I find this makes it's easier for me. I hope things improve for you soon

thanks, all. I am not a pessimistic person, and don't want to bring you down.

sohappy I don't have any parties coming up, so I should do ok...

mattsmama my carbs are still pretty low compared to "normal" people. For example, today, an UD (looking forward to that ribeye!) my calculated carbs are around 46. And I am a big protein eater, so no problem there. On DDs, I usually have an egg, chix breast, or fish, and/or some cheese. Oh-and I climb 3 flights of stairs twice a day at work-that's exercise!

And I know exactly what you mean about how you perceive it. That's what drew me to the woe to begin with, and I still like the idea of "I can have it tomorrow"-even if I don't! I really think I am still figuring it out-what I want to eat, what my body needs, etc.

Majella I am also usually done eating by 7pm and eat breakfast as late as poss. on DDs.

I'm like you as well. I just wish I didn't have to diet, didn't have to watch what I ate or how much of it, and I could just eat however I wanted to, every day. Darn it!

But I know if I didn't do this, I'd still be obese and growing ever larger and LARGER as time went by. I'm just not the kind of person who has built-in control all the time, so I would definitely be overeating my own metabolic rate.. every day!

I don't like being on a diet plan, but I didn't like being that weight even more, so this is the lesser of two evils, as they say. And at least on this plan my Up Days are reasonable. Not as high a calorie number as I could eat, easily, but reasonable for any woman my age who wants to be a reasonable weight. And because of doing JUDDD for awhile now, I'm even able to eat a whole lot more calories than most women my age, because JUDDD has sped up my metabolism over how sluggish it used to be, so that's a blessing.

It's more than worth it to me.

I am VERY pleased with my results. After I started over with my head on straight I started getting the results that I wanted. Counting calories is starting to become second nature and I would rather count than be deprived of all of the things that I could not eat on LC. Weight loss is slower but that is fine with me.

It's amazing how losing just a few lbs. helps me feel.
I'm sure I keep water on board in my fat pockets, from getting off lc. But it's finally leaving on JUddd. FOR GOOD.

I have started weighing daily and will join the February thread. When you post UD or DD after your weight, is that the day you weigh, or the weight AFTER the UD or DD? I weigh first thing in the morning.

I'm sure this question's been asked and answered, but I didn't see it as I glanced through.

For me, the weight is the morning weight, and the UD/DD is what I am doing that day. So the weight reflects the previous day's eating.

I'm not going to make my goal this month but It's ok because I have learned a lot about myself and how to be with myself without eating to feel better. I also know I have found a way to eat for the rest of my life so I know my weight loss is slow but it is permanent

1/24/12 - DD - 135.4 (i walked and did weights yesterday)
1/25/12 - UD - 133.6 (walked yesterday)
1/26/12 - DD - 134.0 (walked and did weights yesterday. only a 0.4 gain after an UD is pretty cool, with a fair amount of carbs, to boot!)
