What "Don't" You Count?
I tend to not count the calories in spices or coffee. To me these calories are minimal because, as in spices, I use so little and coffee is 1 calorie, at best. I haven't had a problem losing or maintaining by not counting them.
I'm not saying anyone else should do it this way, just what I do! Is there any food items you DON'T count? ![]() |

Not really sure - so far - I think I count most things! Water, Diet Coke, Some really low Juice (Cranberry & Raspberry - the whole litre has 30 cals!! and I water it down with soda water!)
Shirataki noodles - if I buy the ones that say no cals - my current ones say they have 20 cals per 100gms!!!! |

I count coffee because dailyplate does lol.
I don't count oat fiber or glucomannan or shirataki noodles because they're 100% fiber and your body can't use the calories from them. |

It never even occurred to me to count spices, and I don't intend to start now! Maybe if a DD recipe called for a huge amount I'd reconsider but eh -- I've lost 75+ pounds without ever doing so.
I also don't count tea, coffee, Crystal Lite, oat fiber, gluc, shirataki noodles or miracle rice. I haven't been counting soy sauce either but I only use a tiny bit so I'm likely only "cheating" maybe five calories a day with it. |

I don't count spices either, or my daily diet soda intake. I've almost stopped counting on my DD's, but only because my limit is 435 and I've gotten to the point where I can usually get by without eating much. I'll have maybe two 35 cal cheese wedges during the day with my soda. I'll count if I'm feeling particularly hungry though!

I actually log every single thing into my meal counting app, not because I feel the need to see every single calorie counted, but because I want the record there of exactly what I ate every day so when I look back, I can see that I had X cups of coffee that day and ate X item with X spices/sauce or sides, etc, if that makes sense?
![]() I didn't use to log everything like that at the beginning, and I would go back and look at what I ate on any given day or week and think, wait, I'm pretty sure I had other stuff...or this looks a little different than what I'm sure I ate/drank, and I found I wanted to know exactly what I ate. It's not about the additional few calories because I log items with no calories too, like herbal tea, because I want to know that I had herbal tea on any given day. Or if I was still eating shirataki noodles, I'd log that as well even if it has no calories, because I want to know I had shirataki noodles that day, instead of just whatever else I threw in there with the noodles. This all helps me a lot with figuring out food sensitivities and intolerances as well because I can look back and identify triggers better. I've never logged food before this in my entire life, so seeing what I eat on a daily basis and being able to go back and see what I ate in the past is fascinating to me. sugar free gum, spices, shiratiki noodles (mine say 10 cls per 100 gramms..but as they are pure glucomannan, I am not sure why?) coffee, tea, diet pop, and any walden farms stuff.
