Gluc or Guar Gum?

I was just wondering why so many of you use Gluc over Guar gum. Is it the 20 calories in the tablespoon of Guar gum that makes you choose the glucomannan?

No idea - sorry!

I've heard the guar gum is really hard to work with, but I haven't actually used it, so I'm not sure if that's the reason or if it's because of the 20 calories. My guess would be it's the calories. That's a lot of calories if you're trying to stay under 500.

My understanding (and I may be wrong) was that guar gum effectively has no calories according to its nutritional information:

For me, glucomannan is easier to work with by itself although it benefits from a helping hand from xanthum gum or similar.

Gluc is much easier to work with -- calories aren't so much a consideration because it's just fiber.

Using either Xanthan Gum or Guar Gum ...I think is just a matter of what you get used to.

I have both....if compared, Guar Gum may thicken more than Xanthan...but with that said...it may be just the natural difference of product purchased...like one zucchini may be different than any other zucchini in the veggie bin.

Because Glucomannan is a little more pricey...I just stick to the Xanthan or the Guar. Not being a chemist...my guiding principle is cost..:)
